When a 10 year old Palestinian boy, Ahmad Moussa, was shot dead by Israeli occupation forces in the West Bank a few days ago, it stirred protests in Israel by one of its most prominent and oldest peace organizations, Gush Shalom. That protest took place before the residence of Israel’s Minister of Defense, Ehud Barak. Here is their later write up and photos of the protest.

HOW MANY CHILDREN MURDERED?

“Ehud Barak, Minister of Defense, How many children have you murdered until now?” This cry echoed Wednesday (July 30) under the windows of Barak’s apartment, high up in the Akirov Towers in Tel Aviv.

24 hours after a soldier had killed with live ammunition from a short distance the 10 year old boy Ahmad Moussa during a protest demonstration at Na’ilin village in the West Bank, more than 150 demonstrators came to the private apartment of the Minister of Defense to voice their protest under his windows.

The protesters – activists of Gush Shalom, Anarchists Against the Wall and others, arrived at the place after marching through the streets of Tel Aviv from Arlosoroff Station to Pinkas Street, headed by drummers.

The police send its forces well in advance, blocked the building and set up barricades. They did not rely on ordinary policemen and sent its elite commando force, which pushed and dragged the protesters from the first moment with utter rudeness.

“Hast thou robbed and also murdered?”

The demonstrators carried signs which said: “Goliath killed David”, “Soldier, refuse to take part in war crimes”, “Security cannot be built on the bodies of children”, “Hast thou robbed and also murdered?” (An allusion to the well-known Biblical admonition of the prophet Elijah to King Ahab: “Hast thou killed and also taken possession?” Many carried a simple poster with the picture of the boy and the inscription: “Ahmad Moussa, 1998-2008”

The next day, Haaretz published an ad: “Gush Shalom mourns the death of the 10 year old boy Ahmad Moussa who was murdered during the protest against the Separation Fence”.
