Bill Haas seems like a regular guy with no clue about how to run for office. Miraculously, it looks like he has won a five-way primary to be the Democratic nominee in Missouri’s Second District. This was a seat that might have been competitive but I don’t see it that way now. Someone should have told Mr. Haas that people don’t care about the sorry state of his love life or his three legged cat.
There were other primaries tonight. In Georgia, Jim Martin defeated Vernon Jones to become the Democratic nominee in the race against Senator Saxby Chambliss. This is excellent news and this race should now be competitive.
In Detroit, it looks highly possible that Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick will be ousted from Congress by upstart Mary Waters. Waters doesn’t even appear to have a website but she did have a devastating attack ad that hammered Kilpatrick over the criminal indictments of her son Kwame, the mayor of Motown.
The race is currently too close to call. It also looks like Kenny Hulsof has won the Republican nomination for governor of Missouri. He’ll be taking on Jay Nixon. There doesn’t appear to be any other surprises in tonight’s elections.
is a wacko perennial candidate. He was on the school board for a long time. He lost several times. He is well known, but is a nut.
He is running against Todd Akin, a hard right conservaturd who will be re-elected with 66 % of the vote.
I don’t know if he is a wacko but he is certainly unorthodox. I did not expect him to win this election.
MO-02 is heavily red, St. Charles, St. Ann, western suburbs of St Louis. It would be winable by a D, but it would take a Bush Dog type to win. Haas is considered a loose cannon. If he gets 40 % of the vote, I’ll be a little surprised. This is a Dem year. I don’t think that Akin is unbeatable, but it would take a pretty strong candidate.
Now, Sam Graves in MO-08 is much more vulnerable. His opponent is a Bush Dog type, currently mayor of KC, MO. I believe that Graves can lose.
Someone needs to clean up the guy’s website, for starters. He’s the nominee now and we need him to run a credible and professional race for Obama’s sake.
Representative Kilpatrick pulled out the victory, but I believe they’ll come after her again in 2010.
