It’s nice to read that Minority Leader John Boehner took time-out from golfing to say that “The American people are gonna hang [Nancy Pelosi]” if she doesn’t allow a vote on offshore oil drilling. What’s more amazing than Boehner’s provocative use of language is that he actually believes that. One of his colleagues from Tennessee just lost his seat in Congress last night (in a Republican primary) when his opponent ran ads against him for being in Big Oil’s hip pocket and advocating off-shore drilling.
None other than George W. Bush has refused to call Congress back into session, and yet Boehner thinks the American people are going to blame Nancy Pelosi? It’s hilarious how delusional the Republicans are. Here’s the view of another Tennessee Republican who managed to win his primary last night:
“For this to be such a rancid, anti-incumbent atmosphere, I enjoy very good support,” [Rep. Zach Wamp] said. “I do think I’m voting consistently the values and wishes of the people in the 3rd District. I have a 14-year record that I can be proud of.”
On the whole ‘rancid, anti-incumbent’ thing…Tennessee’s David David joins Maryland’s Wayne Gilchrest and Utah’s Chris Cannon as the third Republican incumbent to get voted out of office in the primaries. So far, only Al Wynn of Maryland has lost in a primary among Democrats.
At moments like this, I’d love to be the script writer for the Democratic response to Boehnhead.
How about, “Under Republican rule for the past eight years, we’ve developed tense and difficult relationships with Iraq, Iran, and Venezuela, three of the largest oil producing nations on the planet. And the price of gas is pushing $5 a gallon. Now you are you gonna vote for?”
But what about Libya. Don’t forget Libya.
Perhaps the Dems can cite Dubya’s amount of days spent on vacation.
Separately, there’s the Terri Schiavo debacle where people rushed back to DC for “emergency” session to pass a law solely for her.
“such a rancid, anti-incumbent atmosphere”? Something that is rancid is spoiled or stale, usually as a result of age.
It is the Republican incumbents (and some of the Democrats) who have turned “rancid”.
