It saddens me to post this. My condolences to the staff, family and friends.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A man barged into the Arkansas Democratic headquarters and opened fire Wednesday, fatally shooting the state party chairman before speeding off in his pickup. Police later shot and killed the suspect after a 30-mile chase.
Police said they don’t know the motive for the 51-year-old suspect, whose name has not been released.
I can only hope this murder had nothing to do with his status as the Democratic Party Chair in Arkansas.

When you are gay, black, liberal or democrat. A sorry state of the union. Too many examples to be specific. Who said the US is good for nothing?

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Police and neighbors are struggling to explain why a man described as a loner drove more than 30 miles to Arkansas’ Democratic Party headquarters and fatally shot its chairman hours after getting fired from his job.
A Target retail store in Conway had fired Timothy Dale Johnson, 50, of Searcy, before 8 a.m. because he had written graffiti on a wall. A manager had called police because of the graffiti but the wall had already been cleaned and Johnson had left by the time officers arrived. Before noon, Johnson was in Gwatney’s office in Little Rock with a handgun.
After the shooting, Johnson sped away in a truck, stopped seven blocks away at the Arkansas State Baptist Convention and pointed a gun at the building’s manager. When asked what was wrong, the gunman said “I lost my job,” according to Dan Jordan, the church group’s business manager.
Gov. Mike Beebe, a Democrat who served with Gwatney in the state Senate: “Arkansas has lost a great son, and I have lost a great friend. There is deep pain in Arkansas tonight because of the sheer number of people who knew, respected and loved Bill Gwatney.”

There’s a horrid pattern to these two shooting: Lose your job; kill a liberal. Someones widow/er ought to sue Rush, Sean and Glenn. It would be easy enough to prove a pattern of incitement.
Maybe I’m missing some vital connection between liberals and losing one’s job. I just don’t get it.

Right wing propaganda, just keep repeating the same lines. The Jews were responsible for the depression and Germany’s unemployment. Same goes for the foreigners, Mexicans, immigrants … when depressed just look for someone to blame. In one’s conclusion, never look in the mirror, it’s too painful.
Who were the most brutal and loyal followers of fascist Adolf Hitler? Right, the little guy whose job was at stake and got a chance to be somebody … wielding power over a fellow human being. Ultimate might is the judgement who is to die … execution or extermination. Didn’t George boast he never, not once, ordered a death sentence not to be executed?
A quotation, not mine:
“Interestingly and what often gets overlooked, is that Hitler stated that his management of the Jews came from what he learned about how the Americans treated its Indians. Not to mention the anti-Jewish Nuremberg Laws were almost verbatim adaptations of the American Jim Crowe Laws.”

Seems like a more direct line could be formed to the people who have been running the country for the past 8 years.

No one likes hate, and discrimination is a terrible thing, so hate crime bills appeal to people as the right thing to do to curb a wrong. But hate crime bills are seriously flawed. Hate crime bills attempt to punish people for the way they think. They divide people into classes, and some are to be treated differently and deemed more worthy of protection.

The hate mongering tyactics of the political right killed this man-in many ways the republican party killed this man. “Coulter, Limbaugh, Ingraham-take a bow!”
First, as this story from KTHV LIttle Rock shows, it wasn’t a case of the man’s flying into a rage after losing his job. He quit/was fired (depending on whose account it is) after scrawling graffiti on the halls of the Target where he worked, and signing his work (as well as adding to it) after a store meeting was called to ask the culprit to step forward. In short, he appears to have been at least somewhat unhinged before he quit/was fired — and if it was a firing, it seems to have been one he goaded his bosses into carrying out. (Signing the original graffiti and putting up more attacking management hardly seem to be the actions of someone who wants to keep his job.)
Second, he did, after all, follow up the shooting by going into the Arkansas Baptist Convention HQ and waving his gun around there, too. Not exactly a liberal establishment. True, he didn’t shoot anyone, but he did some pointing.
In short, I think we know far too little to chalk this up to right-wing hate at this point, and it certainly doesn’t seem to fit the “furious at being unemployed and blaming liberals for that” pattern.
