Just about as much as Buffalo Chip tossing.
What is an “elitist?”
I like your closing line, but then again I’m still in mourning over Carlin’s death.
Thanks – I’ve used it since I first signed up at BT. It is one of my most favorite quotes.
I,too, am sadden by Carlin’s passing. He could say things that would make me laugh, and that laugh opened my mind to be able to look at things differently. I think humor that points out our foibles and inconsistencies is a very powerful way to get us to think. The nasty, backhanded stuff just brings up defenses which hardens positions – imo.
Carlin also narrated Thomas Tank Engine on PBS…
only if you play it stoned.
and madame speaker pelosi is setting up another demoRAT cave in on the energy bill:
Pelosi receptive to considering more drilling:
madame is an apropos title, as she appears to be in charge of a house full of whores.
Ouch!
miniature golf, is that played with tiny balls?
Small clubs.
in another thread McCain was tiny balls
Go-Karting is elitist. Those are the same people who hang around at LeMans and Cannes and Lime Rock.

…to see a sport or activity that wasn’t plastered with ads! We teach children that it is great to sell their names and prowess to a corporation and that their bodies are billboards, for sale to the highest bidder.
What is the difference between selling one’s reputation or selling one’s body? Nothing. Both place the seller in the position of chattel… prostitute… comestible commodity.
Winners carry an ever-increasing sh!tload of stickers, proclaiming their corporate pricetag, as buyers stake claims to the pieces of what was once a human being.
What if a winner refused to sell his name? What if a contestant said no to the decals and commercial sponsorships? What if the t-shirt or go-cart or sailboat was logo free and proudly empty of ads? Would cameras avoid the kid who was first over the line or would it be easier to spot his jersey? Would media megacorps make darlings of the little prostitutes covered in ads or of the one who our-performed them all in the activity at hand?
If I was racing in such an event… I’d drive a metallic purple car with tiny stars and galaxies. (The speed of light is pretty darned fast, but hyperspace relays might be faster yet.) Art. Wowie-zowie in-your-face art and very recognizable.
And there would be no ads on it anywhere.
My vehicle, my skill, my name, my victory.
In many cases, sponsors help pay for the cost of doing business. In some sports, you couldn’t go without.
Ad revenue is important.
Separately, I finished RJ Hillhouse’s book Outsourced today. I’m familiar with the world of private military companies from multiple sources, but this work of fiction is a remarkably well-written tale about the depths to which military contracting can go and what happens when the lines between business and defense are erased.
I highly recommend it.

Wow. What arrogance. The fact that this woman backed Hillary was reason enough to vote against her!
Why no thread no the faith forum?
McCain soared, and Obama wandered. He really needs to “get his head in the game” and learn to espouse sound bytes and unequivocal positions. I disagree with McCain nearly entirely. But the people who don’t are surely going to see he turned in a great performance, and Obama was unfocused and rambling.
If BHO plays it, it will become elitist.
The only golf I play involves windmills and astroturf, usually at the Jersey Shore
And I went to Lime Rock last month.
Am I an elitist of just confused?
