Hi Cabin Girl! I’ve been away at CE classes for a couple of days. The cafe looks mighty quiet. I suppose the back-to-school rush is occupying the time of those with young ones still at home. Wednesday was move-in day at the IU dorms. I won’t be wandering by there for awhile. The poor kids will be in serious gridlock for a few days and its a long walk from the dorms to the local watering holes.
I noticed something magical on the way home from Indianapolis earlier this afternoon. Every gas station I passed for over 20 miles had repriced at exactly the same rate, 3.73, no exceptions. Wow! What a coincidence! </snark>
Hi ID! I thought I might have scared people off with my dumb picture up top…
I used to live in a college town…we would all breathe a sigh of relief every May, and depression would set in by Labor Day with the return of the students and associated traffic jams and bar overcrowding. 🙂
3.73 a gallon? We’re down to $3.43 here. Sadly, that seems like a bargain compared to $4.18 gas.
I’ll have to go get my laptop to do that…but I will. I signed up for a photography class starting the second week of September (which reminds me that I need to make sure they got my registration), so I’m looking forward to having something to post now.
The photo class sounds like a lot of fun. Assuming Olivia and I manage to keep this going, it’ll be great to have you post what you are doing for class.
I’m so glad the weekend is here after two trips to the city and the BCROD this week. We could really use a little rain here, but none is in sight for the foreseeable future.
Today is “errand” day, topped off with a wedding around 6:00. Hopefully, there’s a time slot for a nap somewhere in between!
It appears motels/hotels are starting to fill up around here because of Gustav. From the tracking predictions, I’m not too worried about it hitting us. We might get some wind and rain, but I think for us, it will be nothing more than a usual hard showers we get here.
Everything seems to be running normal here. We’ve got rels here for a week and George and I are just trying to stay out of the way.
It’s not really in the gulf yet, so we really don’t know, but I’m wondering what the next one, Hannah will do. Just excitement all the time down here. 🙂
Not much. Our expected company from yesterday changed plans, so I’m not entertaining this morning. I’m taking CBtE and his friends to an all-ages concert in the city tonight, and I need to get set for CBtY’s return to school on Tuesday (read: go grocery shopping).
Well, it’s beautiful here, but ‘vacation’ only starts today. Yesterday, we moved swimmer into her dorm. Driving up to Bar Harbor this morning and have checked out suggestions made by you and CG the other day. The forecast looks great – no Gustav effects here. Hope you don’t get too soaked. BTW, it starts to look really ugly for the Gulf coast.
Can I add Thurston’s Lobster Pound in Bass Harbor to my list of suggestions?
If you’re looking for something a little more chi-chi, George’s in downtown Bar Harbor is really nice. (Many moons ago, I stayed at the Ledgelawn Inn on my honeymoon, and we had dinner from Georges packed up -plates, candles, silver, glassware, and all- to eat on the balcony of our room.)
I have to confess that I’m fighting an irrational urge to pack up the car for a trip to Bar Harbor this morning…the thought of lobster is making me hungry. 🙂
Good morning Andi! I’ll be laboring at home today, with numerous nap breaks. Though now in the very distant past, I remember my years of union membership in the early 70’s quite fondly.
Good morning, Andi!
My sympathies; we made it a bit longer – will be back in NY only Wednesday night.
Cool and quiet Maine coast is recommended – a new personal best, 8.5 hrs of sleep!
We followed your and FM’s recommendations. Did the park loop with multiple stops underway, lunch break in NE Harbor, then Asticou Gardens before Mt. Cadillac summit. Thurston’s was closed :(, but we found another place (name escapes me now) in SW Harbor with excellent lobster.
It’s been great. Sunny days around 80, nights in the 50s.
Well, we need to get an early start, driving to Lenox, MA today, which is probably 7-8 hrs of driving (400 miles).
Sorry about the work thing. Did you at least have a relaxing weekend?
Today is “One down, one to go” day here…back to school for CBtY. He even has a cool new “bento” lunch box. And he was up at 5:07 to get ready…way too early for moi.
Well school is in full force here with the high schools and college. Every time I go downtown it’s like a traffic jam down there. There’s always five or six cars waiting for the red light to change. 🙂
Hi everyone! We returned to work today and delved further into the mysteries of our new software. Tonight’s commissioner meeting was the highlight of my day. Pretty pathetic, I must say! Ah well, only 2 years, 4 months until at least partial retirement.
Have a nice new cafe!

your first interpretation was the right one, cg.
here we just got 25,000 knuckleheads all at once. add the influx due to the dnc = it’s a zoo here.
time for the uni-hill neighbourhood re-education program to commence with all the new renters….so far so good.
“uni-hill neighbourhood re-education program”…I like it.
I don’t think I can quite imagine the carnival+riotgear atmosphere in the Denver area right now.
We are fast multipliers, but lets not add that to our tables.
Besides, I didn`t tell them to be that way. It could be the air.
Olivia and I decided to do a Friday photo diary like they do at EuroTrib. Come on over and contribute some photos! Oh yeah, and please ‘rec’ us too.
Good morning!
I’m looking forward to a weekly photo blog (and miss keres’ Thursday dog/critter blog).
Defenitely recommended.
Yeah, I really miss keres and the dog blogging. I hope she’ll come back at some point.
Got any holiday plans?
Yup!
Maine mini-vacation.
(Posted just before CG cleaned out the old cafe.)
That sounds really nice. You going to take us some nice pictures for the next Friday Foto Flogging? 🙂
Pictures will be taken – though no quality guarantee.
I was so excited about the Foto Flogging, I almost forgot to say good morning. Hi everyone!
Is the car completely loaded down with swimmer’s stuff, ask? 😉
Filled to capacity, swimmer barely fits in the back seat. We’re just north of Boston ancd only haved a couple of hours drive today.
I hope the move-in goes smoothly! How are you feeling about the big day? Or do men not get emotional about that? 😉
Hmm, I feel pretty good about ‘the big day’; tried to raise her to be independent and self-sufficient. Now, we’ll see if it worked…
I think it’s exciting, but I also know I’ll miss my guys when they go.
(I think you already have plenty of evidence that you did a good job, btw.)
Oh yeah, I’ll miss her – but try to focus on the adventure she has ahead. The mom had a tough time when we left yesterday.
Well don’t be so excited that you forget to post a picture … I’m sure that there are plenty from the beach or Europe you can post. 🙂
I’ll have to go get my laptop to do that…but I will. I signed up for a photography class starting the second week of September (which reminds me that I need to make sure they got my registration), so I’m looking forward to having something to post now.

I just checked, and it doesn’t start till the end of September…but I can certainly take pictures before then. 🙂
Yup … practice, practice, practice. Plus more fun for us.
I`ll help with whatever I can, whenever I can, anytime I can.
It`s in the can.
Yes We Can
A lazy hazy but probably not too crazy day of summer.

Good morning Andi! I suppose the campers have all left the lake in peace for this season?
Looking at that picture, I can almost hear the stillness.
How are you this morning? We’re enjoying our first rain in an extremely long time. Things were getting so brown!
I love evening weddings…you have the whole day for other things before the party. 🙂
I bet you can squeeze in a power nap in the afternoon. Speaking of napping, where’s FamilyMan?
Yeah – I miss having a fellow geezer to hang out with!
Speaking of napping, where’s FamilyMan?
I was napping. 🙂
Good man! Thanks for the support;)
Good morning everyone!

Hope everyone is doing fine.
That sure was one long nap you took — seems to have lasted a couple of weeks. 😉
Morning Andi.
It was just training for when winter gets here. I think this winter I’ll try for hibernation. 🙂
Winter? What winter? Oh, you mean those four days when it gets into the 40s.
Yep you have to use what you have. But you forget we did get snow down here last year. I’m hoping for enough to build an igloo this year.
And George can pee on it and melt it.
Hey if I build an igloo, I get first chance to , er, pee on it. You’ve got to be able to sign your work. 🙂
Plus when George pees his cursive really isn’t that good. 😛
Well that ought to give the neighbors something to talk about other than your failure to get your place into Lawn Beautiful.
Well I never did worry too much about what the neighbors thought. But it would be nice to get them into a little uproar. 🙂
Hi FM! Glad the storm is likely to miss you.
Hi CG and thanks.
It’s not really in the gulf yet, so we really don’t know, but I’m wondering what the next one, Hannah will do. Just excitement all the time down here. 🙂
What’s up at the cabin for the holiday weekend?
Not much. Our expected company from yesterday changed plans, so I’m not entertaining this morning. I’m taking CBtE and his friends to an all-ages concert in the city tonight, and I need to get set for CBtY’s return to school on Tuesday (read: go grocery shopping).
Good morning, FM and Andi!
Need more sleep.
I’m with ya on that. I’ve tried to convince my body that this is a long weekend but it effing doesn’t care.
Morning Ask.
How’s Maine?

Is it chilly up there this morning?
It’s just under 60 now, we’ll get to low 80s this sunny day.
Will definitely check out the Thurston’s Lobster Pound; curly has been dreaming of lobster for weeks now.
I have to confess that I’m fighting an irrational urge to pack up the car for a trip to Bar Harbor this morning…the thought of lobster is making me hungry. 🙂
Aiai, that’s a looong drive; the lobsters there must be fantastic! Well, time for us to go down for breakfast.
Good morning all! Had a deliciously long sleep for a change. Now off to pick up my mom for lunch and a short visit.
Well George wants to go out, so I’ll see ya’ll later.
Maybe I can get him to practice his cursive some. 🙂
Everyone have a good day.
Anyone here getting ready for the Booman Fantasy Football draft? I’ve never done a live daft – hope I don’t suck at it 😉
We’re getting our list together…we printed out a hard copy of our draft order so we can cross off the players as they go.
This is the first year we’ve had the live draft, so we’re all going to be learning as we go along this morning. I think it’ll be fun though. 🙂
Nice freudian slip I made there: daft for draft LOL Guess that answers the question of how I’ll do!
I need to get a list together, too. I’ve got some pre-draft rankings, but thats about it. Should be fun, though – you’re right 🙂
to everyone who isn’t having to.

are never long enough.
Back to work … blecch.
Good morning, Andi!
My sympathies; we made it a bit longer – will be back in NY only Wednesday night.

I am so envious! sigh.
What did you do yesterday?

Glad to her ya’ll are having such a good time.
Sounds like a perfect day to me. How’s the weather?
It’s been great. Sunny days around 80, nights in the 50s.
Well, we need to get an early start, driving to Lenox, MA today, which is probably 7-8 hrs of driving (400 miles).
Morning Andi
Yep these long weekends are just too short. Then again when you retire……..:)
So far we’ve only gotten some wind from Gustav. No rain or anything else. The outer bands stopped about 30 miles south of us.
I’m jealous of all your sleep. I was wide-awake at 4:30 a.m. More blecch.
Glad you’re enjoying Maine … and having a good night’s sleep.
Sorry about the work thing. Did you at least have a relaxing weekend?

Morning CG
It sounds like the house will be quiet pretty soon in the mornings.
Yep…we’re going to be doing the happy dance on Monday at 8:30. 🙂
Well school is in full force here with the high schools and college. Every time I go downtown it’s like a traffic jam down there. There’s always five or six cars waiting for the red light to change. 🙂
Always nice when the kids decide they’re ready to go back to school. When does CBtE go back?
Did you get any rain from the hurricane, FM?
Nope the rain bypassed us. Just a little wind. Although the local weather says we will be getting some rain from it, but when it starts stalling out.
I’d like to get some rain. It’s been 5 weeks. It’s always a little worrisome living in a very, very dry woods.
I don’t blame you about living in dry woods. That worried me during drought with all the pine trees around here.
As soon as I can, I’ll send up a little rain to ya.
I’ll be glad to have it (I’ll just wipe out my memories of the June flood).
Dogs are telling me to head out into those dry woods.
See ya later.
See ya.
He heads back next Monday. This week is get a physical and fill out forms week for him.
I can’t believe CBtY went out to wait for the bus 20 minutes early. He must be completely bored with vacation.
Hi all. Back in the east, school starts tomorrow. Summer is over but at least the grass mowing will stop soon. 🙂
Glad you had a good vacation, and that you’re back home safe and sound.
Yep the grass will stop growing soon, and it’s not soon enough for me. 🙂
Thanks FM! Things have already slowed a bit.
Hi everyone! We returned to work today and delved further into the mysteries of our new software. Tonight’s commissioner meeting was the highlight of my day. Pretty pathetic, I must say! Ah well, only 2 years, 4 months until at least partial retirement.
You can’t retire … I’ll lose my powerful political connections.
so I guess it’s a humpless (insert geezer joke here) Wednesday.
