       A Hostile Audience   [Rich Lowry]

       One side effect of McCain’s debate gambit is, I’m told, that everyone at Ole Miss now hates him. It will make for a very hostile audience tonight among those students and faculty attending. He might have to apologize for creating the uncertainty or make some explanation up front, which is never ideal.

   Boston Globe Kennedy taken to hospital due to mild seizure — that doctors believe it was triggered by a change in medication.

   “Senator Kennedy will return home tonight and looks forward to watching the debate,” Kennedy’s representatives said in a statement.

   Apparently there is a debate tonight. The funny thing about it is I really don’t even care. There is, quite honestly, nothing Obama could say that would make me not vote for him. His opening statement could be “My name is Barack Hussein Obama, and I am a muslim, and winning this election is all part of a plot to turn the United States into my own personal caliphate,” and I would shrug and vote for him anyway because at least he would go about it in a competent manner. Compared to the last eight years with C+ Augustus and Darth Cheney and the possibility of four more with Johnny Drama and Bible Spice, that would be preferable.

   The only thing I am really interested in is seeing if he can get McCain to erupt in anger.

   What is the point? Really…

   The League of Women Voters called them “campaign-trail charades devoid of substance, spontaneity, and honest answers to tough questions.” A genuinely nonpartisan, civic organization, the league used to sponsor the debates but quit in disgust in 1988, saying: “The league has no intention of becoming an accessory to the hoodwinking of the American public.”

   Had McCain followed through on his pledge to bail on this debate the information available to voters who take their votes seriously would equal what they will learn tonight now that there will be a “debate”.

   That so many apparently have no clue how they fuel their own “hoodwinking” I can only assume that the so called “creative class” is wholely unaware of their role in the continuing degradation of information available to voters and the narrowing through attrition of opportunities for voters to hear from varied political voices and opinions.

   Pant suits?
   Who gives a fuck about pant suits when families are tanking all across the country.
