Hasn’t John Lewis earned the right to say whatever he wants about George Wallace-tactics? I think Rep. Lewis is the best qualified person alive to opine on such matters. And I think McCain is out of line to ask the Obama campaign to repudiate Lewis’ remarks.

Yes. John Lewis knows.
And if America was correct, we would listen to him.
Always.
The story you linked to above is the reason I read “Walking with the Wind,” the reason I have come to see John Lewis as one of the truly great Americans, and one of the many reasons I think the BMT is a great place to visit often.
The Obama campaign basically just said John Lewis was right, and that they expect the McSame campaign to continue to repudiate the “politics of division” like McSame did publicly yesterday.
Nasty McNasty is so far out of line that his campaign has become a joke, a mean and malicious little joke. Of course, Palin is wrong to whip up the bubbas and hate mongers of the land, of course she should not be sewing seeds of division in this incredible crisis of ours, of course, she doesn’t have the slightest clue as to the consequences of her actions. But, who selected this retard to be his vice presidential candidate? Putting the blame where it belongs, we are back once again to Mr. McCain, our great maverick impersonator. Come on, John, stand up and take responsibility for your actions, for once.
When Harold Ford and John Lewis are on the same page then the object of their ire has got to be dead wrong…

Even worse than the smear of Obama as a supposed terrorist because he worked with Bill Ayres 25-35 years after Ayres’ crimes is McCain’s hypocrisy of not owning up to what he really hates Ayres for. After all, McCain hasn’t issued guidelines on what type of criminals should be shunned forever to qualify someone for public office. What about McCain’s friend the unrepentant political burglar G. Gordon Liddy?
McCain can’t admit what he really hates Ayres for because it is a ‘crime’ shared by most of the American people. He hates Ayres because Ayres opposed the war in Vietnam, a majority opinion in America since 1973.

I never thought of it that way.
John Lewis is right. and a man who got the shit beaten out of him by folks that sound like the McCain rallies today. the history of this country is littered with Black men hanging from trees after encountering groups that sound like the McCain/Palin rallies.
When you thought it couldn’t get any deeper in the septic tank, these knucle draggers go after John Lewis???? WTF??? I guess Obama needs to repudiate every black person that’s ever lived.
