Apparently the only way I can beat Andi into the cafe is to post a new one on my way to bed…so here you go! 🙂
Why are you beating me into the cafe — I would have come in on my own. ;P
Umm, good night?
I figured you might like to wake up to a fresh cafe for a change. 😉
It was fun, but the show ran until after 12:00 and it took about 40 minutes to get out of the parking lot (and this in an alcohol-free venue!) and then it was a 3-hour drive through some mountains and intense fog on the way home. We walked in the door here around 4 am.
The Allman Bros Band was okay, but the (remainder of) the Dead were actually better than they’ve been in a long time. Bob Weir has a huge bald spot now…and was actually focused on playing music instead of pretending he was Bobby Rockstar. Maybe that was the difference?
While we there, I ran into some old friends that I hung around with in my 20s, which was sort of cool for about 15 minutes…
I’m glad to hear somebody I can identify with is also getting a bald spot. I’ll bet Bob’s is bigger than mine!
Dogs doing nothing photogenically (I miss Thursday Critter Blogging).

Good morning!
It looks great! That forest has not been touched for a while, it seems.
If you mean touched as in logged, it has but they were very selective about the logging and it was about 10 years ago — fortunately, healthy forests come back very fast from careful logging.
That’s what I meant.
Ah, finally the helicopters left. Was woken up by helicopter noise a few blocks behind me @ 5.40 – and it’s been going on till just now.
Lousy way to wake up. We do get a lot of flyover noise (helicopters and fighter jets) from the reserve base that is about 15 miles away but at least they have the decency to wait till most people are up.
Well I’ve decided to keep stumbling in the dark so I can continue morning walks so I’m off.
Hope you have a good day.
Real estate taxes are considerably lower for Indiana tree farmers. Call me at the office for details – you may be glad you did;-)
I know this is a bit weird but we want to pay our full property taxes. We figure BC needs every cent it can get.
Yes, I talked to David, the school superintendent a few days ago. They have 16 mil out in loans just to keep going. That’s one very big reason to get caught up with tax billings ASAP.
Back home from Cape May. It was a beautiful weekend. The b2 boy even got to swim in a pool there.
It was a wonderful weekend, especially if you spent it in Cape May. And we’re having another glorious day here today.
I can’t believe that there is a baseball player named Coco Crisp.
It got me thinking. If Al Franken married Halle Berry, would she take the name, Halle Franken-Berry?
Having worked with someone named Cinderella, I can believe it.
As for the Franken and Berry match up … in your dreams. Uh, or I guess in Franken’s dreams.
Well for me anyway — I’m taking Friday off. Yay for weeks with no Monday and no Friday. I want to do this all the time.

Good morning, Andi!
Three-day weeks are great. While I was in on Monday, I’m off tomorrow and Friday – Berkshires waiting.
Oh that sounds great. I’m just going to work on getting the rest of of firewood cut and stacked (Jim’s off for Fall Break).
I hope you’ll have lovely weather and even lovelier fall color.
Thanks!
We’ve heard that this weekend is the last for good viewing.
Your ‘getting it done’ – I take it to mean that you get Jim to do it…
Well both Jim and I try to take the Huck Finn role but somehow that just doesn’t work.
Actually, it’s pretty satisfying work and the forecast is for sun and temps in the 60s so it should be perfect weather for outdoor exertion.
She meant Tom Sawyer.
MMM. BIG fun.
Have a great time! I’m jealous even thought I was down the shore last weekend.
Thanks! The occasional weekend getaway gets more important every year.
I actually think I like those little long weekend breaks better than a long vacation. I get antsy when I’m away from home for too long, plus, I’d rather have more frequent short breaks than one big long one.
Have fun in the Berkshires! The leaves were just gorgeous on our drive up to Penn State Monday.
(ps, curly has an email from me)
Good morning!
She’ll probably be checking later, I think she has early appointments today.
That sounds like the perfect workweek to me. Anything special going on?
I’m taking half the day off tomorrow to go to Parents’ Day at CBtE’s school tomorrow, so I’ll be working all day Friday, for sure.
Despite the extreme lack of rain, we’re still having a pretty fall here. The oaks and beeches haven’t changed yet but this picture doesn’t have any so it’s putting on a very colorful show.

I’m looking forward to my weekly trip through Morgan-Monroe Forest Friday to pick up cider for the fire dept. fish fry. North Shore Drive and Anderson Road are quite scenic this time of year. The lake shot is lovely with the colors reflected in the water along the shore.
Morning ID. The deeper part of our woods aren’t that colorful because they are so dominated by beeches and oaks (and I’m guessing neither of those will show much color anyway since it’s so dry).
Jim and I will be in your neighborhood later today. I need to go to the library to do some really high speed downloading so we decided we would just go ahead and do early voting while we’re in town (and even better, eat dinner at the Hobnob).
Mmmm… you might be able to get a table at the Hobnob without much of a wait since its Thurs. Good luck!
Yeah, originally we were going to do this on Friday and then we got our brains back.
We have some spectacular color here, best I’ve seen in years. It’s the Maples mostly with the best reds.
These are the best maple leaves I’ve seen here.

That’s really beautiful Andi.
However, you’ve never seen the Southern pine straw turn. It goes from green to……. well brown. The months we wait for that is just something that—-OK actually we go back into the house and wait for it to happen. 😉
It’s still warm down here, but from the big Oaks and Pecan trees in the back yard we’re having leaves fall. My brother came back last week and did the lawn and it’s still now growing. Yeeeeeaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!
Things are doing well, and I hope that everyone here is doing good.
BTW it’s getting close to snow pictures! I’m very much looking forward to that.
Everyone take care, and I hope that you’re doing fine.
FM
Great to see you here.
We’re a long way away from snow here — we haven’t even had a first frost yet. In fact it was in the 80s as recently as Tuesday and it still in the 60s.
I think in Olivia’s neck of the woods that it’s starting to get cold. Of course, my people (OK Olivia made me an honorary Canadian) know what cold weather is like. Hah!
What am I saying Hah! for? In Dec. I’ll be lucky not to have the AC on. 🙂
Well in December I might be jealous of your warm weather but right now I’m looking forward to the change.
You send me yours and I’ll send you mine. Oh Wait! That doesn’t right. 😛
how cute you are and how WONDERFUL it is to see you … 😀
Oliviaaaaaa!!!!
I was just going to go and I look back and I see you. It’s so good to see you. I was thinking with the banter back and forth that you were the one person missing.
Unfortunately it’s almost 9:00 pm here and it near my bedtime. See over the years some things don’t change. 🙂
See Ya
It was like old times.
Good night, FM! It was really great to see you.
You and Andi signing off early for bed …….. wouldn’t have it any other way.
Night. 🙂
Nice to see you ambling into the cafe. Your table was getting dusty.
Heyyyyyyy Mary!
You’re wrong. Me and George have always been here, but just not around. That damned dog keeps getting so drunk on me that I can’t get him to wait tables anymore. I think he missed you. 🙂
He always did look debonair in that Love Boat tux….
I really wish I remember how to post pictures again. It’s been so long, but George still looks the same. 🙂
Well, sweetheart, get your ass in gear and remember how to post pics.
Thank you SN! I think that’s the first time I laughed out loud in a long time.
Yes Mam I will. :p
He did. But I hear he’s put on some weight because FM is spoiling him, so maybe the tux doesn’t fit anymore.
Nope you’re wrong. Have you ever seen someone young in a tux and then when they’re old in a tux. Well George is the same. For myself can’t say the same. 🙂
Tell George that now that summer is over, casual days at the cafe are over and he can dig out the tux. Then he can bug you to post his picture.
Oh Mary you never understood George.
A tux is his life. How could he serve without his tux and being drunk at the same time. It’s unseemly!
did you see my exciting day that I posted in the open thread today?
Who the hell reads open threads? A bomb? Any word on who dunnit?
All the news says is that an “incendiary device” was in the parking garage – a 69 man who lived in the condos picked up a package that was next to his car and it exploded.
When I left at 6:00 they still had the street blocked off and the ten white SUV’s were still parked all in a row, so the feds are still in there looking around.
the man is injured but not critically.
I just read what you wrote earlier. That must have been frightening as hell. I don’t know what to say. I will say, don’t go to work tomorrow. Something that close shouldn’t be taken for chance.
I feel a little safer since it appears that it wasn’t meant for any of the 7 floors of lawyers in that building. 🙂
I’m waiting for them to release the name of the man and then … all might become clear.
Mary as you should have known by know, I worry about all of you. Bad weather, things going on—it worries me. Now you’re talking about a bomb!
This is getting too close to elections and I’m afraid things are going to happen. Please be safe.
Hey I heard you got visited by a snake — that ought to be enough to worry about.
Are you kidding? I’ve hardly walked out of the house in the last week. Poor George will whine and look at me like there’s no snake out there. After awhile I have to take him out, and it’s one of those thing were I say, “you go out first”.
I’ve a brave man and I know it, but I’ll send out George first. 🙂
No task is too daunting for George. 🙂
Don’t worry, I’m a chicken and I don’t take risks.
Here’s a funny story to make you laugh. I was driving this morning and I was passing a bunch of houses that mostly had Obama signs with just an occasional McCain sign. This was an area that’s usually Republican so it made me happy. Then I saw a McCain sign next to an Obama sign. At first I thought they must be in adjoining yards right next to each other, but then I realized they were in the same yard. And each one had an extra little sign on the stick, right below the political sign. The McCain sign said “his” and the Obama sign said “hers”. I really laughed at that.
I’m just now starting to see the signs around here.
I’m also glad you don’t take risk. Be sure to stay that way.
That is so funny!
We saw dual Hillary and Obama signs here during primary season, but no one went so far as to identify which sign was his or hers.
they told me there had been a news story about it. Video and everything.
link
Very cute, but the dude’s a moron. 😉
oh yeah.
No I didn’t. What happened?
of a building two doors up that had to be evacuated because a bomb went off in the parking garage. There’s a major street and a one story building between us so I could look out my window and watch everything. Lots of fire engines and police cars – and then a line of identical white SUV’s drove down the street, parked all in a row and a bunch of big guys dressed in dark clothes got out and went inside. They were still there when I left.
See above what I wrote. You be careful.
That is pretty exciting. Did anybody get any work done in your office today?
I had a really exciting morning at Parents’ Day at CBtE’s school. Best part was when his Spanish teacher began going off about how he hates John McCain, and there is no way he’ll vote for him even though he’s a registered Republican, and what was he thinking picking that woman for VP? Classic.
Hi CG.
Sounds like your day was pretty fun fill. 🙂
How’s everything on the home front?
Things are pretty good here. CbtE seems to be off to a good start at school this year, which is a relief. CBtY has been home with a cold, but he’s heading back to school tomorrow.
I’m busy with work, which is very welcome after a slow August and September. And of course we’re all anxiously awaiting November 4.
We definitely need new George pictures. Have you been keeping busy? I miss seeing you in here every morning.
yes. Because once all the evacuated people disappeared there was really not much to see except for fireman hanging out for hours.
What really sucked for the people in that building is that they weren’t allowed back in – and so they couldn’t get their cars. So they all had to figure out how to get home I guess.
I think I love CBtE’s Spanish teacher 🙂
We just had a parking garage bomb episode near here: LINK I don’t think they’ve figured out who did it, either.
Actually, all of CBtE’s teachers seemed pretty good this year. And his advisor (he chose the same one he had last year) is also his art teacher this year, and they’re making really cool clay stuff for the first part of the year. I’ll have to post pictures of his work when it comes home.
The whole political conversation with the Spanish teacher started when he began talking about his wife’s uncharacteristically loud and visceral reaction to seeing McCain on the tee-vee. 🙂
it would be cool to see them.
I went to the eye doctor this morning for my yearly checkup and suddenly he started talking about the election. I’ve been going to this guy for years and he’s never brought it up before. He was acting like he was ambivalent, but it seemed pretty clear he was going toward Obama. I think he brought it up because he’s looking for affirmation. So I affirmed. 🙂
Weird that you had an episode near you too. Unlikely to be connected but … weird.
It’s funny how many people are sort of feeling out whether everyone’s voting for Obama., but trying not to be too obvious about it..it’s happened at the dentist, my yoga class, school, the drugstore…
Glad you were able to provide the affirmation he was looking for. 🙂
As I said before, you both be careful.
That’s pretty weird. I went and read one of the newspaper accounts but it was all speculation.
Great to see you, FM! But bite your tongue about the snow, we’re not ready for that yet!
Do you get pecans off your pecan trees? You’ve got me thinking about pie now…
Nope did get one pecan. I figured it would take too much energy to pick one up. 🙂
Heh, my friend’s parents live in Ville Platte, Louisiana and their yard is full of pecan trees. Each year they have a huge crop and make pecan pies and pralines and stuff. This year the squirrels have been stealing all of the nuts, so one by one they’ve met an untimely demise.
Sniff, Bebo, and Giddy are ready to volunteer to go on squirrel patrol — and all they want is all the roast squirrel they can eat.
When my Grandmother was alive, we went out every year and picked up every pecan. She would have us going up into the trees to shake them. She could do wonders with pecans. Actually she could do wonders with anything she cooked. I can’t really remember her ever being out of the kitchen. However, I can’t remember her not ever loving what she was doing.
Your grandmother sounds great. And I’m still wishing for some pecan pie. Maybe this weekend.
Yeah I think she was.
who lives in Southern Missouri. She’s in a nursing home now but when I was a kid we used to go down to her house all the time. There were pecan trees lining the fields at the end of her street and no one cared if you went and collected pecans.
I liked collecting them but I hated the whole cracking and cleaning part. But I liked the eating part. 🙂
I’ve still got Aunt Ora. She’s 102 now and in April will be 103. She still tells stories about when FMom was a child and how they would pick pecans and what they would make.
Well hi there Family Man! Glad to see you around here!
Mrs. Dem had some pine straw hot pads her granny from East Texas wove many years ago. I’ll have to see if they’re still around. Try to stop in more often. We were getting ready to send out the bloodhounds;-)
Just so you know … no crowds at the Hobnob on a Thursday.
so … we should all come visit over a Thursday?
Hmm, how far of a drive do you think that is from SE PA?
You can come visit me any time. I had my crowd for the year last weekend. Our little tourist town, however, will be jammed until the leaves are all gone (and then it’ll be jammed again for most of December).
when is the slow time of year? That’s not too hot.
January – then its all uphill from there. May is usually the first break-even month for the restaurants & inns.
Forget all the slow time. When the deep snow!
Snow’s a little iffy here. Sometimes we have it, more often – not.
We can promise you a tasty, uncrowded dinner if you do.
Hi ID.
Good to see you too. My great grandmother made stuff out of pine straw and the cones too. I remember my grandmother had something in the corner of the wall in her house that my great grandmother made, not the pine cone, but the parts that come off from them. It was like a three their thing that she put stuff on. Wish I could do that because I remember it looked really nice.
It felt like old times.
And in keeping with old times, I’m the first geezer out of here.
Night, folks.
This looks like fun, and just happens to be nearby: LINK
But $59 per person, plus tip? pfeh.
Good morning!
Looks like last night was a busy one!
Good to see you back, FM!
curly and I picked up a rental last night and will head to the Berkshires this morning. We hope to see something like this:
Sad to say; the above is not my picture. Found it while reading the news from back home this morning.
and may you take many just as gorgeous photos that you bring back to you. 🙂
Good morning ask! I wonder if that’s an aspen forest? It looks suspiciously like the one we spent some time in several years ago at Gunnison National Forest in Colorado. Oh and have a great weekend in the Berkshires!
and show us your wet dreams … ’cause today’s theme is water and the diary is ready to get drenched with your great photos. 🙂
Good morning Andi! Have any apple crisp last night?
