Sarah Palin “palling around” with Neiman Marcus, Macy’s and Saks Fifth Avenue to the tune of $150,000? What did you expect? She’s a Republican. It’s what they do.
At least she didn’t have a $400 haircut.

So much for that article about her being “one of us” to the point of shopping at Target or Walmart for the kids’ clothes to wear to her inauguration as governor…
She really is the perfect prototype Bush replacement. The way she talks, the way she pretends to be a country bumpkin (shooting moose instead of clearing brush), the delight in making nasty attacks and whipping up hatred, the total lack of any intellectual curiosity (did she ever figure out a newspaper she’s read?), all of it.
I actually think flying her kids to NY on the Alaskan taxpayers dime is more damning, but the shopping spree story resonates more with Democrats after all the stupid haircut stories about Clinton and Edwards.
That $700-a-night hotel room for 5 nights was just a tad over the top.
Actually, that’s cheap for New York. I spent more in 1995 and I stayed at the cheapest Manhattan hotel that didn’t have rooms by the hour. I got a discount at Holiday Inn for $146 a night. $10 a night today must be a big discount.
Cancel that! I first read it as $700 for five nights, i.e. $140 a night ($10 was a typo).
I agree, except I don’t think you can really say it was on the “taxpayer’s dime” since if I remember right, Alaskans don’t pay any kind of state taxes individually. It was on the citizen’s dime, though, since every dollar spent on dragging the kids around NY is one less dollar that can be applied to things that are actually worthwhile for citizens of the state.
And that’s why I think it’s more damning. She wasted money to give her kids a vacation (I’ve done business travel – it’s okay to bring your family as long as you pay for them yourself. And the Palins aren’t poor – she could have afforded it). OTOH, the $150K spent on new wardrobes is $150K that doesn’t get to get used on robocalls and TV/Radio ads in battleground states. And since it came out of RNC coffers, it’s $150K that can’t be spent on shoring up tight Senate/House races either.
I personally wish they’d spent a half-a-million on the family. Or more.
Is the McCain campaign embarrassed? Ah, but they blame the media
Ambinder
yeah, it’s all gonna go to charity.
The whole thing just makes me laugh.
Of course, I’m a loon who thinks she takes a really good picture, so it’s not all bad.
Come on! Have you SEEN the way she used to dress before she was VP candidate?! They HAD to get her an image consultant (oh, yes, they did!), and get her some decent clothes. It’s one thing for her to do her country hick shtick, but you can’t have her LOOKING like one.
And who SAYS she didn’t have a $400 hair cut?
As a married man whose wife does regular visits to the her favorite hair place, I can attest to the fact that once they plop their rear into the chair it doesn’t take long for them to get their $400 worth.
Check out Sarah’s fashion “sense”. Are we supposed to believe no one on her team caught what animal that was on the scarf?
Shopping at only proAmerica stores no doubt.
Just doin’ her part to keep the economy hummin’ along.
“At least she didn’t have a $400 haircut.”
what do you call this makeover?
Tangentially related, I was wondering if that means McCain pays for his own haircuts instead of the campaign picking up the tab.
Some of that could be for Cindy McCain.
let’s get out our calculators.
Palin was introduced on August 29th? No such cost in August so we can rule out McCain’s haircuts. It’s all Palin. In 32 days they spent $4,716.49. Look at the before and after.
Perhaps the McCains have a live-in barber or a chauffeur that does double duty.
McCain’s haircuts cost money?
I’m most disturbed by all the family travel. Five days in New York for a brief conference – all on the taxpayers tab? Shouldn’t the kids be in school? Did a tutor travel with the family?
A McCain campaign spokesperson claims the clothes will be donated to charity after the election. I would like to know where and the exact date. Those knee-high boots are pretty kewl. I could spray Lysol inside to overcome the Palin foot sweat odor. And that donkey scarf, I’d like to get that for 5 bucks at a Salvation Army store.
Will they take away Piper’s cute little dresses and give them to homeless children? I see her little face scrunched up with tears. As an adult, she will write a memoir about that being the turning point when she started to hate America.
Honestly, with the coverage this is getting, I’m assuming that they will end up selling the stuff after the election as a fundraiser (perhaps on eBay?) and using the money to refill the empty RNC coffers. There’s zero chance that she or her family are going to get to keep it now.
Aw, man–do we have to?
