I agree with Duncan that sitting U.S. Senators should not be given anonymity to talk about the general state of American politics. That’s pretty ridiculous. But we can have fun guessing who he is!

Mel Martinez?
Oh, Boo, you’re no fun.
This is just like watching a game on TV, seeing the AFLAC trivia question come on, and hearing the analyst — who is, incredible as it sometimes seems (depending on the analyst), paid for knowing more about the game than the viewer does — blurt out the answer in about three seconds.
this game where you ask the question and then proceed to answer it is not fun.
I think he was trying to start a discussion by tossing out his best guess in order to encourage others to respond in kind.
Either the audience is not as challenging as he’d hoped, his best guess was too good, or both.
That’s what I figure, anyway.
his guess was too good. Well, at least Boo saved me the embarrassment of exposing who I was going to guess.
now you have to say! Who?
haha, no. it’s sooo wrong in retrospect. the guy I picked isn’t even that moderate of a Republican. The secret will die with me.
Not soon, I hope!
On MTP on November 9,
Yep, Martinez.
His statements on MTP echoed a couple other key themes also mentioned in the Politico interview. Put the two interviews together and it shows a certain pragmatism by Martinez that I didn’t know existed.
Pragmatism is to resounding defeat as mushrooms are to humidity.
John McCain.
Or his evil twin!
I think it’s no one, just a journalistic rhetorical tool.
Lieberman
Arlen Specter?
That’s the spirit!
Interesting.
I guess I really wasn’t wondering as much which Republican senator it was as I was trying to think if his statement about Clinton invading Iraq was just some sideways criticism or some insight into Clinton’s thinking to which he had been privy. But now that Martinez’s name has been broached, I can’t think of anyone else it could be.
Clinton is so not dumb enough to come up with the idea of invading Iraq. Not smart enough to avoid voting for it, though.
George Voinovich, Ohio.
Moderate, reasonable, one of the few GOP center-right types left. He’s not a wackadoodle.
