A wrong number phone call to NORAD in 1955 led to a series of events that allows you to follow St. Nick’s progress as he travels the world dispensing gifts.
According to NORAD, Santa began his latest flight early Wednesday at the International Date Line in the Pacific Ocean. Historically, Santa visits the South Pacific first, then New Zealand and Australia. NORAD points out that only Santa knows his route.
Check his progress here.
Santa is currently in Resolute, Nunavut. I am jealous – it is high on my list of places I want to go. I really want to hike in Quttinirpaaq national park.
NORAD is surveilling Santa. Apparently he didn’t employ the right lobbyists.
We had a reprieve this morning. We’re visiting my brother in Melbourne and as a result my family is sharing a room. My eldest daughter woke somewhere between 2am and 3am and said “let’s see if Santa has been here yet”. My partner fortunately managed to convince her that it was too early and Santa had probably not visited, and to my surprise our daughter went back to sleep. The last couple of Christmases we have had 4am or 5am starts: exhausting but worth it to see the childrens’ excitement.
I remember listening to WTAR-AM (now changed call letters several times) from Norfolk, Va., broadcast radio reports of Santa’s whereabouts and progress when I was growing up back in the Olden Days.
Had NORAD been tracking Santa he would have crashed into the Sear’s tower and we’d be at war with the North Pole.
