Here’s a new cafe for everyone…
It’s misty and rainy here again. I feel like I live in Seattle.
Same here and its predicted to hit 73 degrees today! How nice it was to sleep in for a change.
I think I slept until 8. I woke up at 5 for a little while, though, because all the boys (the kids have friends over) decided to get up and watch teevee then for some odd reason.
I’m a little tired of being cooped up inside.
I may venture out later today for provisions. Mrs. ID woke up with the flu yesterday, so I won’t be going far. We had planned to visit her mom today, but that’s not going to happen now. Maybe I’ll take a look at the leaky dishwasher, if I can figure out how to get the exterior panels off.
Sounds like a low key day.
We’re brewing a batch of beer to keep ourselves entertained.
What I got for xmas? A cold. Imogen got it too.
Hector is enjoying his “castle”. Eventually he’ll chew it to bits, which is why I only use cardboard tenons to hold it together. Cardboard is digestible by a bunny, tape and glue are not.
Looks like a lovely day here but because we are not feeling well we’ll probably pass on a long walk and go see a movie (“In Bruges”).
In Bruges was one of my friend’s favorite movie this year. I still haven’t seen it yet, though.
I’ve read good things about In Bruges, and it seemed about our “speed” at the moment. Fortunately we have a little indy theater in Hobart that shows second-run, independent and foreign language films. It also has a cafe and serves beer and wine in the theater.
That sounds like a great theater.
We have an old movie theater (balcony, fancy ceiling, etc) near us that was bought/restored/run by concerned citizens, and it shows second-run and more of the independent artsy type films. I love that place.
How was the movie? I think we might watch it this afternoon on cable if it’s still available.
My “In Bruges” review:
Ploding
Dark
Violent
Wonderfully acted
POLITICALLY INCORRECT
Brilliant
Hope you two feel better soon. 🙁
Thanks. I’m at the transition stage between a sore throat and a runny nose. I’ll be sure to stock up on anti-histamines before we go to the theater so that I don’t annoy the other patrons.
And one of your fellow patrons will be sure to wake you up when they leave. At least that’s the way anti-histamines effect me.
Given the number and severity of my allergies and the fact that the “non-drowsy” meds don’t work on all of my symptoms I should at least feel “blessed” that anti-histamines don’t put me to sleep.
Andi’s like that. I think she’s just built up a tolerance to them, but I’m happy for both of you.
Now that’s what I call a holiday miracle. 😉
We had a nice time doing our Xmas celebration with Jim’s family yesterday in Cincy, even got an interesting sky to watch on the way home.

Wow, gorgeous sky!
I slept till 7:30…no miracle involved though. I’m a natural at sleeping until after 7:00. 🙂
It’s warm and windy here today.
That’s a great talent to have. I’m very jealous.
That was our weather yesterday. Then the front moved through (complete with storms and winds up to 60mph) and knocked 40 degrees off the temp in about 2 hours. But we’re going to be in the low 40s today so at least it wasn’t an arctic blast.
I guess I better get out there and enjoy the warm while it lasts then. I knew it had gotten a lot warmer when I woke up at 4 am feeling too warm.
Right now I’m just enjoying the quiet of everyone else being asleep and the dogs being outside. It gets a little crowded here when it rains and the cabin is full of the CBs and a few of their friends.
Now I’m worried that the beer we brewed yesterday is off to a slow start fermentation-wise…
It’s sunny here this morning which is a nice change — worth the temp drop. I think I’ll head on out and enjoy it.
Hope you enjoy your day. See ya later.
Good luck with the brew!
Thanks. I’m wondering if it just seems slow starting to me because I’m used to using a carboy (which has very little headspace for the gas produced during fermentation to collect in before pushing out the airlock compared with the bucket we’re using this time). I guess we’ll find out.
I’m just glad someone liked his Christmas present. 😉
Did you have a nice Christmas with the asklets? How long will swimmer be home?
You can always try heating the bucket a bit (with a hot pad or similar – I have a “beer belt” that goes around the carboy) to get the yeast a bit more active.
I tend you brew lagers in Winter, since they like the lower temperatures. In my experience, ales tend to get “stuck” at temperatures below 65F.
We’re using a lager yeast and brewing a Kolsch…so we moved the bucket, turned up the heat (our house is 62 at night), and are wrapping the bucket in a blanket to maintain temp. If that doesn’t work, we may re-pitch the yeast tomorrow.
Sounds like you are on top of it. I think your original suspicion is probably correct.
I broke my carboy about two months ago by knocking over a jar that then fell on top of it (of course it was full of a brown ale at the time – very messy). I’m planning on getting a new one this week and starting another batch of my “Dark Side of the Moon” brown ale, which converts very rapidly and should be drinkable in about 10-14 days.
Good for you!
I was up before 5.30 🙁
It’s so warm – 60 already, going to 65+.
We’ll go to MOMA today to see this special before it closes next week.
I’m envious of your MOMA trip! You’ll have to tell us about it later.
I thought I heard we might hit 70 here today. Good day for the boys to wash the car! 🙂
Good morning all! Its nice to see some sunshine for a change. Sadly, my snoozing was interrupted before daylight by a very noisy cat altercation down the hall. Apparently, someone’s territory was violated. I was not pleased!
Good morning ID. Sorry to hear about your cat troubles. My 10 year old usually serves the same sort of function. 😉
I really like that photo. It has a great variety of perspectives. And it reminds me of an area in Montana that I used to travel through on my trips between ND and N CA.
You’re very close — Jim took that on one of the backcountry roads outside of Arco, Idaho.
