Martin Longman a contributing editor at the Washington Monthly.
He is also the founder of Booman Tribune and Progress Pond. He has a degree in philosophy from Western Michigan University.
Who can’t? I was rooting for him by the middle of the film.
Montalban also helped found Nosotros, an organization that tries to improve opportunities for Latino actors as well as improve the image of Latinos (particularly Mexicans) in film.
The Nosotros website right now is in maintenance mode, otherwise, I would have included a link. But I suggest you visit it in a week or so when they have finished what I believe will be a homage to Montalban.
You probably already know this – there was a link to Booman Tribune this AM on the front page of the New York Times online. It was a link to your post: “Bush’s real 9/11 record”.
Being 42, I remember those ‘Cordoba’ commercials. I still to this day can not say ‘Cordoba’ without imitating Montalban. Not that I have many opportunities to say ‘Cordoba’.
Note that the ad copy he reads calls the Cordoba a ‘small’ car! My grandma had the Chrysler New Yorker from 1972. Driving it was like trying to fly an Imperial Star Destroyer through an asteroid field.
As to the location of Fantasy Island, I think that depends on were you live. West Coasters assumed it was in the Pacific because that’s the ocean they knew (and the show was produced in LA). East Coasters assumed it was here. Eh, whatever. The quality of lighting is definitely southern California…
And let’s not forget the Wrath of Khan:

Don’t forget that ‘Prisoner’ Patrick McGoohan died today, too.
Good times. RIP, Ricardo.
No one could say “Cordoba” like Ricardo Montalban.
In other news – you can now give W the grade he so richly deserves:

whoever does that links to me all the time.
He’s riding the big Cordoba in the sky now.
Question for all of you who grew up in the 70s: where did you think Fantasy Island was, in the Atlantic or the Pacific?
I always assumed Atlantic (Carribean, probably) and I was surprised to find out later that many people imagined it was in the Pacific.
I didn’t place it on Earth at all. I thought it was just another product of the collective subconscious.
Atlantis
Pacific, near Hawaii
an activist and pioneer, he will be missed.
