Ricardo Montalban has passed away at 88 years of age.
That brings back happy childhood memories. The first season was AWESOME!!
And who can forget the Cordoba?

Montalban also helped found Nosotros, an organization that tries to improve opportunities for Latino actors as well as improve the image of Latinos (particularly Mexicans) in film.
The Nosotros website right now is in maintenance mode, otherwise, I would have included a link. But I suggest you visit it in a week or so when they have finished what I believe will be a homage to Montalban.
Don’t forget that ‘Prisoner’ Patrick McGoohan died today, too.

Question for all of you who grew up in the 70s: where did you think Fantasy Island was, in the Atlantic or the Pacific?
I always assumed Atlantic (Carribean, probably) and I was surprised to find out later that many people imagined it was in the Pacific.
I didn’t place it on Earth at all. I thought it was just another product of the collective subconscious.

Being 42, I remember those ‘Cordoba’ commercials. I still to this day can not say ‘Cordoba’ without imitating Montalban. Not that I have many opportunities to say ‘Cordoba’.
Note that the ad copy he reads calls the Cordoba a ‘small’ car! My grandma had the Chrysler New Yorker from 1972. Driving it was like trying to fly an Imperial Star Destroyer through an asteroid field.
As to the location of Fantasy Island, I think that depends on were you live. West Coasters assumed it was in the Pacific because that’s the ocean they knew (and the show was produced in LA). East Coasters assumed it was here. Eh, whatever. The quality of lighting is definitely southern California…
