It’s here, it’s here! The big day is here!
Huzzah! w00t! Joy, joy! Woohoo. Hip, hip hooray.
And every other exclamation of happiness I can think of.
Hooray! It’s far too long in coming!
But it’s here, it’s here! Woo-hoo!
Are they letting you watch it at work?
They let the court computers stream it. I managed to see only bits and pieces. 🙁
We got to see him take the oath and then I think the bandwidth all got used, because all the PCs in our office stopped streaming at the same time:(
What the heck is THIS stuff?
Is that your yard???
Yep. First snow in five years. Hopey is ecstatic because she’s never seen it before.
Love the pictures. I hope Hopey gets a good time in before it all melts.
Wow! That looks like more than we’ve had all winter this year.
… everybody has to watch The Martha Stewart Show tomorrow because “Tune in today for a special show dedicated to one of America’s most popular desserts, cupcakes! [REMOVE ALL THE UNINTERESTING STUFF ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE] Plus, Marlo Scott of the “Sweet Revenge” cupcake bar prepares one of her signature treats, a new twist on the classic vanilla cupcake.”
That’s right … my niece is going to go hang out with an ex-con. On CBS. At 10:00 a.m. EST.
OMG, that’s cool! Can you get me her autograph? Or better yet, a dozen cupcakes!
All ya gotta do to get the cupcakes is visit her place and buy them. 🙂
Surely someone here has the ability to record and YouTube the event for those of us without American television.
‘Cuz I really want to make those cupcakes.
I’m going to record on the dvr but I’m pretty sure we’d be violating a copyright if we put it up (not that I know how to get from the dvr to a youtube).
She’s hit the big time now! Next – SNL!
Or maybe The Daily Show…
Of course you’d be violating copyright. Half of YouTube is populated with copyright violations. The trick YouTube uses is keeping the clips short enough that the copyright holders don’t really mind.
To get from the dvr to YouTube you need to take the output of your dvr and plug it into the video input on your computer. If you’ve got a decent graphics card you probably have an s-vhs plug on it.
Fortunately for you, I don’t expect you to learn a whole new process just to post one clip. Even my deebishness has it’s limits.
I don’t think any of our computers has the right connection but we could burn it to a dvd and work from that. Who knows we may try it.
See, there’s always a way for the technophile.
It’s P-day minus 3, and counting. Which means I need to finish the whelping box today.
Luna has turned up her nose at her favorite food this morning (but the wrens haven’t). She’s had a lot of stomach upset during this pregnancy and I’m sure well both be glad to have it over with.
Poor Luna (but lucky wrens). And lucky us, we get all the excitement of waiting for the puppies and none of the puke or pain.
Yep, I like babies, as long as someone else has them.
I really must clean this window.
Papa wren stuffing his spawn with Luna’s food. I’m sure anyone with kids at home can relate.
Both of those are great pictures, smudges or no. And my, those are big babies.
They grow up so fast. 😉
They only left the nest about 10 days ago. At that point they had stubby little tails – very cute.
Like many Australian birds, these youngsters will actually live with their parents for most of the next year (and maybe even the year after). These extended feeding periods are thought to be an adaptation to Australia’s year round food supply, as contrasted to the Northern hemisphere’s spring food glut. Or in other words, the food here is more marginal, but less seasonal, which encourages animals to take longer to mature.
I’m sure there’s an analogy to modern teenagers in there somewhere.
Only if there’s a part where they insist on never being seen with any member of the family while whining that no one loves them.
Fortunately Luna doesn’t seem to mind all of these goings on mere inches from her head.
The male has just succeeded in pulling this bit from Luna’s dish, while the kids seem to be watching to see if he’s subdued it before they get any closer.
I think dad should tell the kids to get off their butts and help.
They will, eventually. That’s another part of the adaptation. The kids that hang around ’til next year will actually help raise next years chicks. Again, because their isn’t really a spring “feast” here, it sometimes takes more than two adults to forage enough food for the nestlings.
I don’t know if you can view it in the US, but ABC (the Australian one) has a program on line in their documentary section called “mother’s little helpers” about just this subject.
Just went there and it says I’ve got to be in Australia.
Bummer. If you are so inclined, you can look for a proxy server from Australia which will give you the appearance of having an Australian IP.
We get blocked out of a lot of US sites, having an Australian IP.
Not as colorful though.
Beautiful cardinals.
Years ago I had a cat, and a birdfeeder stuck right on the window glass. We called it the “kitty entertainment center”.
Snow makes the birdies show up even better — so I’m guessing Smoochy really likes it.
She was a little unsure…
LOL.
She looks like she’s trying to decide if it’s something to eat or something that’s going to eat her.
The babies look bigger than Dad.
There’s just fluffy.
Dad’s back, but apparently only to feed himself.
“They’re just fluffy.”
Some days I’m more dyslexic than others.
OMG! That is sooo cool!
And now the whole world will know how cute your niece is! Is she giving up the mexican vanilla frosting recipe?
I don’t know. I didn’t ask about the particulars. I guess I’ll find out when I watch it.
That’s great! I’ll tell curly.
Thanks. The proud auntie wants everybody to watch. 🙂
Yet Another No Bush day. I do like this acronym.
Just for today, I’m gonna feel like I cab glide right through everything.

As long as you don’t fall in…
We’re still on the cold side, only 17 this morning.
Hi all. Just a short update before bed.
We went to see Slumdog Millionaire today and can highly recommend that everyone sees it.
Hector wants everyone to know that he’s formally changed his name to Hector Obuna in honor of that other brown guy with the big ears.
Luna is HUGE, but still at least day or two from giving birth. I know this because about 24 hours prior to whelping her temperature will drop a few degrees, and she’s still at normal.
Good night, keres!
curly and I saw that movie recently and definitely agree with your endorsement.
Exiting days with Luna, I think our anticipation here at BT is almost as big as yours.
I’ve heard a lot of good things about that movie. I think it’s going on my list of stuff to see.
Thanks for the update, keres. And tell Hector, that’s a fine name. 🙂
Pleasant dreams to you and all the critters.
It’s a bit colder than that here but we’re supposed to warm up tomorrow to the 40s. I’m ready for some balmy weather. 😉
What a cool feeling it is to know he’s gone and Cheney is a shell of man in a wheelchair…I guess he’ll whither away now that he can no longer feast on the blood of innocents.
I think we have to wait until 2:00 to watch Martha here on our local station, but I might be able to find it elsewhere on the Fios.
Well if you don’t see it, I’m sure I’ll be able to tell you all about it in great detail. 🙂
I’ll make sure I catch it. I want those cupcakes!
BTW, CBtE is off to NYC to see Phantom of the Opera today.
Wow, is that a school field trip?
Yep. They’re going to Planet Hollywood for dinner before they come home, too. He’s pretty excited, as you can imagine.
The sad thing is that they have the memorial service for the assistant headmaster (who unexpectedly passed away last Thursday night) this morning before they leave school.
Brrrr. It was 5 degrees when I got in the car this morning. The car wouldn’t get into gear but when it finally did it was with a big bump and shudder. I hope that it was only the cold and that I won’t be car shopping soon.
I’m hoping it was just the cold too. I’m thinking this isn’t the best time to be car shopping, finance-wise.
True, but there are amazing offers if you can find the money.
is up on the Martha Stewart website!
Including the vanilla buttercream frosting that I have been lusting after ever since we went to SR in November. I’m off to the grocery store for ingredients…
And Marlo was even cooler. You’d think that she was on national TV every day. 🙂
Dork that I am, I took a picture of the TV so I could post a picture of her on the show.
What great publicity for her shop!
Yep. And it sure didn’t hurt that the cupcakes all looked scrumptious, even to a non-sweet toother like me.
I’m (im)patiently waiting until 2:00 to watch it, and then talking CBtY into making them with me.
I think you’ll be really encouraged after you see it — she really made it look easy.
She was great! And I love anyone who thinks sifting is a waste of time and energy. 🙂
Off to the store for buttermilk and mexican vanilla….
I’m not sure about getting the Mexican vanilla at a grocery store — Marlo said it was really hard to find.
After you make, you’ll need to take pictures and post them.
I’ve already been to the Mexican grocery and back… success!
I’m so glad that’s the recipe she gave, because I’ve been craving that frosting for so long.
Excellent! You’re all set and I’ll be expecting pictures. 🙂
The cupcake’s “cake” part sounds nummy, but I don’t really like frosting, especially butter frosting (heresy, I know).
I was hoping the video would be on Martha’s site as well.
I’ve got it on DVD now but the segment is kind of long so I don’t know about uploading it.
I don’t like sweet stuff so none of it really appeals to me but I’m definitely with you on frosting.
But speaking of frosting on the cake, how’s Luna today?
Luna’s currently resting on the floor right next to me (extra, extra glommy). We’re about to head into town shortly for a bath, some shopping for last minute puppy supplies, a vet check, and finally a short visit to our friends at the nursing home. Luna will have to wait until the pups are weened to go back to our regular visiting schedule. One of the other Delta pet partners teams is filling in for us until then.
We’ve got 60-80mph winds at the moment, so I’m watching lots of dirt blow by.
Well be careful with your passenger out there in those winds.
Yep.
No to worry, I grew up with the Santa Ana’s I’m very good at negotiating gusts.
I just got my first lowered temperature reading. Only by .7 of a degree (99.3, down from 100), but if her temperature continues to fall to the 97-98 range the puppies will probably come tomorrow. Or, it could just normal daily variation. Frankly, I hope the puppies come sooner and not later. I’ll keep you posted.
Thanks. Tomorrow sounds like a fine day to have puppies (or the day after that or the day after that or …)
When we were all in DC last weekend, Luna and her upcoming puppies were a topic of conversation – we’re all looking forward to their arrival, I think.
Keep us posted!
I have the strangest feeling of being watched…
It’s like one of those paintings where the eyes seem to follow you . . . .
It probably thinks you’re to blame for the freaky white stuff and is watching to see what the hell else you’re going to get up to.
I’m really looking forward to a nice, long, warm walk. 🙂
Bummer is that it’s only lasting two days and then we’re back to highs in the low 20s and low in the low teens. 🙁
Woo-hoo! That means we’ll have slush today. 🙂
