Happy Friday!
this is the most adorable cafe ever.
And go back to sleep! (I hope you’re asleep and didn’t hear that.)
Hi Andi. I did go back to sleep, and then I woke up and read To Kill a Mockingbird for the first time ever. And now I’m starting to feel a little better I think.
and then did you put the book down and say “Hey Boo …”
sorry. couldn’t resist.
Heh. You were close, about 3 pages before the end, I said “Boo did it.” 🙂
I am in, I think, hour 116 of a killer migraine. I haven’t showered in days and I look like death. I feel like shooting my head off. But there was a random clap of a thunder a few minutes ago from a cloudless sunrise sky, and that cheered me up. And it’s finally going to stop being cold. yay.
I hope the migraine eases up soon (like instantly). It’s supposed to be 72 here tomorrow. I may go into shock.
Feel better. Spring is coming.
Hi Second Nature! Sorry to hear you’re not feeling well. Its not the former Mr. SN with a wax doll, some chicken blood and a hatpin, by any chance? Maybe you should consult a mojo woman? I hope there’s a lot more cheeriness in your life soon:-)
Thanks, ID. I’m impressed at your good humor this morning. (((hugs)))
Most of that ability I learned from my Mom. I try to remember & practice those gifts every day. Not always easy, though.
You know, for all of my craziness, I think that humor may be the most recognizable gift I’ve passed on to my children. It gets us through just about anything. I think that is far more useful than telling them to wear clean underwear.
Ouch. I’m sorry that’s dragging on for so long. Have you been to the doctor yet?
The theme is Book or Poem Titles. We’re sure everybody has a picture that makes them think of Gone With The Wind..
The diary is here.
Thanks for the puppy cuddles this morning, CG! I really needed that. Maya Angelou spoke at IU last night and though circumstances did not allow Mrs. ID and I to be there, I did see a write-up this morning in the Bloomington paper about her. She said something I could really connect with and since this seems to be a time of change for me, thought it might be a good line to adopt for a new sig.
That is a great sig line, ID. I always liked her saying about “When people show who they are, believe them. The first time.”
It seems like 2009 is a time of big change for almost everyone I know in one way or another. I guess handling it with grace and humor is the trick.
Erm, “When people show you who they are, believe them.”
Guess the flu is still fogging up my mental capabilities.
Here is the Cookie song. Looking through youtube it seems that no one who does this show actually makes the actors dress up like a frog and a toad. The production I saw didn’t either. That was a little confusing to those of us who weren’t familiar with the books but all the little kids in the audience didn’t seem to have any problem with it.
I loved loved loved those books when my kids were little and read them all of the time. They had such broad appeal for everyone and I, through my depressive fog, would chuckle a little each time. My favorites were Frog (or Toad?) being shy about his silly bathing suit…and other when they decided to hide out in a closet “being very brave…together”.
We had the most wonderful claymation video of Frog and Toad that I have watched with the boys more times than I can count. I found part of it on YouTube:
I wish I could find the rest of it: it had “Willpower” (about the Cookies) and 2 other stories on it too.
Good morning.
How are you feeling — is the flu beating a retreat yet?
Good morning! I’m feeling some better…a little stuffy, but no pounding headache or fever today. I think things are looking up.
And everyone here is up and about already. CBtY is looking like his old self, CBtE never got sick, which leaves us with the straggler who came down with it last…and he’s not looking as bad as yesterday either.
What’s up at your place this weekend? We have a CBtY birthday coming up on Monday, so I need to get ready for that.
Glad to hear it.
Just the usual “nothing doing” here.
Are you having a big birthday party?
We’ll have dinner and cake (actually, cherry pie is the choice this year) on Monday, and he wants to have a sleepover, but that’s waiting until next week when everyone is feeling healthier.
That was really good. In fact THAT makes me want to read the books. The musical didn’t.
I think I’m going to dig out the vhs tape and watch it for old times sake this afternoon. Best kids video we ever had.
You’re up early (or maybe you’re up late). Hope your migraine is gone or receding.
Nah, still got the migraine, and have been on a weird sleep/wake schedule of 3 or 4 hours awake and then an hour nap for most of the week.
Ugh. That’s just awful. Well I hope the approach (arrival?) of spring will bring some relief.
I think those books came out in the seventies after I was too old to read them and after I stopped babysitting. Although why I never heard of them from my cousins’ kids I don’t know.
Hope you start feeling better soon.
Hey everyone. It’s a lovely sunny Sunday here in Tassie.
I was outside playing with the dogs when I spotted this fellow – a Mountain dragon (largish image).
The Mountain dragon is the only lizard in Tasmania. Our other reptiles are either skinks (14 species) or snakes (3 species – all poisonous, but the little bitty one could never get it’s jaws open wide enough to bite you unless you offered it your pinkly finger).
you must have sharp eyes to spot him…he blends in splendidly with the rocky surroundings. And, just so you know, I’d probably never offer him my pinky finger.
I usually don’t spot the Mountain dragons until I’m right on top of one. They range from ruddy to slate gray in color, and do tend to blend in very well. Fortunately for me, they are not terribly shy and will let me get fairly close before bolting for cover. If the weather is cool-ish, they are fairly easy to catch.
About six months after I moved to Tasmania I found a small injured snake behind our rental property. I picked it up and put it in a box then called Imogen at work. The first thing I asked her was, “Are any Tasmanian snakes poisonous”? Her reply was, “All of them. What have you done?”
I like people who pick things up first and ask if they’re poisonous later.
I seem to have acquired a spice finch with a gimp leg and wing sometime in the past 24 hours. He can only hang out in the bottom of the cage while the other three are happily hopping and flying about. I guess we’ll have to make him a little habitat on the down-low.
What a charmer. And what a good disguise — like SN said I’m amazed you saw it.
Well, I dislike DST because I prefer brighter mornings, but on the positive side, the clock in my car once again is correct.
I don’t like DST either though I do prefer it to when we didn’t go on it and I had to constantly explain to people what time it was. And if we were on Central time like we should be, I wouldn’t mind it all.
How are you feeling today?
I am feeling human again. I’m trying to get insurance straightened out to visit a headache clinic.
I’m glad to hear that. I hope the insurance thing works out okay.
It was in the 70s yesterday — it was so nice wearing sandals.
It was nice to sit outside with my first cup of coffee this morning – the first time since the warm days went away last fall. As for DST, I have an intense dislike for just about everything our little weasel of a governor stands for. Glad you’re feeling better, SN.
Humbug (eight day old) and mum.
Squeak meets the alpacas.
OMG, that is so adorable it was worth being up at 3:30 AM. :0)
Glad I could make your insomnia worthwhile.
It’s nearly 8pm here (and today was a holiday so we spent the day doing things around the house). The sun has just set and a flock of six Yellow-tailed black cockatoos are flying overhead and squawking away as they go.
Wonderful pictures. Was Squeak impressed by big furry things that were even bigger than Mama?
