Based on the vote on this amendment yesterday barring use of the reconciliation process for cap and trade, I’m guessing that there is no way in hell that cap and trade is going to pass through the Senate. Way too many Democrats voted for the amendment to allow for any other conclusion.

that’s Ok, my kid doesn’t need an environment anyway.
But I have been astounded at how often the poutrage community will insist that “Obama needs” to do something that requires Senate approval and for which there is insufficient support.
It’s OK, this is too serious of an issue to handle this way. Answer this question to know why:
What if the market collapses or freezes?
Oh, it can’t? Oh, really?
While Cap and Trade sounds good, and I am up for the experiment, perhaps it should be concurrent with a compelled revenue sharing program between polluters that pools revenues and redistributes according to improvement relative to the other participants. This would encourage reductions, provide competition to do so, allow the market to pick winners and losers and doesn’t depend on speculation.
The key is the ability to choose the right standards by which to judge improvement on an industry by industry, scientific basis, instead of using Free Market pixy dust which may or may not involve reasonable judgment and selfish manipulations.
Or we could just trust the invisible hand again.
Cap and Share, baby.
