“why the fuck I keep fighting when we always lose” is one issue.
“why do i support democrats when it’s becoming quite clear they have no intention of moving a progressive agenda” is another.
“why do i remain in Philadelphia” is another issue.
and of course, “how will i continue to maintain my standard of living in the face of adversity?” always a big one.
“why bother to obey laws when none of our political leaders think that’s important” is an issue too.
frankly, i’m thinking of going into politics myself. I’m quite happy to enrich myself on the public’s dime, make a lot of promises i don’t intend to keep, and rake in the cash from credit card companies, the military-industrial complex, and the health insurance industry. all i have to do is get rid of my conscience.
any tips on how to do that?
Get elected.
Retirement. Can I afford it? Only if SS and Medicare are not screwed with. This indecision is causing a younger man or woman a job. I’d be glad to vacate mine if I wasn’t afraid that Congress and the President will screw me to satisfy bipartisanship.
While Obama seems to be making a lot of improvements in a lot of areas, when it comes to the Warren Terrah, he’s still Dubya.
My oldest son graduates next month with a degree in…wait for it…journalism.
He’s good, he got excellent grades, he interned for four summers at our local newspaper, but I don’t know if he has any hope at finding a job.
My middle son dropped out of a fully paid, free ride at college. Dunno what he’s going to do.
My youngest son is a high school junior, a music major, and his only hope for going to college is getting scholarships, grants and loans.
This occupies about 88% of my prime worry time.
Issues on my mind:
Shoveling truckloads of money into the financial sector with no visible benefit to the populace.
Social Security and Medicare. Am I correct in thinking the gov’t has borrowed from SS in the past?
Unemployment. And the (to me) un-American tax dodging and outsourcing by corporations, still ongoing.
Obama’s seeming desire to shove the Bush years under the rug. Wrong. I want to see all of them on trial for the war crimes Cheney has already admitted.
The wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. What the hell are we doing there?
Bombing from the air. Almost always kills more civilians, young and old, than the “intended” targets.
Marriage for all. What’s the deal with unequal treatment?
Health care. I don’t believe one of the insurance companies “promises”. They’re in it to make money, and they make the most when people pay for insurance but don’t get to use it.
I’ve got more, but I’ll stop now.
Unpacking.
Sorry – just completed a move!
But I moved right next to the subway here in LA – so my commute will no longer contribute to the pollution in the basin!
Health insurance because over 40 million people in this country don’t have coverage.
Energy policy (or the complete lack thereof) because that is the ultimate cause of the wars the US is fighting.
Afghanistan and Pakistan.
I/P and how I/P warps our foreign policy.
Health insurance.
How the banksters have perverted the economy and corrupted our legislature.
The economy and the unemployment numbers (U-6 @ 15.8%).
The bubbles and the stagnation of wages.
And, finally, health insurance.
…I have a small business employing 24 people and we are going down the tubes.
…No Bailouts, but with the banks not lending our big clients projects are all stalled. They are not working…we are not working.
…Mid Sept to now…eight months…little or no woek.
…Payroll every two weeks…rent once a month.
…Tell me how to stretch $3000 to $30,000 every two weeks for 8 months and you can save us all.
…I no longer sleep or eat.
…Eighteen fucking years and i could cry (so more)
…Fucking Bush is gonna take us out after all.
