This is a very special dog:
And this is a note from her dog-dad (who we all know as a Nature Boy):
This is Emma who received the most unfortunate news that she has a case of heartworms and will need to have treatment start in the next month after antibiotics and steroids for her breathing. I heard from my mother Second Nature that there were a few people that would like to donate to her treatment via paypal and I flipped out! I’m really no good at these sudden expenses and am considering a second job to get some quick money… but just look how sad and skinny she looks!
If you’d like to donate to her treatment that looks to be over $600ish, my Paypal address is rudie1@gmail.com πOh… and hello, I’m Colin.
And if you’re so inclined: here’s the donate button:
Good morning all! We’re a bunch of sleepyheads here this morning.
Not me. I posted my comment in the old cafe at 5:59:22 a.m. π
Thanks for doing the donation cafe!
And Mary’s here (well at the b&b but close enough) so I’m probably gone for the day.
Have a good one.
Have fun with your visitor today! If you happen to be in town, I’ll probably be around the yard sale most of the day. Be sure to give me a shout. If not, see you tomorrow.
Have a great time today, I SO wish I were there!
Would it be too much to ask for photos?
You might get feet photos of Mary, but nothing else. π
Ah, well. I’m sure the cafe’ would get even less of me, so that seems fair.
Hope you’re having a good weekend, luscious one.
As for me, I’m off to Dreamland. Maybe I’ll see Mary’s feet.
No but that doesn’t mean you’re going to get any. π
Neither Mary nor I like having our picture taken but I’ll take a picture of something of our adventures today to share with the cafe tomorrow.
Good morning CabinGirl! Got any fun stuff planned for the long weekend?
House and yard work today…I think I’m going to head over to the farmer’s market in a little bit. School project help for CBtY.
Tomorrow afternoon we’re going to have a few friends over for a picnic -bbq. Maybe a bike ride with my mom on Monday.
How about you? Got big post-yard sale plans?
How is the boy doing, Cabin? Is he getting plenty of bunny-comfort? And are you baking enough cookies? A picnic sounds great.
And more to the point, where are the bunny photos?
I promise we will take some new ones tomorrow AND post them. π
He’s perking up quite nicely, thank you. Cookies are on the agenda for tomorrow. π
So pleased to hear he’s feeling better, CG.
Thanks, everyone, for your help with The Sweetest Dog in the World. Yes, this dog hugs like a human.
I’m glad we found out what was wrong with her, though I wish it was something minor. She’s so skinny and her breathing was always labored. Hopefully we’ll see her fatten up soon…
Hi Emma and Colin! Years ago, when I was a full time city firefighter, we had a firehouse dalmatian who came down with heart worms. We were told by the vet to keep him calm during the treatment cycle. Ha! If you’ve ever seen how one of these dogs goes bananas every time an alarm hits, you would know what an impossibility that was! Sadly, we gave him to a local cattle rancher we knew and Smiley (the dalmatian) went to a beautiful and peaceful Florida country home, where he survived the treatment and had a long, happy life.
Hi ID. It’s nice to hear stories of successful heart worm treatment. I guess that pieces of the worms can break off after they die and travel to the lungs or other areas and cause sudden death…hence the keeping them quiet. I can’t imagine having to do that with a dalmation!
Once he was away from the alarm bells he was fine. It was just sad for all of us in the house who loved having him jump into the cab with us for every run. I also remember a few urban legends about firehouse dalmatians saving the lives of firefighters who got in trouble inside burning buildings. Thankfully, none of us ever needed that help, at least when I was there.
I found a Smiley photo from way back in 1973. We did a 20 mile walk-a-thon for March Of Dimes that day and got our mugs in the local paper.
What a pair of cuties! π
Aw, it looks like true love, for sure. I did one of those 20 mile walkathons back then too. My daughter recently did one that was 3 miles. How can you possibly stamp out birth defects only walking 3 miles? π
All six feet were pretty tired at the end!
That’s a beautiful picture, ID.
Thank you ww. It seems almost like another life now, it was so long ago.
What a handsome couple you made. π
Morning Andi, and everyone else.
Once again, we meet only in passing as Imogen and I head to bed.
Night.
I’m gone for the rest of the day too but I’ll be awake and with MaryB.
Have fun you two, and remember we want details!
Why, thank you Andi. Our last pooch was also a dalmatian – an uncharactaristically calm one who always allowed strange kids to give her pets.
I’m on Mrs. ID’s PC this morning, since it appears my old trusted friend is ailing. I woke up to one of those horrible “win32systemconfig is missing or corrupted” messages on my screen. I guess time will tell if the patient survives or not. This is NOT what I’d planned for my holiday weekend:(
Ooh, never a good sign. Best of luck, ID.
Oh Oh, it won’t even boot from a floppy. Not good at all!
I’m here at the F’s having a great time. Today I met Indianadem and Ms. I’D and that was so much fun. I really recommend a trip to Brown County to everyone.
I’m glad you’re having fun! I wish I was there too…who knew there was Chihuly in Indiana?
Hi maryb! It was fun meeting you too. Hope you had an enjoyable visit all around!

Fried biscuits? Like, deep-fried?
Hmm.
Yep — they are evilly wonderful.
Suddenly, I have this strange hankering to head to Indiana.
Unusually warm weather here. At some point during the night I had to push back the covers because I was too hot. I could cope if it were sunny, but alas, it’s overcast and a bit muggy. I much prefer rain or sunshine – it’s the in-between that gets me down.
It’s a long way to come but I gotta say those fried biscuits are worth it.
Or you could go for the peach cobbler instead and get your healthy serving of fruit.
Mmmm. Peach cobbler. You guys are making it very hard for me to lose weight.
Nice shirt, ID. π
Definitely a collectors item!
Well, it’s not feet, but any appendage will do in a pinch Glad you’re having fun!
Your comment to WW was the inspiration for this picture (well that and the biscuits).
Great likeness Andi! This has got to be some of your best work!
Thanks for the mini-meetup today. It was fun getting together with you and maryb.
The biscuits were pretty darn good too;-)
Thanks ID. I owe my great masterpiece to all to my muses — you, Ms. ID, MaryB, and, last but never least, the biscuits.
And never has an elected official looked so well-dressed and been so charming. π
Yeah, but you know how we lie and pander;-)
What a great shot! Wonderful. Much, much better than feet.
Glad y’all had a good time!
Whew, I’m glad you got here in time to see it — I was afraid Cabin Girl would do a new cafe before you got connected again. π
And fried biscuits are much better than feet. π
No worries about that, I’m a sleepyhead this morning. π
I could use one of those Fried Biscuits right about now.
Good morning all. It’ll be a (mostly) lazy day here. It looks to be a nice one.
Yea! Got Firefox installed on Mrs. ID’s PC. It looks bad for mine (also Mrs. ID’s office server). Guess we will be server shopping this week. Meanwhile, I’ll be spending much of my day off loading backups and doing program setups so her office can function tomorrow:(
Whew! Server back up running at 9:30 p.m. with a new hard drive and (I think) data intact! The data gods have smiled upon me today!
All hail the great god Binary The Two Faced!
Offerings can be left at your local e-waste collection site.
Which one?
Are you saying you have many e-waste sites to choose from, or none at all? If the latter, please contact your local counsel about remedying this affront to the deity (and the local land-fill).
We’re actually (finally) getting a proper e-waste recycling facility here in Slobart, Tasmania. And if the island-at-the-end-of-the-world (next stop Antarctica) can do it, so can you.
No … I was just wondering which of two sites I should make my offering to the Great God Binary at.
Forget it. Failed and miserable attempt at a joke.
Not so, you simply aimed it at a literalist – who frequently doesn’t get the joke.
But you always have the facts to go with the jokes — and lots of times those facts are way better than the jokes anyway. π
I’ll be making my no doubt substantial offering to the local High Priest of IT in a few days when the new server arrives.
His acolytes are multitude. Those possessing phylacteries for sale, the Hardwarians, demand much for their mostly empty boxes. The Softwarians deal out Arcana, both major and minor.
His most inscrutable adherents, known only by their first names, ply the rituals, which are only sometimes of any use. Their rites are cloaked by a language called “technobable” or less prosaically, “technical support”. Those incanting these rites often speak with a strange accent.
Happy Data Recovery Day to you! The bits and bytes are all doing happy dances. π
I am eternally grateful! I’ve also taken the precaution of ordering a new server. My old pal here is 10 this year and I think that’s about 150 in processor years.
hi everyone! any feedback on this would be much appreciated. hope you’re having a great weekend
I’m not sure what you are asking for feedback on. UN 2007 stories? Your top three postings, BooMan’s top three?
if there’s interest in putting together a series to cover the 2007 list. See what progress has been made in two years, if any.
I’ll certainly read it with interest.
Good morning all. It’s a beautiful, cool day here.
Hi all. In a little over a month I’ll be starting a new business doing home sustainability assessments under a program sponsored by the Australian Government.
I’ll be going into people’s homes and doing a detailed analysis of their energy and water usage, with a strong emphasis on reducing their greenhouse gas emissions.
The gov. will pay me for this, but I’ll be my own business and need a catchy name to market my services.
Well it seems like it ought to have either “green” or “save” or both in it. But it’s too early for my brain to function. Maybe after I have several cups of coffee something will come to me.
And mazel tov.
A sheynem dank!
I’m not to sure about the “green” bit because Greens are a political party here. And “greenie” gets bandied about as an epitaph by the less educated members of our populace (who want those damn greenies to quit whinging about all the old-growth logging and just leave everyone be to drive their four-wheel-drives and shoot things on the weekends).
“Comfort Zone” was my first thought. Because I really do want to stress that I’m not asking people to give up comfort, but rather to get “more (comfort) with less (energy)”.
“EcoAssess”, was another thought.
But I’m sure their are better ideas to be had.
Ah. Okay. No green then.
I like Comfort Zone but I think EcoAssess is too easily read as EcoAsses. Maybe EcoSave?
Oh, Yeah. Maybe not assess then. :O
I’m also thinking of starting an EcoMob movement. Mob as in mobilize.
The biggest problem people have with implementing change is a lack of people power and skills to make it happen. I was thinking of building a website that allowed people in a given area to join “mobs”, who would take turns spending a day at each other’s homes actually doing the some of the work someone such as myself might suggest. Like caulking up drafts, putting insulation strips and sweeps on exterior doors, installing pelmets above the drapes, changing to compact florescent bulb, installing water flow restrictors, etc. The small changes that can make sizable savings. The homeowner would arrange to have all the materials and everyone else would show up with whatever tools they were competent with.
This would be separate from the business. But it could have some overlap. If people showed up to mob a house I’d assessed, maybe they’d sign up for an assessment before their turn rolled around.
That does sound like a good idea — it could appeal to people who just like the mob concept and those who don’t care about the mob gathering but like the idea of doing good.
Eco-inspect? For green- name a tree, for energy – sunshine, flowing water or air.
That is really cool, keres! I keep thinking people here could do something similar, especially if they’re familiar with how to get the grants and stimulus rebates for green improvements, but your deal sounds even better with the government paying you to do it.
(ps, I agree with Andi about the EcoAssess name…too easy to misread)
Has the humidity arrived at your place? It’s really yucky here (but it waited till Mary left to get bad so I guess I owe a thanks to weather gods).
Damp, cold and rainy here…just like yesterday.
