Happy Sunday, everyone! I think we’re supposed to head out to DC later…
And I have my computer back to myself, finally. 🙂
Have a great time!
Good morning CabinGirl and boran2! Have a campanula glomerata to brighten those dreary monitors;-)
That is so pretty. And it does brighten up my dark morning.
That is gorgeous! What a nice start to a Monday!
How were the hippos?
You, know, they look pretty innocuous, but they can bite people in half…
I love the elephants. We skipped the pandas, and I don’t think they have komodo dragons at that zoo anymore.
Were they hungry, hungry?
Seriously, hippos are the number one animal involved in deadly attacks on humans in Africa. Who knew?
A few years ago at Disney’s Animal Kingdom I was on the safari ride that takes you in a big “jeep” through safari country. There was a break down up ahead and we ended up trapped in our “jeep” for 45 minutes next to the hippo pool. In the sun. The guide kept trying to get us interested in watching the hippos laying in the water.
If I’d known the hippos were dangerous I might have found it more exciting.
For a minute there I thought that story was going to be more interesting than it turned out to be. I think it reminded me of the stuck-in-the-jeep scene in Jurassic Park when the t-rex was trying to open it like a can of sardines.
lol!
Nope. Although it was suspenseful to watch all of the tourists in the jeep begin to turn on the Disney Driver as it got hotter and hotter. When the Disney “helper” showed up and started pointing to the hippos someone told her to shut up, we’d been watching those hippos for half an hour and knew all of their tricks.
It was one of the few non-perfect Disney experiences I’ve ever had.
I’ve never been back to Animal Kingdom since.
I didn’t mean to disrespect your story…because, as it turns out, that would easily qualify as the most exciting thing that had ever happened to me.
You might be able to get the same experience riding a city bus that breaks down. Just a thought.
But no hippos.
I don’t think they have komodo dragons at that zoo anymore
Somebody must have told them about the dragons being venomous. That, or they found out the hard way. =:-o
I still giggle every time I see Phil Bronstein (the former Mr. Sharon Stone) on teevee, because he had that mishap with the komodo dragon trying to eat his shoe-less foot during a behind-the-scenes zoo tour.
Dang, I missed that. Maybe it’s on YouTube.
Btw, I believe it’s a toss up as to whether the cape buffalo, the crocodiles, or the hippos are most likely to kill you in Africa – the record keeping being a bit lax in some areas of the continent. Any-which-way, as a general rule it’s best not to bother large wild critters, or the small ones for that matter.
Good morning, everyone. It’s a gorgeous morning, but heading up into H and H territory later this afternoon and for most of the week.
H and H = hot and humid?
Yep. 94 tomorrow.
Are both boys done with school for the year?
Just the older one…2.5 weeks left for the younger one (which is why I drove home from DC last night). I wish they were both done, but I guess it’s good that I have a few weeks before the invasion of the teenage boys is complete.
So Hopey likes to give the hairy eyeballs to kitties?
she was actually lazily following a jet way up in the sky…it was funny how it caught her eye and held her attention.
For our Hopey H&H was heaven.
When the ninty-ninties hit,
he’d be outside
belly up to the sun.
Did you know dogs can get skin cancer?
Well, my Hopey’s vulnerable spot would be her tummy, also. She’s always pointing that thing upwards. 🙂
Not only dogs, horses, especially gray-skinned and pintos types are very susceptible to skin cancer. Which is why some horse fly sprays now contain sunscreen. There are even sunscreen creams meant specifically for dog noses.
Dont’ they just lick off the sunscreen on their noses?
One would think.
A cutie twofer there.
Good morning all. It’s beautiful and cool here. We enjoyed driving our new/old car around this weekend. Imported from Utah.
But we need pictures. 🙂
Got one on my blog that I’ll post here later after I leave the scrutiny of my evil overlords.
The Mormon Mazda…I love it.
Here it is.
Very nice, boran2! I had an RX3 once with the rotary engine. It was a great little car, but I had difficulty finding anyone who would service it after the local dealership closed and eventually sold it. Hope you get lots of good years out of this one.
Thanks! This is a 2002 with 52k miles. It’s the 4th one we’ve owned, all bought used.
Just checked it out. Very shiny. 🙂
I just went to see the picture. It’s looks sparkling and gorgeous and was probably only driven by the original owner from their house to Temple square at a modest and chaste speed. 🙂
Or perhaps only to the library once a month to do genealogical research.
Fly-by hell to the Pond today. It’s an absolutely beautiful day here in the moutains, despite (or because of) a temperature of 30F at dawn. The air is crystalline & bright, full birdsong & the scents of lilac & cut grass.
I go out now.
Enjoy the day!
That shoulda read ‘fly-by hello. There’s not a whiff of hell anywhere here.
I miss coffee.
Hi ww! Hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed the cool yesterday here. Its now warming into the less-than-comfy high 80s.
I guess we’ll get more of that soon too.
Today was wonderful ’til about dusk, when the gnats came back after a few days’ cool hiatus. It’s springtime again.
It’s going to be 90 here today!
And then 71 tomorrow.
Good morning Andi and Jim up above.
It’s supposed to be in the 90’s today here too and humid. Don’t ya just love winter! I’ll be so glad when it is back.
Heading into the city today to get some new upper choppers. Now finally I might be able to shave off this big walrus mustache I have and go back to looking like I’m in my mid 20’s again. 😉
Ugh, 90s…not ready for that yet.
Good luck with your city adventures today.
Morning CG.
It’s not something I’m looking forward to because they have to extract a few more teeth before they can slap in the denture. Then I have to turn around tomorrow morning and go back so they can re-check it.
I guess after I get my teeth fixed, I’ll have to get George’s teeth fixed. Nothing worse than an old redneck looking dog. 🙂
But I’m sure that you’ll have a gorgeous smile when you’re all done.
Maybe it will skip you. And at least — here — it’s going away very fast.
I prefer winter over summer that’s for sure. But what I like best is temps in the low 70s.
Good luck with the new teeth. 🙂
Yep me too.
Well I’ve got a long way to go, so I’ll see ya’ll.
Take care.
but the last one for Jim until August.

Whatever will he do with himself until then?
I just don’t know. But being the determined fella he is, somehow he has managed year after year after year to keep himself very busy doing nothing. 🙂
Well, they say the three best things about being a teacher are June, July, and August.
He’s clearly a man who likes his job.
He used to be crazy in love with his job but I’m afraid that NCLB and endless administrative crap have taken their toll. Good news for me, though, because now I’ve been able to talk him into retiring at 62. Now there’s a chance we’ll get to meet you while we still have all our faculties. 🙂
Faculties are good. I can’t attest for my own quotient however.
Well I’m looking forward to getting to conduct the research on that issue for myself.
Let’s hear it for the end of the school year! CBtY isn’t done until the 17th.
It seems a long way away.
We had thunderstorms last night, and now it’s just a wet misty muggy day here. ugh. At least it will make working more appealing.
Good morning Andi and Keres.
Jim retire at 62? All those wasted years he could be slacking already.
I’m in for another fun filled ride to the big city to have my new teeth checked. And glad I am they will be checked. These damned things hurt.
So does anyone else have big plans for today?
My big plans for tonight are to sleep.
I hope they can make your teeth more comfortable.
That’s one thing I wished I could have done last night.
By the time I leave they’ll have them fitting perfect, or I’m just not leaving. 🙂
I hope it goes better than yesterday (well maybe yesterday went okay if the drugs were really good).
Yesterday wasn’t that bad and the medicine did help a lot. I guess I was just in a real whinny mood yesterday. I’ll have to see if I can out do myself on the whinning today. 🙂
Speaking of whining, the dogs think we should go for our walk in between rain storms so I guess I had better get myself moving.
Hope it all goes well today.
I’ve got a long drive in front of me and I’ve got to start getting ready.
Hope everyone has a most slackerly day.
Oh shoot, I’ve already missed you! Good luck today!
Good luck FM!
Good luck today!
CBtY has missed the bus for the second day in a row. I am SO happy to have to drive him down to school now…
We’re supposed to have a beautiful rainy day here today. 80% chance of rain. This sounds like perfect napping weather.
Yesterday’s dental appointment went very smoothly. I was only in the chair for about 3 hours and the dental student did everything she could to make my dentures a perfect fit. My next appointment will be around July or August which is a good thing. I think I need a rest from that chair for a little while.
Hope everyone is doing fine today.
I won’t know if I’m doing fine for a few hours yet — been up a good chunk of the night with a sick dog (Sniff) but he’s hasn’t been sick for almost three hours so hoping the only lasting effect is that I’m going to be very tired.
Morning Andi,
I’m sorry to hear Sniff is feeling bad. Nothing is worse than having a sick dog and they can’t tell you what is wrong with them. Any time this happens to George I worry myself silly trying to figure out what’s wrong.
Here’s to hoping that Sniff gets to feeling better and you get some sleep.
Thanks FM. Yeah it is hard to not know what’s wrong and to worry about how serious it might be.
I’m glad your second dentist viist went pretty good and even happier you don’t have to go back for a long time.
Yep I’m happy about the second visit also. I wish I had been keeping count though. I think yesterday was probably one visit in twenty that went smoothly.
Just think of it like cubs fans do when they win one game — it could always be the beginning of a streak.
Hey I know my luck and the streak that would get started would not be one of lucky.
poor Sniff 🙁
(poor you).
Give him some luv from me.
Not too tempt the Evil Eye but he’s kept down the light breakfast I gave him and we went for a walk and he sure didn’t act like he felt bad.
Good to hear everything went well FM. And all these trips to the city you’re taking should get you in the mood for a meetup road trip 🙂
Good morning, FM and Andi!
Up since 3.45 – ugh. A soft drizzle this morning – since last night, actually.
Poor Sniff, hope it is something that passes quickly.
And good luck with the new chompers, FM!
How have you been doing?
Oh – a bit pre-occupied lately. A long story which hopefully comes to an end soon. Been lurking, but not posting.
Well it’s always good to have you back.
How long till you go to Norway?
Not too long 🙂
I’ll go early July, the kids follow a couple of weeks later. Then curly joins us at the coastal cabin in late July.
It’s kind of silly but I always look forward to your trips to Norway — they always seem so wonderful that I find myself completely cheered by the thought of you and your family being there.
Well, we certainly find them enjoyable…
What’s great, though, is that the kids still – at this age – love to go to the quaint cabin with few facilities.
There’s nothing like a gorgeous location to make up for a lack of great plumbing. 🙂
I hope whatever it is comes to a close soon. I miss seeing you here in the mornings (although I’ve been kind of a lurker lately myself).
It’s going to take awhile to get used to the new choppers, but at least I’ve gotten something done now.
We’re supposed to get rain in later today. I think what we need is a full week of heavy rains. You know, biblical proportions, ark and all that stuff. Although I would be hard pressed to find a duck-billed platypus around here. Maybe Keres could help out on that end. 🙂
You’re busy building, then?
Remember a mate for George.
Poor George. He seems to always be forgotten. 🙂
Whaaat?
You never let him have any fun…
We’ve dropped the “duck-billed” part of the moniker – just platypus will suffice.
Our friends down the road (and on the rivulet where it actually has water in it all year round – unlike our place in the hills where only flows during the rains) have a resident platypus. But, I wouldn’t offer to catch it for you. The males have a venomous spur on their hind legs and it’s supposed to hurt like holy-hell if you get jabbed by one.
I’ve got to get clothes out of the dryer and get George outside.
See ya’ll later.
Happy chomping. 🙂
See ya later!
It’s so rainy and dreary here, I slept in WAAAY longer than I really planned too. Even so, it’s been pretty hard to get moving this morning.
