The Star-Tribune reports that Franken can expect a signed certificate of election if the Minnesota Supreme Court, as expected, rules in his favor.
After hedging for weeks about how he’ll react to the state Supreme Court ruling on Minnesota’s Senate race, Gov. Tim Pawlenty gave his clearest answer to date Sunday.
“I’m going to follow the direction of the court,” he said during an appearance on CNN. “We expect that ruling any day now. I also expect them to give guidance and direction as to the certificate of election. I’m prepared to sign it as soon as they give the green light.”
Yet, I am beginning to wonder about the eventual ruling, as the Court seems stuck on something. I expected a quick ruling in what appears to be a fairly straightforward case.
I am guessing that the court is being exceptionally thorough – knowing that Coleman might go crying to the US Supreme Court.
that’s what i think too. unlike most MN supreme court decisions, this one has a national spotlight on it, with some in the GOP already vowing to appeal to SCOTUS or start a separate action in federal court. the opinion they write is going to have a lot of scrutiny, not just now, but also during the confirmation hearing in the future whenever any of the current members of the MN court get appointed to a federal court.
let whiny Norm go crying all he wants to the SCOTUS.. my understanding is they are not going to intervene.
Maybe they’re following the example of their federal couterparts and wondering whether to follow the law or rule based on possible popular reaction.
Also I read last week (I think on TPM) that even though Coleman’s staffers are apparently jumping ship right and left, he’s raised almost $1 million in the last month…if true, I would expect him to take any opportunity to take the case to the SCOTUS.
he’ll probably need a stay.
Is this truly our last chance to kick Norm Coleman around?
Even if so (and I’m not banking on Pawlenty) you still have the option to donate a Dollar a Day to Make Norm Coleman Go Away.
Donations go to the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, which helps progressive candidates run effective campaigns and win.
