How could it be Monday already? I feel like the weekend was over before it got started – I spent Saturday evening and all day Sunday) with a break for a walk and the grocery store) working on a school assignment and quiz.
And I have to write slides again today…
You know those invites you’ve extended.
You’re safe. 🙂
Fortunately, we have very few of those critters here in sleepy Tasmania (and really, who turns their back on a kangaroo?). But if you venture onto the mainland, which has more species of deadly poisonous snakes than anywhere else on the planet, you’re on your own.
We only have three snakes on the island, and none of the them among the truly deadly ones. No crocs. No Funnel web spiders. No box jellyfish. No Blue-ringed octopus. And the water is too cold to worry about Great Whites or Rock Fish. Not because they won’t be in it but because you won’t.
Not Rock fish, Stone fish.
Not surprisingly, most tourists who get in trouble while traveling in Australia do so while swimming in the ocean. Why? Cuz we’re surrounded by it (and the surf tends toward the rough).
Jim doesn’t swim so he’s safe which once again makes the invite “unsafe” from having the Fs show up. 🙂
Well, if he doesn’t swim he’ll be safe from being stung by a platypus as well.
Ah, one more thing for the list of things to not worry about. 🙂
Since I grew up with rattlers, tarantulas and Mountain Lions, I’m not particularity fussed myself.
In fact, I’ve never lived somewhere where my ducks can stay out all night and not get eaten.
Good morning all. A beautiful day here.
Well it’s almost 24 hours later so it might be fruitless to comment on your beautiful day now. But I hope you get another one today.
Message from the forest: hey folks, lighten up! 🙂

I’m up early today: job interview at 9:00 am. Wish me luck. 🙂
Fingers and paws crossed!
Best of luck!
Good luck!
Forgive me for asking a potentially dumb question…
is there a way of using dynamic threaded mode on comments here? I have seen it at kuro5hin, for instance, an ancient scooop site :-).
Welcome MrPlow!
You have that option for every story or diary entry.
Pull-down menu just above where comments start.
Thank you, I don’t know how I missed that.
to set that as your default setting for viewing comments:
go to MrPlow’s Page (center-top of front-page) and and hold cursor there for the pull-down menu. Click on Settings.
At the top you will see: Interface settings and Comments settings.
Select Comments settings.
Find the box for “Dynamic Threaded up to:” and put a + there. Erase any other plusses.
Go to bottom and click save.
Good morning everyone!
Spectacular thunder and lightening during the night, but now clearing up nicely.
Too bad you were in town. I’ll bet storms up at the cabin are especially wonderful to watch.
OOoh, lightning storms are fun to watch. Except when they happen here, because they tend to take out our power. Second highest hill in the county…
When do you head to the cabin?
We’re leaving Oslo tomorrow, but will stop a day or two with another sister. Cabin Saturday or Sunday. The sister currently at the cabin said they had the same storm earlier last night. Power gone for almost an hour.
I think my interview went pretty well, should hopefully hear something by end of day tomorrow.
And I went to bed early enough to be up and well rested now. woo-hoo.
We’ll keep the finger and paws crossed here.
Good news!
Wishing you good luck, CG.
I’m trying not to be too hopeful, and glad I’ll know soon.
Just wanted to let everyone know I am getting an apartment on July 27th!!!!! I should hear from SSI/SSDI in the next few weeks about my case as well. I am currently taking American Sign Language to help my hands and will continue for the next 2.5 years to get certified as an interpreter. It seems I might be on the good side of the Chinese blessing/curse- “May You Live in Interesting Times.”
Yay! Woo hoo! Yippee! Yee-haw! Hope you can come over here for the celebration.
Good news all around for every Bootribber. It’s party time!
Maybe the proprietor will mix up one of those unique brews of his.
Thanks!!!!! I think an online shower is being planned by people and I will post details when I know. LOL They are saying it is for my rebirth.
That is great news, RF!
Great news, refinish! Thanks for checking in!
Hopefully your disability case will proceed more quickly than mine did. Total process took almost four years.
I am so glad things are turning around for you!
Yay! Huzzah! Mazel tov! Woo hoo! And every other exclamation of joy at good tidings!
I’m so happy for you, RF.
Thanks everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am overwhelmed at the great news and all that is going on right now.
I am also sending warm thoughts to all the froggies and that their lives are going great or will be soon.
That’s good news Refinish! Keep us updated.
Hi RF, I just wanted to add my kudos and warm wishes.
Hey RF, that’s wonderful news!
Hi rf69! Thanks for checking in to let us know about your new digs. Here’s hoping you remain on the good side of the blessing/curse!
The American Medical Association approves of the House health bill (pdf).
Olivia will post the diary later this morning. While you’re waiting, you can hunt up pictures for today’s theme: Green. All things green, even if it’s green around the gills, the green-eyed monster, your green thumb, or green eggs and ham.
Green around the gills? heh.
I wanted to be sure I covered a full range of possibilities.
How are you doing today — are you nervous?
I have a picture to post for that, actually…but alas, not publicly.
I’m a little nervous. Mostly because I’ve had some screwed up job experiences this year, where I pass the writing test, ace the day-long interview (according to the employer), and they can never follow through on the formal offer because Merck screwed them on 2 million worth of business (no, I’m not bitter…why do you ask?). I’d probably feel more confident if that hadn’t happened, but my whole industry has had a long slow summer, and the people who have been laid off are looking for work too.
I would just like the relief of knowing I’ll have regular work, plus my freelance work, when I come home from the beach in August. A little peace and sanity, please. 🙂
If I hear from them, you’ll be among the first to know.
Here’s hoping I get some very good news from you very soon.
Hopefully it’ll come through for you soon.
Oh great, one of the colors that I have trouble with. 😉
Oops. 😉
But look at this way — if you aren’t sure what the color is, green will definitely be a safe guess. 🙂
I don’t think these people are going to call me. blergh.
Chin up Cabin. Peace and sanity will arrive when you least expect it. Meanwhile, don’t let it get you down. Remember – you can’t always get what you want.
Everything will be fine, dear.
Thanks, Alice. I just feel like I’ve done my stint in underemployment limbo for the last 7 months, and I’d be happy to let someone else have a turn at it. Wouldn’t want to keep all the fun for myself. 🙂
If that doesn’t work, I’ll get a lunch truck and serve cosmopolitans at happy hour…
I’ll take six. Line ’em up.
oooh 8!
Since I’m still at the office … I’ll drink fast.
I’m way late for consoling (though I’m sending it on anyway). Should I offer you some hangover cures instead?
Heh. I drowned my sorrows in a virgin pina colada instead.
I’m over it. I’m cleaning and packing for the beach this week (along with finishing the slide kit I’m working on). A week of sun and kayaks and sand and ghost crabs and bicycles will cure anything.
Yep, the best cure for hangovers — and just about anything else.
And don’t forget your camera … I’m sure we’ll be having a Vacation theme Friday Foto Flogging pretty soon. 🙂
I’ll be wanting to operate my lunch truck there…I can just see it now.pirates and cosmopolitans in a step-van. 🙂
Lunch truck with booze at the beach — sounds like a fine career plan to me.
The dogs say another fine career plan is going with them into the woods. And it is … except for that no-paycheck part.
See ya later.
The no-paycheck part seems to go along with all my favorite career plans…oops.
Have a great beach week! The weather should be nice and mild for you.
Why don’t you come over for a day or two? We’d love to see you.
I can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to being there.
I’ll seriously think about it, but my car apparently has bigger problems than I could afford to fix…so I just fixed the most immediate and now I don’t trust it.
I’m even later than Andi, but offer my encouragement as well! Hope that dream job turns up for you soon. Meanwhile, have lots of fun at the beach!
Good morning!
You’ll be fine, CG. Enjoy the time at the beach.
Our experience so far this summer in Norway:
I’m sure you’d rather have blue skies but that one is very pretty.
Thanks, ask. All I can think about now is how nice it will be to run away to the beach and have some fun. That, and getting ready for my final exam on Saturday morning before we leave. 🙂
I hope some blue skies are headed your way soon; those look a little too gray for my tastes.
Good morning and happy weekend! We had a sad week here, as Mrs. ID’s mom passed away a few days ago. She had been ill for quite a while, so it wasn’t unexpected, but still tough for the family. She was a lovely soul and had been an elementary school teacher during her working years. Mrs. ID was her chief unofficial teacher’s aide.
Condolences to you and Mrs. ID.
Even when anticipated it is a blow and hard to accept.
But she had a long and rich life – time for rest.
Thank you ask. That is how we view it as well. Sunnier skies to you over there.
My condolences to you and Mrs. ID. One nice thing about being related to a teacher is that you can unexpectedly run into their students at odd times. The memories can go on forever.
Thanks maryb. My s-i-l said its tough to be an orphan at any age. We were very lucky to have our moms into their 90s with all their mental faculties intact.
So sorry, ID, for you and your wife. Many good thoughts sent from our house to yours.
I can feel them from here! Thanks Andi.
I’m sorry, ID. I know it’s hard even when it’s expected.
Yeah, my dad and I spent most of my first 18 years at odds with each other. Now I wish he was here sometimes to talk with. I mean, when one becomes an old fart, who then do we go to for advice? Thanks CG.
I’m sorry to hear of your loss, ID. Hope you’re both doing well.
Loss is difficult, but how lucky we are to spend the time we have with those we love.
You’re up cruising the internet late.
If you get back by, just thought I’d point out that we’re missing your pics over at Friday Foto Flogging. I’ll bet you’ve got some great green to share.
Well that will teach to comment before I’ve actually gone and looked at the FFF diary. 🙂
These things leave a big empty spot in our lives, but we’re lucky to have all the gifts our parents gave us through the years. Not the holiday presents – the ones that help us live our lives in serenity and peace and compassion for others.
So sorry to hear this, ID. My condolences to you and your family.
Thank you boran2.
So sorry ID. Condolences to you, Mrs ID and family.
Thanks olivia.
We saw a fascinating documentary last night called Genghis Blues about singer/songwriter Paul Pena’s (aka “Cher Shimjer” (Earthquake)) incredible journey to central Asia. The goal was to participate in a Tuvan throat singing competition. There’s some delightful footage of the people (especially the kids) and the scenery in the region around Kyzyl is spectacular. Warning: there’s one short scene of a ritual animal slaughter that could very well be distasteful for some.

Someone get Pepto on your lens?
In case anyone had any doubts – swine flu sucks. With any luck I’ll start feeling vaguely human again within a day or so.
I’m really sorry you’re feeling bad. I hope Imogen and all the critters are thoroughly pampering you.
