I’m off to start Day 2 on the new job…the first one went pretty well, and the people are super nice and the office is pretty relaxed. I also found out that I get paid once a month, at the end of the month…it will be a bit of a long wait, I’m afraid. :/
Still, I’m looking forward to Friday afternoon.
I had a job for a while where we were paid once a month. It was a little strange in the beginning after being on an every-two-weeks time line for my entire life. You really had to rethink how you doled out your money so you didn’t overspend and end up running short before next payday. But you eventually work out a system.
Today is my Friday. Looking forward to a four day weekend. It’s canning season so a portion of those days will be spent in the kitchen. Family reunion on Saturday. Maybe Sunday will be a day of rest.
It will be nice to just pay all the bills at the beginning of the month, but the wait for the first pay is going to be a bit long. That said, even once a month will be an improvement over the “when will my freelance clients pay me?” game that has resulted in me not getting paid for 6-8 weeks at a time.
Enjoy your 4 day weekend. What are you canning? We have late blight on the tomatoes here…yuck.
I’m glad that things are going well. Once a month is tough. madame boran gets paid on the 1st and the 15th of the month and that makes things a bit difficult.
Day 2 is now complete…it’s a long day. How do people sit still all day? I was climbing the walls by 3 pm. I’m hoping that part of that is the 9 hour day I put in today (I want to head out early on Friday afternoon.
I work 8 – 4, sometimes longer. I’m looking forward to the end of my term in less than a year and a half when I can again work at home in my sweats as Mrs. ID’s part-time IT support person.
I’m going to be working 8-4, M-Th, but I started on Tuesday this week.
We’ll see how this goes…I like the people, but it’s a long day after being able to get up and walk out to the mailbox, go out for a long walk at lunchtime, etc. I going to try squeezing in a little walk at lunch today and see if it helps with the stir crazy feeling in the afternoon.
Oh, Lawd.
Oooo… looks like an oweee for him!
Ouch!
We got our electricity back this afternoon after being without for 26 hours. Some violent storms moved through just before daylight and around noon yesterday. The whole village was dark last night. Hope all is ok with Andi & Jim down in their woodsy environment. At least they’re on high ground – no flood problem!
Hi ID.
We “beat” you. We were out for about 34 hours — got our power back after 11:00 p.m. It’s a competition I’d really rather not have won. 😉
Yuck. I have a feeling we’re overdue for one of those long outages…
We’ll be back August 14 with the same theme (Simplicity).
A vacation?
Nope. It’s “no power for too long, way behind on work, Jim’s got a colonoscopy, I’ve got a mammogram, no time to mess with it”.
Glad the new job is starting well.
Seconded!
Best of luck on those tests, Andi.
Ugh.
Good luck with your poke & squeeze twofer. Hope its not too uncomfortable.
ICK. I hope everything goes well for everyone. Maybe we’ll need a Friday happy hour for everyone who’s having tests done to celebrate the fact that they’re over.
Jim survived his ordeal. My boob-mashing isn’t till tomorrow a.m.
Are you ready for your first new job work week to end?
Totally ready. Windows still sucks, and I’m not used to having computer issues when I’m trying to work.
The office closes at 2:45 on Fridays, and I have an appointment in the afternoon so I’m leaving at 2:00 tomorrow. And, they’re ordering out for Indian food for lunch tomorrow, so it should be a pretty good day. 🙂
And a place that orders in Indian for lunch certainly knows how to keep employees happy. Have some palak paneer and naan for me. 🙂
I ordered Palak Paneer just for you. 🙂
Ooh yummy jealousy — well, if it was good.
Mmmmm. My favorite.
Did I say “Spring is in the air”? I meant snow.
I’m starting a course of antibiotics to try and clear the last of this lurgy out of my chest.
I hope the antibiotic works and very quickly at that.
So was the snow pretty or just a pain in the butt or a dusting that quickly disappeared?
It actually didn’t make it down as far as our place – it only dusted the hills above. We got bitter cold rain instead.
Well you probably don’t want to see it but I’ll bet those hills look pretty when they’re snow-covered.
Some people were still out yesterday.
Giddy explores some of the smaller stuff that came down on our place.

Glad you have it.
Wow, that’s a mess. No wonder so many people lost power for so long.
What did that sound like when it ripped through?
A huge howling train. Not a sound to gladden one’s heart, especially since we knew what was going to happen — no sustained big wind ever goes through without taking the power out; it’s just a given.
The first storm came through in the early morning and I didn’t hear a thing except some thunder that woke me momentarily. The second came through around noon. We watched from our office windows and I could swear I saw a little girl with a small dog go sailing by. Our power left shortly thereafter, not to return for 26 hours.
Wow.
Glad to hear y’all made it through safely.
Thanks WW. I’m guessing you’ve experiences a few bad storms during your time in the woods too.
To use an odd term, this is my ‘favorite’ bit of damage. It’s both dramatic and strangely beautiful.
That is bizarre, but very cool in a way. Since it didn’t hit your house or anything.
Wow! Beautifully surreal, to be sure. What excellent images!
I’m so glad that you stayed safe & your home didn’t suffer, so that you could appreciate the storm’s aftermath with serenity.
Indeed, we have definitely experienced some storms here. The most ‘dramatic’, for me, being the flooding of June ’06 in this region — absolutely devastating, with an aftermath that might’ve presented tremendous photo ops for me (if I’d kept the camera & computer thru homeless ordeal).
Good morning all! Its difficult to believe summer is nearly over and school will be starting soon.
Sssh. The Pack and I are trying to keep Jim from finding out.
We have CBtY’s high school orientation on Thursday night. I can’t beieve how quickly the summer has gone by this year. At this rate, 2010 will be here way before Im ready for it.
We’re having heavy rains this morning. No wind though.
The heat and humidity has returned here. 🙁
Which reminds me … I’d better get going on my walk before the heat does.
See ya later.
We’ve gotten some of your rain. I’m sending it back to you. 😉
We have pea-soup fog, and mud-colored dogs.
Winter seems to want to go out with a cold/rainy bang. Brrrrrrrrr.

Perfect for the new cafe! See you there!
Good morning, Andi!
I like that image.
Something else I liked – went with some friends for an outdoors concert last night – risky business considering the recent weather – but it turned out great with a clear evening sky. Venue was the roof of the new Oslo Opera, it was the opening concert of the annual Oslo Jazzfestival – performing was Antony and the Johnsons w/the Opera Orchestra. The stage was on a barge right in front of the lower sloping part of the roof.
