The media seems incapable of reporting on it, but the Progressives have grown a spine and are now a force that must be reckoned with.

I have a cousin in Arizona who went to a Town Hall meeting on healthcare last week, and she carried a sign that said, “I Support the Pubic Option.”
None of the wingnuts noticed the spelling…..
Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the center cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Why is it that only the Repugs can stick to a hard party line? Why is it that vacillating Dems always seem to lose public respect by appearing to waver at every opportunity?
when Obama grows one.
Hillary would have given up the public option before it was even out of her mouth.
But I agree. He’s got to learn the hard way that we didn’t elect him to be bipartisan. We elected him because he wasn’t a bat-shit crazy broad from Alaska.
Obama is my President. I want him to have the balls to stand up and be a leader – get the hell out of Iraq and Afghanistan and push a good healthcare bill through the House – if it dies in the Senate so be it. The Republicans and their fellow travelers, the “blue dogs”, will be responsible for it’s death. What he’s gonna end up with by triangulating will be worse than no bill at all.
Not so fast.
We have the power of numbers. What we don’t have is a progressive media with reach the way the right does. We have Air America and a couple of hours on MSNBC at night, which only progressives seem to watch. They have a plethora of not only right-wing radio and TV, but also a huge number of INCREDIBLY well-funded right-wing think tanks, lobbyists, and deep-pocketed CEO types who are greedy and support candidates who support their businesses at the expense of things like a “public option.”
We have diddly squat. There’s just a bigger pile of it than we’ve seen before.
Lisa is correct. We are the majority. Our mistake is in believing and feeling overwhelmed by what the teevee tells us.
As a wise man once said “Don’t let the bastards get you down.”
As a wise man once said “Don’t let the bastards get you down.”
You mean Bono? 😉
I meant Kris Kristofferson.
Late in 1992 Sinead O’Connor was about to perform at a concert tribute to Bob Dylan when the audience greeted her with boos and abuse because she had torn up a photo of the pope on SNL.
Kristofferson said that to comfort her as she stood onstage weeping. It was a revelatory moment about the behavior of mobs. Sinead had become a designated target for our hatred.
Here’s an interesting story. Check out the Youtube link.
Thanks for that. I wasn’t a fan of hers but never did understand what all the fuss was about back then. So she tore up a picture. I thought we prided ourselves for our free speech, especially at 1 AM on television. It’s alot like the “controversy” over the Dixie Chicks’ remark about being ashamed that Dubya’s from Texas (during a time of WAR and on FOREIGN SOIL no less!!!)
And about the YouTube clip of the original performance, where she tears up the picture of the pope…
Yeah lisa is correct. And don’t let anyone get you down.
It’d be nice if once in a while progressives would acknowledge that the Speaker of the House is one of their best allies.
