I’ve noticed an orange tinge to some of the trees around here on my lunchtime walk. I was surprised to see it happening so early.
Hi CG.
I wonder if it’s because of the cooler-than-usual summer.
That was my thought, because it certainly isn’t for a lack of rain.
I’m off to the salt mines…have a great day, and I’ll see everyone this afternoon!
Ack! Is that photo from this year? IIRC, isn’t leaf chlorophyll production tied to hours of daylight more than other environmental factors?
Lovely tree, BTW.
Yep. I took it last week over at Happy Hollow. It’s the only tree I’ve seen that’s turned (and last year it didn’t turn until early October).
I’ve seen leaves dropping already.
I can see the photo!!! The blocks are down!
Nice picture! I miss the Fall since living in So. California.
had pyometrium. Surgery went well, I just called the vet, and she’s doing well with coming out from the anesthesia, and hopefully she’ll be home tomorrow afternoon.
We’re wondering what exotic problem the little dog will be coming up with now, since she’s the only one who hasn’t racked up a huge vet bill in the last month…
Which reminds me, I must schedule Luna’s spaying.
I hope Gracie recovers quickly.
I think she’ll feel a thousand times better than she did yesterday in short order. Poor thing.
Poor thing. I’m glad the surgery went okay and I hope she’s up and romping around really soon.
Thanks. We’re trying to figure out how we’re going to pick her up today: we have midwife, dermatologist, and orthodontist appointments this afternoon, followed by back to school night at the high school and we have to work our CSA farm pickup into the mix as well…
How are your pack doing?
Wow, busy day.
They’re all fine. Giddy, who is 14, continues to amaze me on walks when she goes bounding off after some critter — though the bounds are slower and fewer than they should to be.
When my old dog would get those moments of her youth popping up, it always made me smile. I still miss her.
My day is so busy I’ll have to leave work early. No time for that stuff. 🙂
Hope everything goes well. See ya later.
Back from the m/w…I have proteinuria for some reason, but my blood pressure was normal. argh.
So, watchful waiting?
More blood drawn to get a baseline idea of what my kidneys, liver, etc might be doing. No salty stuff, including cheese sticks. Nobody’s supposed to irritate me or argue with me either. 😉
Warning that if it isn’t just a blip, I’ll be being told I have to leave work early and come home to lie down on my left side for several hours a day.
I’d never heard of this and went googling. Looks like it’s very good news that your blood pressure was okay and you don’t have diabetes. But I’m sure you know all this. Anyway, I’m so sorry.
It never happened before, so it may just be some weird fluke, or that I’m having spotty episodes of high blood pressure. I’ll just follow instructions and hopefully it won’t turn out to be a bigger problem.
Well everyone here is thinking (or wagging) good thoughts.
Wishing you the best outcome possible, CG. Also hoping the rest of your week is a little less frantic.
Oops. Not “should to be” but “used to be”. Of course, if Giddy might be thinking “should” since I’m sure she want to be off and running much more and more better than she can.
Giddy is certainly making the best of her mature years. It’s been some time since I had a dog who made it till old age in good health, and the Fates willing, I’m hoping to see my girls through to their retirement years.
Luna is currently teaching Lily the life of livestock guardian. It’s fun watching them watching the flock together.
Giddy takes 6 pills a day but it’s definitely worth it. I think the best thing we did was to get her on arthritis medicine as soon as she started having trouble.
Did you take pictures of the lesson?
I take at least that many pills a day, and I’m not even in my “senior” years yet.
Does Imogen coat them with butter so you’ll take them easily. 😉
No. I don’t even get a follow up biscuit.
Humph. That’s just mean.
The anticipation of the follow-up biscuit has always gotten the pills down the dogs with minimal effort.
Or a carrot works in the case of horses and worming paste. They print on the tube that it “tastes good” or is “apple flavored”, etc., but my horses have never eaten it willingly. I had a donkey who disliked wormer so much that I had to core several carrots and put small amounts of the paste inside each.
Giddy is kind of weird she takes her morning pills without any trouble but is a pain in the butt with the evening ones. There’s only one pill difference between the two and I don’t think Deramaxx tastes like candy so that can’t be it.
Good news!
meaning that one person around here is getting pretty damn close to being over the hill. ;P

That path looks very inviting this morning. 🙂
Even though it’s steep, it looks inviting most mornings — unless it has rained hard and it’s slippery as hell (and I’m sure we can work at metaphor for 40th birthdays out of all of that).
Geezerhood warning!
I’m sorry but we geezers are a snobby bunch and there’s no way we’re admitting some measly 40-year old to the club.
Oh, the disappointment at being rejected… 🙁
Some people have to earn geezerhood; some are born to it
Ask Andi about “altercockers”.
“Hey you kids, get off my lawn!”
I would think this would be a rejection that is greatly desired.
I’m 51 (for now). Do I get to play?
Got your AARP card?
Do I need it to get into the club?
Well, since its you, a free pass this time if we can sit around and watch you paint;-)
Never!!!
You’ve got the age but has boran boy ruined you for geezerhood. Are you able to talk about kids these days and yell at them to get off your lawn?
P.S. Don’t worry about AARP. We Real Geezers don’t need no stinkin’ AARP.
Yep, that’s a problem when you become a first time dad at age 41.
Love your two cafe’ shots here — & the differences between them.
Hi & ‘bye, for now. I’m off to work on The Project, despite threatening clouds.
Hi WW. That tree by the lake is definitely the odd tree out so far.
Don’t forget to take some progress shots!
Even a geezer can relate – sometimes you just can’t wait to put on that party dress. I love that tree – she’s one of those extreme radicals.
I think it just likes to show off — here it is last year doing the same thing but waiting until October. 🙂

Last year – this year, both lovely photos. Just too bad what’s coming all too soon. Nature is lying down to rest, while us stupid humans toil on at the same pace.
What’s coming all too soon are hordes of people jamming up traffic on 46, so that attempting to make a left turn from Mt. Liberty onto 46 is a good time to take a nap. But I suppose the townfolk are only concerned with their filthy lucre and don’t care how the country people suffer. ;P
Keep our county green – bring lots of money (then go home)!
Have you proposed that slogan to the chamber of commerce and the tourist bureau. I’m sure they’d love it.
Let’s see, the economic development commission is a hot potato right now – I’ll speak to them about it.
I foresee a great new career for you.
But, but… I had some serious slacking in mind for the very near future.
Unfortunately, some of us have already reached the crest and are staring down the other side wondering where the time went!
