When you are blinded by ideology, you can’t compute information like this:
U.S. states whose residents have more conservative religious beliefs on average tend to have higher rates of teenagers giving birth, a new study suggests.
The relationship could be due to the fact that communities with such religious beliefs (a literal interpretation of the Bible, for instance) may frown upon contraception, researchers say. If that same culture isn’t successfully discouraging teen sex, the pregnancy and birth rates rise.
Mississippi topped the list for conservative religious beliefs and teen birth rates, according to the study results, which will be detailed in a forthcoming issue of the journal Reproductive Health.
As you might imagine, pregnant teenagers have fewer abortions in the states with the most conservative religious beliefs. But, even after accounting for that, the conservative states still have more teenage mothers. It doesn’t matter, the people who could change this simply don’t care.
not a matter of ‘can’t compute’….more likely ‘won’t compute’.
Facts have a well-known liberal bias, and are, therefore inconvenient. This explains why Conservatives are Proudly Ignorant
No doubt that those same states have substantial support systems in place to assist those teenage moms. < choking sounds >
The ones that suck on the federal tit.
And yet their residents decry “socialism”.
I can bet their response will be “It’s the non-whites in our state having all the kids! So they can be on Welfare!”
Count on it in 3, 2, 1…
paging sarah palin…please go to a white courtesy telephone.
It doesn’t say if they’re married or not. Fundies would have no problem with teenagers getting shotgun weddings and becoming baby factories for a couple decades.
Perhaps, but when you are blinded by ideology you can’t compute information like this either…
Since the poorest states are often also the states with the most religious conservatives, and the wealthiest states trend liberal, I see serious cause/effect issues here.
There are definitely cause/effect issues here, no doubt…
Maybe, since these people probably need it as much as, or more than anyone else, they will listen to this guy about “socialized medicine”.
