If you want to know what the Democratic Leadership Council (DLC) thinks about the public option, make sure to read Founder and CEO Al From’s column in today’s Wall Street Journal. Then note that Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut was chariman of the DLC (1995-2001), as was Sen. Evan Bayh of Indiana (2001-2005). Sen. Tom Carper is currently vice chair of the DLC. If you take a look at the list of current senators who are part of the New Democrat Coalition, you’ll notice Kent Conrad, Blanche Lincoln, Mary Landrieu, and Ben Nelson are also members. Association with the DLC is no guarantee that Democratic politicians will oppose the public option, but there are no senators making problems about it who aren’t associated with the DLC.

No surprise since I always thought the whole point of the DLC was a wedge for the establishment to control the Democratic party.
How much longer can these losers stay afloat on the strength of their dubious role in getting Clinton elected? Whatever happened to “America loves a winner”?
They’re still around and they’re still a pain in the @$$, but thank God — they ain’t what they used to be.
They’re a herpes sore on the Democratic Party, flaring up on occasion, and apparently equally impossible to eradicate…
Clinton was elected because Clinton is a great campaigner. When Clinton said he felt your pain, you believed him. The DLC was just a stepping stone for him to become known in the party.
tom carper would rape a 5 year old child if the credit card industry told him too. he’s such a tool.
Transformational reforms have always passed with bipartisan majorities.
Is that true? Granted that could have been put there by the editors and not From. And does From address what happens when one party has taken a ride on the Crazy Train?
am house sitting so i’m a little late but wth- the dlc is one of the most pernicious and disgusting examples of dinos out there. their track record doesn’t even need to be displayed but suffice it to say that there is no way that they should even bother to claim that they are in any way – Democrats. it is these fools that have permitted the goopers to have the opportunity for an eight year block of time to destroy this country.I don’t remember whether you have ever attacked them in the past Boo but I applaud you for bvring this post out. I hope that you can follow up on this group of bottom feeders – everyone should wacth their fradulent behavior and then, just maybe, come reelection time, we can remove them from office.
