The butterflies are back, in the thousands.

We can’t go walking on our land without sending dozens into the air every dozen steps or so. They flutter just above the ground or flit up into the trees. Mostly it’s the male Common Browns waiting for the females, of which I’ve only seen a few so far.
An Australian Painted Lady in our native pasture grasses, which are very lush this year due to all the late Winter and early Spring rains.
Both the butterflies are gorgeous and wonderful to see. The closer February gets, the more tired of gray days I am so this is a fine solace.

I like winter but right about this time every year I start to build up a hunger for green and the bits of moss and ferns and pines and cedars that offer up nibbles of green just can’t satisfy it.
