Up for a little while with Finn, thought I’d post a new cafe before trying to grab another half hour of sleep.
How is everyone today?
Today I worked a bit outside before the weather turned distinctly unfriendly. Tonight we’re supposed to have a hard frost. I’ve covered the (pop)corn, but it may well and truly be the end of Fall and the beginning of Winter.
The big furry pests have already taken too their warm comfy beds. Hector is sprawled under the wood stove. It will be interesting to see if Lily wants out at 4am (when she usually asks [scratches at the door] to go outside for the whopping 10 minutes before asking to come back in again).
Ah the dog that didn’t ask to go out in the night — at our house, that’s proof (as if it was needed) that there’s thunder and lightning.
Lily was sleeping through till at least 5:30am, but then she came into heat and she had to go out every two hours to check for male dogs. At least it’s tapered back to the 4am outing the last few days. Luna, much to her chagrin, has to go with her just in case there really is a boy dog out there. Although the likelihood of there being a tall enough one to result in puppies is very slim.
Ah, the duties of motherhood — they never end (right, CG?).
And CG doesn’t even get the height differential working in her favor.
Good thing Luna wasn’t more accommodating when she was still intact or we could have had the world’s first litter of Jack Pyrenean Terriers.
I’m trying to picture that and so far I’m having a failure of imagination. But I’m still sture the puppies would be adorable.
Heh. So far, no end in sight.
Well, you can’t claim you didn’t know what you were getting into.
We’re having a bit of a cold snap here as well. I had to turn on the heat yesterday morning.
You’re growing popcorn? How cool.
Blue popcorn no less. They’re still pretty milky and pale blue kernels, so we need another week at least.
We don’t have a lot of water to spare, so mini corn cobs on small stalks seemed like a good choice this year.
We’re having thunderstorms and wet dogs. Just the kind of day that makes you want to crawl back in bed (without the wet dogs).
Eue de wet chen. Not a favorite, no matter what the language.
Shouldn’t that be eeewww de wet chien?
But of course.
or pew de wet chien?
Even better. 🙂
And my wet chiens say it’s time to go get wetter while the rain has subsided to a drizzle.
See ya later.
I’ll have to try it again. It’s been a while since I’ve used it.
It worked for me too! Thank you Omir, wherever you are!
Most definitely. Omir the Storyteller is Omir the Wonderful.
Plus, I really missed the frog.
Plus it’s all down hill from here.

Good morning Andi! According to the radar, we’re in for a soggy morning, accompanied by celestial crashing and booming. It does keep that lovely green around for us to enjoy, though.
We’ve got rain and 45 degrees. Endless winter. Sigh.
and 45º, b2. l’ve got 37º and snow…had 5″ last night as well.
jeezeus, it’s may 12th…endless winter, indeed.
Yikes! You win!
More a deluge-y morning than a soggy one. The creeks looked like you could run rapids on them.
i just discovered the true meaning of ‘hyperbolic pants explosion.’ it’s bad when you have to scrub the belly-button.
LOL!
Amazing reach…
Yep. Worse when it escapes someone’s pants while theyre sitting on you…
Oooh, I remember those days. Or when it goes all the way up their back.
You and BP together – where is the BOP (Blow Out Preventer) when you need one?
LOL!
Duct tape fixes everything. 😉
Well what a shitty thing to happen. But thanks for adding the always mounting reasons to be thankful we didn’t have kids. 😉
Awesome photos. That’s what morning should be like for all of us! Thanks for posting these, it made my day.
You’re welcome. And thank you for saying so. I do like to share my great good luck in living here.
I usually post pictures in the cafe on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Do I really want to know where, and why, Lily and Luna were digging a great big hole. How do I know they were digging a hole, perhaps it’s the I-used-my face-as-shovel look. Not to mention the paws. Really, don’t mention the paws.
One of our (no longer with us) dogs got so involved in digging after a critter she ended up with dirt packed in her eyes, nose, and ears and a sassafras root stuck in crossways in her mouth.
Now that’s dedication! I find the face-as-a-shovel bit the most alarming to see, because it usually results from back filling in on top of something they’ve buried.
The Pyr that dug the eight-foot tunnel (and then disappeared into it) in one afternoon is still my record holder.
Wow, that’s a Pyr who was born to be a civil engineer.
Speaking of Pyrs, they came in very handy for my latest captcha definition as you’ll see if you head over there.
😀
here at home before a meeting at the client’s place. I feel so much more productive when I don’t have to drive to work. 🙂
Maybe this could happen more often….
Road trip today. See y’all later!
Ooh, sounds like fun! Where you goin’?
Cape May!
Sounds fun! I miss the ocean. My parents used to take us to Jones Beach on LI’s south shore when we were little.
I grew up on the south shore. But that’s along way from Indiana. How did you come to move there?
My parents were early “back-to-the-landers”. My grandparents retired here from Hempstead Schools in the late 1940s, Mom and Dad fell in love with the place upon their first visit and we arrived in time for me to start 2nd grade. I had relatives in Garden City, Baldwin and Stonybrook that we would visit periodically, usually by train. They are all of the previous generation and gone now. Interesting, I currently have a coworker from Uniondale, so LI continues to haunt me;-)
Here are the LI Hillbillys a couple of years after the move. I’m the kid with the dog.
So why did your grandparents decide to come to Brown County to retire? It wasn’t exactly well known in the 40s.
My grandfather was an educator by trade, but an artist by avocation. He never told me, but I suspect the art colony was a big attraction. They would travel to the desert around Phoenix every summer, where he would paint and apparently they would take a different route from NY to AZ and back every time they traveled. They passed through here on one of those painting junkets and wound up buying 100 acres up by Bean Blossom Overlook, where he built a modest home for their retirement years.
Ooh, new painting inspiration!
‘zactly!
Can’t wait to see what you find to paint.
Hope you and the family have a great time.
Thanks!
This week’s theme is Create your own theme. Olivia will post the diary later this morning.
Off to the races for one more day…
I decided to take a “mental health day” today. If the rain disappears, there’s garden planting on the agenda.
Thanks! It’s off to a good start, dinner with friends last night, followed by sleeping in this morning until about a half hour ago.
How decadent! Have a happy day. 🙂
And it’s been followed up with a new teevee. Wow. The old one was working, but in shades of green. I can’t wait to watch Treme on it tonight. 🙂
All I need now is some cake. With non-diary frosting.
Happy Birthday! Hope there are some fun surprises in store.
Have the best day ever!
Thank you! We;re having a mid-day birthday dinner with the family, not sure what else is in the works, but I’m sure it’ll be fun.
Happy bday CG … Enjoy your day. 🙂
I’m having a great day so far. I slept late (so did Finny, and he’s already down for his morning nap again.). The sun has come back out, I got presents and coffee, and there’s more good food on the agenda.
Happy B’day CG!!!!!!
I hope you’re having a wonderful day and that you’re being pampered excessively. 🙂
Enjoy!
