We’re going traditional this year. Burgers, dogs, and corn on the cob are going on the grill. Traditional potato salad. And then some fireworks. Finn tried out his high chair for the first time today and after his nap is over he’s going to try his first solid food: pureed carrots.
What are you up to?
Get the camera ready for those carrots.
I’m thinking youtube… 🙂
Happy fourth! I made watermelon lemonade too…think I might spike mine.
Looking forward to the YouTube! We had all 3 grandchildren over for the night Fri. The littlest guy is soon to be 5, so no more fun baby stuff for us, at least for now. The oldest is 12 and just beginning to slip into teen angst mode.
Sounds like a fun weekend, if maybe a little hectic with 3 kids (oh wait, I have 3 kids – what am I saying?). Is the 12 year old a boy or a girl? I think 13-14 was the worst age for the CabinBoys.
Boy. He has been accepted to International School beginning this fall, so will probably be way too busy to indulge in a lot of sulking. He loves to do (heh) drama, sports and all the academic stuff, at least at this stage, so he should be right in his element. He’s such a nice kid, though, that even a little sulkiness is tolerable.
Just returned from picking blueberries. Next on the harvesting agenda, string beans are ready out back. I’m in cooling off for a few minutes. The car mirror thermometer registered 102F (in the shade) when I got in to go for the blueberries.
We did our cookout and fireworks last night at my old fire station with some of the firefighters and their families. Tonight we’re staying in, where its cooler and less humid, for a movie or two.
The heat and humidity have been rolling in all day. I think we’re in for a hot week.
My wife and I volunteered all day at an art fair, hauling trash and other stuff. Came home to clean up and decided not to go to the concert and fireworks, we are too comfortable to go back out into the heat…89 degrees here in west Michigan.
i paraded this morning, and then played some more in a “battle of the bands”. Much fun! I went to a friend’s bbq and then remembered that he’s a non-drinking friend and came home for beer.
mmm, sounds fun. Especially the beer.
catching up on my tivo.
in Madison from Tenney Park near my old home. Saw my old home and tsk-tsked that the owners got rid of the overgrown tree after my downstairs neighbors and I left the place. Now there’s sun for vegies there. Said hello to old neighbors and caught up on stuff. Slathered on enough Off to make sure those skeeters wouldn’t bite this year, and guess what, they did. On my untreated torso.
Getting drunk? What else? A bunch of lame fireworks, but enough that they were nice to watch; not sponsored by the county, but by the individual. So as far as that goes, it was awesome.
Happy Fourth, from the hater of nationalism and some patriotism:

Bleh, fucking code. And I can’t edit it. Oh well…
I spent the day with my best friend of over 31 years. He and his mate have been together for 20 years this year, but they still can’t get married.
On my 18th birthday, my friend created a wonderful party on his roof in New York for me. 26 years later today, we recreated it on our now mutual roof in California, complete with good food, champagne and fireworks. It was a strange loop in time and another fabulous birthday.
Went to Champaign-Urbana to visit my 20 YO twins, and took all (wife, oldest child, 2 younger, myself) on a canoe trip from Kickapoo State Park in Illinois. We do a canoe trip every year, and it is a good family tradition. I can still remember the first time – we were in Ontario in Algonquin State Park and I rented a canoe to take the family out on the lake. The 20 YOs were at that time possibly 3. The youngest girl screamed the entire time. When we docked, she said “Can we go out again?”
Canoe trips are fun.
