One day down, 4 more to go this week. I just wish we could get a break from the humidity and heat for a bit.
What’s doing in everyone else’s neck of the woods?
Nothing but complaining about the weather.
I guess that means we have some more hot and sticky weather coming our way, huh? :/
Ugh. This has been an awful summer weather-wise.
Icky, but the garden seems to be loving it!
So does the lawn. 🙂
Those look ready to eat.
Did you get the sunshine thunderstorm yesterday or was that a very localized phenom?
Got a bit of rain last night around 7:30, but it didn’t last long. Its coming down again here this morning. The radar shows it should be moving on soon, though.
The thunderstorm with the sun shining was about 5:30 p.m. yesterday. it was really weird.
Blueberry muffins sound really good. 🙂
Yummy, but no comparison to fried biscuits.
True, though a there’s a coffee shop in Wakefield, MA that makes blueberry cornmeal muffins that are pretty damn close.
I really want to try those out. They sound fabulous. 🙂
I have it on good authority that I am strange because I’d prefer the blueberry muffin over fried biscuits.
Well, my mom used to say that everyone living here was just a bit strange. Makes the place much more interesting, IMHO;-)
I’ve picked 3 times and gotten nearly a gallon of blueberries from 3 bushes. Good with yogurt for breakfast and in muffins, too!
Yum! We had blueberries for the first time in the U-pick garden this year at our CSA farm. Fun!
Wow! We’ve gotten little to show for our efforts. One grape tomato and another ripening. Nothing else is fruitful. 😉
On the downside, tomato blight has murdered all my summer squash. Funny, I didn’t know tomato blight would attack squash, but my diagnosis comes from a farm lady much more experienced than I in these matters.
Blossom end-rot is a big problem for tomatoes here this year. We’re eating a lot of golden tomato varieties this week because it’s a iger problem for red tomatoes.
Squash seems to be going gangbusters though. We have extra!
That’s early. Ours is just blooming.

Lovely shot! Makes me think of one of my early Heinlein sci/fi favorites, the “Green Hills Of Earth”.
Never read that one and I never realized that he wrote poetry either.
I really like the pairing of that poem with Andi’s picture.
Oh, what lovely humps…
In Vegas for Netroots. I will be taking lots of photos and will post some when I get a chance. Hope everyone is doing well.
say hi to everyone, this is the first one I’ve missed. But we’ve got a little guy who doesn’t want to go on a plane yet.
I hate that you aren’t here but understand.
How does he know he doesn’t….
swimmer did her first trans-atlantic at 4.5 months.
Slept all the way.
Please do – and provide their handles, unless they object.
I will. I also plan to take some of the sites and politicians of course. LOL
Hope you have a great (and useful) time. Looking forward to the pictures.
I’ve been to two of them including Pittsburgh last year. Have a great time! I’ll be there next year in Providence!
and the air feels heavy enough to push you to the ground. I really hate this localizing of the global warming.
Yeah, I thought, who left the electric blanket on all night and soaked it through as well.
The premier of the Brown County Radio Hour show on WFHB community radio airs live today at noon. We’re going to try to make it to the temporary studio at the old hardware store building near the library to see our friend Pam, the volunteer producer, perform her task for the first time. At least its an indoor activity. I don’t even want to think about the traditionally hot & sticky county fair next week.
I got the podcast. We’re heading over to Cincy today so we’re going to listen to it on the drive.
My sympathies on the fair booth time.
The premier was fun and there was a lot of good-natured suggestions for improvement. I was surprised to find a friend there who was the poetry reader near the beginning of the program with the deep, resonant voice. He had never done anything remotely close to that before and seemed to be pleased with the way it came across on the radio.
We enjoyed it a lot — everything worked very well and the ‘what the hell’ segment was really funny. Our only criticisms was that some of the banter felt forced and that the soundscape interludes (the rain and the bullfrogs) went on a little long.
I heard a few people say after the show that they would like to hear a little more music and a bit less talk.
Personally, I think the hillbilly act could be toned down somewhat as well.
I liked the ‘talking’ segments, except for the interview with the artist.
It already feels like 93 outside this morning with all the humidity. ugh.
Mid 90s today and my second bout of poison ivy this season. Hard to believe but I really can’t wait for the fall.
Hi everyone, I’m new here . . . well really new to any community blog. 🙂
I see the topic is trending towards the weather. I will just say I live in Florida and I would LOVE a day where it only reaches 93. 🙂
The picture at the top by CabinGirl is very refreshing though. 🙂

The summer pace is a bit slow, however the pond illustrates on a daily basis people who love life and respect one another. Political discussion can be a bit rough around the edges, but a liberal should just feel at home by the frogs in BooMan’s pond. Nice first diary!

Welcome wagon and FBL diaries
"But I will not let myself be reduced to silence."
From the archives. We need a new Wednesday Welcome Wagon.
Welcome to the cafe. We’ll be looking forward to you dropping by and chatting with us.
I admit I’m a wuss when it comes to hot weather, even though I live in Indiana where the norm is hot and humid summers (but not this hot for so many days).
Welcome! And I feel an instant kinship with you due to your name…which I’ll likely explain at some point. 🙂
Adding my welcome to you. As a former Florida gal who moved from one extreme to the other (MN) I must say there’s always worse weather somewhere. Now I know why I should have stayed on the coast.
Wait ’till you meet Mannee – he lives in a place that gives me the real shivers – Arizona.
Have a good time, and thanks for the perfect sig. line.
.
Is at home.
BTW Your real shivers weather wise or else?
"But I will not let myself be reduced to silence."
Thanks for the welcome! You know it does feel like we’re hanging by a pond. 🙂 oui thanks for the compliment. 🙂
I look forward to hearing the kinship story with my name. 🙂 and Minnesota–yeah, that is an extreme–i do not think I could handle those winters–bravo to you! :). Is anyone here into Fantasy reading? I hesitate to say anything, because I’m not a D&D superfan–but I do LOVE reading and discussing books and currently I’m re-reading Robert Jordan’s “Wheel of Time” series. Anyone else here a fan? 🙂
Hello and welcome!
I’m also a Jordan fan and am currently finishing up the Phoenix series from Lackey/Mallory. AndiF recommended the bio of this author to me some time ago and I found him/her to be a very enjoyable scifi-fantasy read. The bio itself of a woman writing as a male scifi author is fascinating.
I spent 11 years in first the Orlando suburbs, then Indian River County and find summer weather to be quite similar both there and here in southern Indiana, where I now reside.
And now a little something to commemorate your debut here at the Frog Pond.
I read more scifi than fantasy but in fantasy I tend to avoid endless series and go for authors that either do standalones or shorter works — some authors I like include Martha Wells, Jo Walton (especially “Tooth and Claw), Ian McDonald, Suzanne Collins (her Hunger Games trilogy is classified as young adult but I think that’s partially because Harry Potter made YA good marketing), and Keith Donohue.
Thanks. 🙂 I tried Lackey back in the day, but didn’t get into her. Since then, the only fantasy I’ve read has been Jordan (and of course Tolkein)-but I’ve recently become a fan of LeGuin through some short stories–so I’m willing to try out your suggestions. 🙂 the woman writing as a man is very George Elliot, no? 🙂 oh, and I actually have pre-ordered Brandon Sanderson’s new book to give it a try. Not enough time and too many books. LOL 🙂
We’ve found our local library is quite receptive to purchasing books we suggest if they think they are good fits for the collection. Also, we use the inter-library loan system if we need to finish a series with a book they’re missing. It helps that Mrs. ID volunteers there, though:)
