Someone’s delusional. The GOP is not trying to attract the Latino vote. They’re doing their damnedest to turn the Latino vote into a reliable part of the Democratic base. The Democratic Party has not always been the best friend of black folks, but it has a long record of being the party of immigrants. Immigrant-serving political machines have always been a Democratic phenomenon. Each wave of immigrants has come of age politically through the Democratic Party. Latinos might have been different. Machines are on their way out, and Latinos tend to share some of the culturally conservative values that Republicans espouse. But, then, so do Muslims, and you won’t see too many of them voting Republican any time soon. It’s a funny thing. People don’t vote for political parties than demonize and vilify them.

At least the Dems don’t target you for being brown–we’re all in the same boat as long as we can avoid racial/religious profiling.

There’s little doubt that Shrub’s appropriation of Latino causes — limited as it was — came from Karl Rove. If nothing else, Rove is a pragmatist, loves demographic details, and sees the handwriting on the wall.
The lack of pragmatism by Repubs, the focus on short term gains from the teabaggers, is our benefit. When economics and jobs are staggering, just say thanks for it.
The Republicans have the nonsensical idea that undocumented workers have been voting in elections in states with names like California, Nevada, Arizona, Nuevo Mexico, Texas, Florida. So their plan is to deport Hispanic voters from those states using the absence of documents as an excuse. Or at least keep them from showing their faces at the polls.
Just think. Pretty soon they will be complaining about an organization named BELLOTA registering undocumented workers to vote.
