We went to celebrate a relative’s sixty-fifth birthday and had a nice afternoon with good food and friendly games of backyard volleyball. But when we came home, one of our dogs had passed away in his crate. He was an Australian Shepherd named Dumbledore, just shy of 10 years old. Even though he has occasionally suffered mild seizures since the time he was a pup, we had no advance warning that he was ill. He seemed himself this morning. So, we had to take him to the vet and say our goodbyes. He went peacefully, probably in his sleep. We’re grateful for that. But we’re very sad to have lost a good and loyal friend. He was a sweet dog with a kind heart and a legendary appetite. We will miss him.

My condolences on your loss.
who slept at the foot of me bed, and whose ‘secret Indian name’ was “There might be food”.
What a shitty evening we’ve had.
It’s really hard to lose a furry friend. Condolences to everyone in the Cabin.
awww CG, my heart goes out to you and the rest of the CabinFolk. They are such a big part of our lives – truly family.
I was thinking of you and Bud last night. It’s so hard when it’s so unexpected.
I am deeply sorry for both of your loss.
RIP Dumbledore.
I hope you can soon remember the good times you had with him with a smile. He seems to have had a good life and that’s something you can be proud of for yourself and your family.
I’m so sorry to hear about your loss.
What a shame! Our pets are family, and their passing leaves an empty space in the house and in our hearts.
Jim, The Pack, and I send our sympathy but also joy for Dumbledore’s very good life.
So sorry to hear.
Sorry to hear about your loss. We still miss our Maggie, even though its been over 10 years since she was with us.
Condolences to you both and to the kids, who also must be suffering with sadness.
So sad for your loss.
Sorry for your troubles, as the Irish say.
Rest in peace Dumbledore. Sorry to hear of your loss.
Nor dread nor hope attend
A dying animal;
A man awaits his end
Dreading and hoping all;
Many times he died,
Many times rose again.
A great man in his pride
Confronting murderous men
Casts derision upon
Supersession of breath;
He knows death to the bone –
Man has created death.
– WB Yeats
How very sad. Our thoughts are with you and the family. I look at our dog every day, her face now a shiny, silvery gray. She has trouble at times getting up and down. After taking a couple of tumbles down the steps, she has finally given up trying to get to the second floor; where she loved to act as a sentinel from the spare bed while we were at work all day.
Her days, too, are likely numbered. But here eyes still light up when the harness and leash come out for a walk. And the puppy in her still bubbles to the surface when the tennis ball is rolled her way. We will enjoy her to the end, as you did your loyal friend. May he rest in peace.
My deepest sympathy for your loss, Booman.
I’m so very sorry.
I’m sorry. Our pets are definitely family.
We all share your sorrow. I know the sudden shock is too hard.
My dear departed catahoula hound had the same secret name. I’ve asked her to watch for and take care of Dumbledore. Give yourselves time to recover.
Very sorry for your loss. Unfortunately this kind of thing happens in people with seizures:

I didn’t know it happened in dogs. But it sounds like that’s what this was.
damn, that’s hard.
my sympathies and condolences to all of you.
It’s so hard to lose one of our “fur babies”.. He’ll be waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge.
