Can’t believe I’m up this early after multiple nights of teething babyness. And headed off to the office shortly too.
So much for feeling refreshed by vacation. 🙂
In other news, CBtE will be 18 on Friday. Where did the time go?
I remember those days. The teething that is. This too shall pass, but you already know that. For us it’s braces and more braces yet to come. Sigh.
For what it’s worth, the relief when the braces are paid for (and off the teeth) is really quite an accomplishment. I was so happy…and look, I’ll probably get to do that one more time. 🙂
When do you head out on vacation?
As I recall my teenage years, paying for braces were the least of the pain I brought my mother. 😉
Well, I spent about 30 minutes yesterday following several hundred pregnant ewes about two kilometers down the road to their new pasture. Good thing I wasn’t in a hurry.
And with all that time, you didn’t take any pictures? 🙁
Speaking of pictures, does anyone have any recommendations for a point and shoot digital camera with some manual controls? I’m looking for a birthday present for someone…
The higher end Canon p&s have manual controls for things like shutter, aperture, and focus. I’ve got the G9 (newest equivalent is the G11) and that’s what I use for all my photos. They have less expensive ones in this type that also have manual controls. Look at the High End cameras at the top of this page.
I know, I was definitely regretting leaving my camera at home.
She’ll always be a bright light for us.

Ohh – so sorry, Andi (and Jim).
My condolences. She’ll be missed well beyond your woods, but what a beautiful way to remember her.
Oh…so sorry Andi and Jim. She was such a sweetie.
Thanks ask, Alice, SN, and Errol. As SN said, she was a sweetie*.
* Bebo has a slightly different take on that.
oh, Andi. My heart goes out to you, Jim and the rest of the pack. A beautiful and fitting picture to remind us all of the wonderful times we were able to see Giddy exploring your enchanted forest.
A bright light indeed. So sorry for you both.
Oh Andi and Jim, I’m so sorry. It’s so hard to lose an old friend.
Thanks Manny, keres, and CG. I know all three of you have been through this too (it’s been so little time for you two — Manny and CG) so I’m sure the pain that Jim and I are feeling is all too familiar. But — pardon my sappiness — having gone through this now 5 times, I’m completely certain this bit of pain is more than compensated for by getting to share my life with such wonderful companions.
So sad. Condolences from both of us. We still miss our Maggie even though its been many years since she left.
I’m so sorry to read this. Condolences to you and Jim.
Thanks to all of you. Andi and I have been fortunate that so many wonderful dogs have been a part of our lives.
My condolences to the F’s. It’s been a rough year for BooTrib pets.
Sorry to hear about Giddy. I have no doubt she contributed great joy to your lives.
I forget the source now, but in a discussion of dog lifetimes vs human lifetimes, the youngster was reported to have said, “… dogs don’t live as long as people because they know how to love from the time they’re born. But it takes people a little longer…”
Makes sense to me.
Smart kid –I like that idea.
I like that too.
But I wonder what that says about cockatoos.
Well I don’t know any cockatoos personally but based on the turtles and tortoises around here, maybe some critters need to live a long time because they’re really slow about finding someone to love.
Their shells probably present some intimacy issues.
The cockies around here seem pretty snippy with each other. But they do travel in flocks, so they can’t be too adverse to each other’s company. Babies and youngsters sure get a lot of parental attention, mostly it seems, to get them to shut up (they make a sound akin to a table saw with a stutter).
Very sorry to hear. My condolences. The photo is beautifully evocative.

I like Frederica Wilson’s style. I hope she wears that hat all over Washington DC next year. Congratulations to her. She will be unopposed in November.
I wish I had the self-confidence to pull off wearing a hat like that. I suspect she’s going to be able to handle congressional politics just fine.
Indeed! love the hat! and an impressive record!
Puts my collection of baseball caps and crush hats to shame. Even though the whole in the ozone layer is getting smaller, we’re still under it, so I almost always were a hat.

Gorgeous, as usual. I can’t believe it’s already Wednesday.
Thanks for the camera suggestions…I think the G11 is a little more than he needs at this point, so I think I’m going with something like the SX120 IS.
And hey, I think Finny only woke up 3 times last night-a huge improvement. 🙂
Glad to be able to help. The Panasonic Lumix series also cameras with has manual controls; I’ve heard pretty good things about them but don’t have any personal experience.
Well maybe Finn’s about to be over the (tooth) hump too.
“Lovely, dark & deep…” and a day full of lovely appeals hearings for me:(
Gee, wish we could be there — seriously (sort of), Jim and I were thinking maybe we should do something about ours after the next one because we think it’s too high.
Land prices here are much higher than most other counties our size and since the switch to market value assessment in 2002, our overall prices have risen considerably. However, if ones’ acreage is reclassified as a tree farm, some serious reduction in assessed value can be realized. Call for details;-)
Thanks. We’ll probably make that call.
Ask for me when you do.
I definitely will.
That really makes me want to climb to the bottom to see what’s there. And I covet your shade.
I wish I could think of a way to share — shade is something we’ve got in abundance.
(You’ll find a pretty hollow with even more shade and a rocky, very dry creek.)
Sounds like a pretty spot.
Its really not too far out of the way for a person traveling from NY to NM;-)
Heh. It is when they lose your luggage. Actually it was found. In Atlanta. Sigh.
Oh, that would never happen here!
Oh geez. Will you get it back before you go home?
They delivered it to us. Good thing, my one pair of shorts was getting a bit stinky.
Well now that you’ve got non-stinky shorts, I hope you are off having a great time — taking lots of photos for us. 🙂
But of course! 😉
Where have you been?
Where are you going?
If you are in Albuquerque and haven’t taken the tram yet, it’s worth the money — we timed it so so we could spend sunset on top which was icing on the cake.
We’ve been to Santa Fe and Silver City, NM, now in Az over my objection. I got outvoted. I must make sure that we have our papers.
Sorry about AZ but hope you are going somewhere great like Canyon De Chelly or the Navajo National Monument. And can stop at Chaco on your way back.
My favorite from one of those collections of ingenious student exam reponses: Q: when did Columbus arrive in the Americas? A: before his luggage.
I’m feeling lazy this morning, but need to head over to the office for a while this morning. Then it’s home to get ready for the big birthday. 🙂
So how does it feel to the parent of an (almost) adult?
Well, if he were more mature, it might feel different than being the parent of a teenager… 🙂
Makes me feel a little old, though.
What are you folks up to this weekend?
Of course when you feel old looking at CBtE, you can just look at CBtB and instant youth! 😉
Probably going over to Cincy to see Jim’s mom on Sunday.
CBtB!!!
We’re off to Cincy to see Jim’s mom. Hope everyone has a fine Sunday.
And you as well! We’re off to a former neighbor’s retirement party.
Have a safe trip!
Have a safe trip!
We did. Thanks.
You can say that again;-)
Sedona earlier today. Yes, my papers are in order.
Love it. We haven’t been down there in several years. I need to see Oak Creek Canyon again.
I’ve made that beautiful drive through the canyon again today to exchange our rental car. The tires on ours were almost bald. Interestingly enough, the car we received is the same model and color as the one we had. No adjustment time required.
Great light and an interesting sky. Did it actually rain? Now that would be an event to remember. In all our trips out to the Colorado Plateau, we’ve been through one storm (and it only lasted about 20 minutes).
Thanks, it did actually rain a bit. You’re right, it never rains long here.
