Bad Choices in Arizona

Today is an election day in Arizona and several other states. John McCain is lucky to have a clown like J.D. Hayworth opposing him or he might actually be seeing his Senate career end today. Mark Halperin and Chris Matthews are at a loss to explain why McCain wants to continue his work in the Senate since he’s given up his last measure of integrity in his bid for reelection. I see their point. But the truth is that McCain is on target to win another six-year term, especially because his likely opponent in the fall is a disaster. If you are voting in the Democratic primary in Arizona today, do me a favor and vote for someone other than Rodney Glassman. I recommend Randy Parraz. At least he won’t embarrass us and we won’t have to apologize for his behavior. On many issues, such as national security, Parraz will offer a real contrast with McCain and the neo-conservative mentality.

There is really very little reason for the people of Arizona to reelect McCain. He’s flip-flopped on nearly every pressing issue facing the country. The Tea Parties should know better than to trust his sincerity, mainstream Republicans haven’t forgotten his apostasy, independents have lost their respect for him, and Democrats have never liked him. Plus, he’s no longer a deal-maker or particularly relevant, so what’s left for him to do in Congress?

But Glassman is not the candidate to challenge McCain. His staff is in full revolt and he appears to be unstable. That’s he a homophobe is another reason to oppose him.
