I’m sorry I haven’t been around the cafe lately. My job is totally stressing me out, and ironically, it’s the 2 people who I’ve worked with in the past that are making it so stressful. Huge difference between working with them as a consultant and as a fellow employee. TFSM I don’t report to them. Sorry to complain…
I did have some fun this weekend, playing with Finny, having dinner with a friend, and I even got some knitting and sewing done this weekend – I’ll have to take some pictures of my new bag and sweater-y stuff.
Sorry to hear about the job stress and not to worry, sounds like complaining is in order. Wonderful pic!
Hi, CG. As a friend reminded me this morning: this too shall pass.
Greeting to everyone from up on the hill. (Not The Hill, thank you very much.) Summer slowly winds to a close, the hummingbirds have left for the south & my day-to-day existence is packed so tight it squeaks. Hope everyone’s set for a beautiful day.
It’s good to see you, WW! I know this shall pass, but it seems to be taking a bit longer than I’d like.
Finny, on the other hand, is growing up way too quickly. 🙂
Looking forward to more pictures of the mighty Finn, CG.
Hope the rest of your week goes well — or quickly.
Hi, CG. As a friend reminded me this morning: this too shall pass.
Greeting to everyone from up on Red Hill.
Summer slowly winds to a close, the hummingbirds have left for the south & my day-to-day existence is packed so tight it squeaks. Hope everyone’s set for a beautiful day!
Please pick one & disregard the other.
😀
Of two minds you are today. 😉
& I seem to be losing both of ’em.
🙂
Sorry to hear you’re stressed out as well, b2. Thankfully, nothing lasts forever.
Hey, WW. I hope that full life is going to let you hang here a bit more often.
It’s Friday Foto Flogging this Friday. The theme is Tripping Out: pictures taken away from home.
Howdy, Andi! Wishing you both a good New Year!
As for the Flog, I’ll see what I can do — considering that I never leave the mountain.
😀
The pictures don’t have to be recent. Plus we aren’t sticklers for following the theme. Anything you want to post is very, very welcome.
Sorry to hear this. But it’s gotta get better. There are changes here at my job that are stressing me out. Just back from vacation too.
Seems like a very good time to start early and wish you a Shana Tova.
I’ll be thinking of you and CG when I did my apple into the honey tonight and hope you both get that full, sweet year going very, very soon.
Thanks! Happy new year to you and Jim!
Happy new year!
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year, b2!
Happy New Year
I’ll be wishing the same for you and Jim. Thanks, Andi.
Happy New Year to you and Jim – maybe pastrami at Shapiro’s after the honey and apples?
A little too far to go — even for pastrami that good.
And thanks for the New Year wishes. 🙂
I think it’s the difference between working from home and working in an office. You only ever get people in small doses so the things about them that might be irritating don’t seem as bad.
I hope it all gets better soon … but glad that Finn is such a lovely balm for it all.

Sky humps!
Do you suppose we could coax a little moisture out of those white fluffy things?
I’m hoping the dregs of Hermine will have something left for us.
how beautiful!
What a gorgeous sky!
I love it when the clouds look like they’ve been painted on the sky.
What a beautiful photo of early Autumn. Just lovely.
We’ve seen those skies here, too. Just lovely.
There will be lots more pics of our trip to The Daintree and The Great Barrier Reef. Plus, some underwater videos!
We got home late last night and are still recovering from all the exertion – walking, swimming, kayaking, etc. Plus, it’s a bit of a shock to the system to go from no nighties and just a sheet to flannel jammies and a quilt in less than 24 hours.
Oh boy, pictures.
Unfortunately, when it came to the birds, we heard lots, saw a fair few, photographed some, and got maybe a half dozen goods shots.
Two words. Rain. Forest.
I thought about you & Imogen the other day & wondered if you had experienced any earth-shaking at your place such as NZ got?
No we didn’t. The quake was pretty localized to the Christchurch area of the South Island of NZ. We were however kayaking with a few Kiwis, who were at least able to check in with a relative in the area.
Imogen and I spent several days in Christchurch a few years ago and really loved the city.
I’m sorry for the damage to NZ but glad you were spared any. Plus, now you can concentrate on getting those videos and photos ready for us to see. 🙂
Our two words for that are: Hawaii Effect
Except the only birds we saw out of the thousands we heard were one nene in a parking lot and some jungle fowl chicks that attached themselves to Jim at a hiking trailhead.
Weclome home!
Looking forward to those underwater videos, too.
We saw three turtles, all Green turtles (we think). The other possibility is that one was a Hawksbill turtle. They were very relaxed about being observed. Of course, few things eat turtles once they get this big, so they can afford the attitude.
What a wonderful picture! I love the expression on the turtle’s face, and the arrangement of the little blue fish. The there’s a striped type fish looks like one Knucklehead might have.
I’m sure he’ll know plenty of the fish. Although I have a video of one he probably won’t recognize from it’s meter long adult form (the young ones are very colorful and popular in the pet trade).
meter long?! hope it’s not too ominous- looking!!! are you posting a video clip somewhere?
Right now I’m test driving some video editing software with the intent to purchase a program with more adjustment options than come with Windows Movie Maker.
Any suggestions from anyone on budget-priced software would be appreciated.
I have no helpful suggestions, alas. hope someone else does.
So far I like Pinnacle Studio 14 the best of the budget priced software. I just put up a video in the foto flogging post that was made with that program.
I love these short weeks. I think I’ll have one next week, too.
You and me both. Let’s do it every week.
The ayes have it!
Olivia will be a long at reasonable time this morning to post the diary.
The theme is Tripping Out: photos taken away from home.
Of course, all photos are welcome wherever they are from.
Ooh, I have some for that…hoping I’ll have time to post them this morning!
Finny is up very very early today. And in a fine mood, too. Extra playtime with mom this morning. 🙂
I hope you do. I’d love to see ’em.
Morning Finny.
Ah, I just printed the vacation photos two days ago. I’ll have to post a few.
Looking forward to seeing something a little more scenic than that gas station. 😉
But just a little bit and not for very long according to the radar. It looks like we might get some more though. Never have I wanted to lose my satellite internet connection so much.
It poured here for a little while, now has let up a bit. Looks like more for later. Whee!
We got the second round here but I wish it had rained much, much longer. And the forecast shows this wasn’t the break in the drought I’d been hoping for.
We’re getting the beginning of the rain now. We need it, but Monday would really have been a better day to get it. 🙂
We went to yoga and my comapny picnic yesterday. The yoga totally kicked my butt, it was my first day back since Finn was born. And now I feel more like my relaxed old self.
Now to upload some pictures for olivia’s diary….
Can’t wait to see the pics.
We got none. Even the grass has stopped growing. At least I won’t have to mow this weekend.
We literally stopped mowing the grass by May this year.
I hadn’t realized you were having a drought too — or did you just stop mowing because it’s a PITA?
We’ve generally slipped into drought at least 7 of the 9 summers I’ve been here. I can’t remember the last substantial rain we had.
We’ve got wet and cold here, with dogs inside and currently wrestling on their beds. The end of Winter is proving to be especially woolly and a bit snowy.
P.s. today’s plan is to buy a chicken.
That chicken is beautiful. The black around the feathers – looks like a fancy dress … 🙂
We decided that if we are going to have chickens we may as well have pretty one. Not that we love our plain orange-brown hen, Ginger, any less.
Wise.
I’m looking forward to seeing keres-photographs of your beautiful chicken. 🙂
I’ll swap the for some Olivia generated flower photos. And on that note – I’m off to see the chickens, the wonderful chickens of OZ (‘tralia).
Deal.
Good luck!
that is one beautiful chicken!
She’s quite lovely!
Oh noz! My chicken supplier is moving out of state (and we didn’t hook up today). I sent him an email so there’s still a chance I’ll get a hen before he leaves.
oh-oh … don’t count your chicken before the supplier sells them to you.
very nice! and can we expect a photo of chicklets sometime?
And also don’t… enumerate your feathered progeny before the process of incubation has fully materialized and developed.

very lovely! nice way to start the day, thanks!
Love those rays.
Looks as if a bit of leaf color might be slipping in already. You can follow along with AndiF, JimF and I as we experience our spectacular fall display here in southern Indiana. Yes folks, unbelievable as it may seem, there is actually a local leaf-cam you can access.
I can also report that the persimmon crop is ready for harvest.
I doubt I’ve ever had persimmon. What’s it similar in taste and texture to?
They’re really, really tart without the addition of gobs of sugar and not fit for human consumption until mushy and nearly rotten. I just pick up the windfalls because I know they’re fully ripe. Have to race the deer to see who gets the crop each year. I always leave plenty for them, but they aren’t so courteous if they find them first.
Thanks,
“…racing deer…” ‘Reminds me I’d best go check the ripening process on what few apples I have in the orchard this year…
That was taken two weeks ago. A lot more — especially maples and smaller beeches — have started to turn. And there are a tremendous number of brown leaves on the ground. This is going to be an early and fast fall, I think.
I’m thinking I’d like to set up a lawn chair with a picnic basket next to it and spend the day at that location watching the shifting patterns of light and shadow.
You know, when I was a kid, a lot of the old timers around here did just that. I think they were on to something there. Sometime I’ll try to scare up a photo I have of some old guys sitting on the local “Liars Bench” that my grandfather took back in the 50s. A lot of sitting and staring at nothing in particular went on in that location for decades! Its a thoroughly worthwhile activity, IMHO.
“Its a thoroughly worthwhile activity, IMHO.”
Agreed!
And I’d love to have you there.
And while you’re sitting, Happi can run and play with Sniff and Bebo.
Still no word from my chook (Australianism for chicken) guy, and we’ve got snow forecast for tomorrow.
And it’s only Tuesday.
Snow! Wait, we’re heading toward colder, you’re supposed to be heading toward warmer.
Hope you get to count your chicken soon.
Climate change. What climate change?
We’re looking at the coldest September on record. At least it’s come with some rain, which we desperately needed. But it’s been a bit of a shock coming back from tropical north Queensland.
The dogs, of course, are blowing their coats.
Nice chicken. I had a couple of those…they are really pretty.
Snow? isn’t it supposed to be almost spring for you?
