Attending a RNC Cocktail party is more important to the Speaker of the House than flying with the President (who invited him) to go to AZ to attend the Tucson memorial service for the six slain people and the individual victims wounded by gunfire, including a member of the legislative body over which he presides:
The Ohio Republican is holding a 7 p.m. cocktail reception Wednesday night for 168 RNC members, who are in the Washington area for an annual meeting. The event is sponsored by Boehner’s political action committee and will take place at Maryland’s National Harbor resort.
The RNC party coincides with the 8 p.m. EST memorial ceremony at the University of Arizona in Tucson, where Obama will honor the victims of Saturday’s shooting rampage that left six dead and 14 wounded, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), who is in critical condition. […]
Boehner turned down a Tuesday invitation from Obama to fly to Tucson with him, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and other lawmakers for the Wednesday night memorial service.
Well, we all have our priorities. God forgive Speaker Boehner should have to change his plans because of some minor nuisance like a memorial service for the victims of the attempted assassination of a sitting Congresswoman, both those who were wounded but survived, and those who died, including a 9 year old little girl.
Martini anyone?
” and the shooter of a member of the legislative body over which he presides:”
BooMan,
You might rewrite the above quote from yourself.
I think it makes it seem like the “shooter” is being memorialized.
Yes I will. thanks
Steven D,
I`m sorry, I hadn`t yet read the byline.
This should have been addressed to you.
And it’s the one problem I have with things like tonight. The President will say we all need to work together, put differences aside and so forth. Yet no one at the service will point out Orange Julius’ absence. When said person is the leader of the legislative body of which Giffords serves. If that isn’t low class on the part of Orange Julius, I don’t know what is.
The memorial is not a political event. It is about those who were the victims of the shooting.
Boehner has made a huge mistake by not attending. Nothing needs to be said, his absence will be obvious.
These aholes get away with so much. This passage just screams, no shit?
Another Boehner aide emphasized that the RNC reception was scheduled before the memorial event was set.
What cr**p. Of course the RNC reception was scheduled before anyone knew of the need for a memorial.
Once again, its not the principle of the thing, its the money.
very well put!
The Orange Man is always focused on his priorities, excepting when he’s weeping ….
He weeps at the drop of a hat, but has no compassion for the families of those murdered & wounded, to attend a cocktail party.
an event where alcohol is served probably very high on his priorities list
The party has a 2 tear minimum.
hah! excellent!
Imagine how the shit would have hit the fan if Pelosi had blown off a request from Bush to attend a 9/11 memorial. Yet, nothing will be made of this. I mean, he’s a Republican which is a permanent license to be a scum bag.
I find it hard to be shocked by almost anything these days. Watching my state become “Red” in front of my eyes has had a dulling effect on my senses. I would hope the majority leader’s absence would be noticed, but I doubt it will raise much of a stir.
he is who you thought he was.
Orange Julius cannot be shocking you
