We’re going to have a difficult time with our Senate races on election night in 2012 even if Obama wins reelection in a massive blowout. One potential bright spot is in New Mexico. If it’s true that Rep. Martin Heinrich is running for Sen. Jeff Bingaman’s seat, it will be a campaign worth supporting enthusiastically. I like Sen. Bingaman a lot and I’m bummed that he’s retiring, but I think Heinrich will compile a more progressive voting record. I interviewed Heinrich back in 2007 as part of our Open Seat Initiative. His opponent even ran an attack ad against him citing our interview. On the other hand, Heinrich’s been a little timid in the House. I think he’s strayed to the middle too much. But he did get reelected in a bad year for Democrats, so maybe he knew what he was doing.
What Senate races are you watching?
I’m interested in Jim Webb’s seat, does Tim Kaine have a shot/want the seat?
It should be a competitive race and Kaine is a fairly strong candidate. Not that I am big fan, but he’d probably be as good as Webb.
Is Kaine going to get off the pot and announce? Or is he going to string people along for another 6 months?
here in California we appear to be stuck with the awful Dianne Feinstein for another term. I will probably be able to force myself to vote for her, but I’ll give serious thought to the Green candidate.
Then get ready for the new Republican senator from California.
Over and over and over. Punish the blue dogs for insufficient zeal. Stick it to that awful Diane Feinstein.
It’s like stupidity never can be treated. A vote for the Green is a vote for the Republican. In most cases, the republicans support the greens in the background.
