I am having trouble taking Newt Gingrich seriously enough to warrant detailing his many sins and episodes of craziness. It’s good that the New York Times took a shot at it. I liked this construction:
He refers to himself as a historian, but apparently his personal study of history has primarily taught him about the effectiveness of demagogy. Donald Trump, fiddling with birth certificates, is an amateur compared with Mr. Gingrich at sliming the Obama administration — as well as Democrats, Muslims, blacks and gay men and lesbians.
Newt Gingrich typically says three unhinged things before breakfast. If you believed he was serious about any of them, you would have to conclude that he’s every bit as insane as Reps. Steve King and Louie Gohmert. And I don’t know if Gingrich realizes this, but we have this thing called ‘digital recording’ that makes it really easy for us to package up his comments and observations and put them in little 30-second advertisements.
