I hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend as much as I am! It’s so nice to have a 4-day chunk of time to spend at home doing house and family stuff. Work has just been crazy for the last month, and now most of that stuff has been out to bed, so I can get back to a more normal routine. Just in time for summer Fridays to start.
What’s everyone up to today? I guess JimF is counting down the last couple of days…
Finny and I are off for a walk with Grammy in about a half-hour. Then it’s time to go grocery shopping and make pie and potato salad…
Morning CG! Have a good walk! We’re off to the flea market later on and some grocery shopping. And a bit of gardening. And…
Oh, I live those days where you do a little bit of everything – have fun!
I’m back from the walk (4 miles – yeah!), and now it’s time to get to work on a grocery list and pie.
Got the grocery shopping done yesterday and cooked dinner for Mrs. ID last night, but most of the day was spent on cleanup of tree parts from the storm last week. I’ll probably do some more of that today, but at a slower pace, as the hot & sticky weather has arrived. Got to work a nap in there somewhere too!
I’m trying to chill a bit before things pick up at work and I become virtually non-existent in the blogosphere.
Speaking of which, greetings all! internet access today!! potato salad – that will replace thinking about Cabin cakes for a while! actually back in mid June. Glad to catch up with you all today!
Good morning.
Busy weekend trying to get ‘swimmer’ on her way to Tanzania. She was supposed to leave only around June 12, but got a message last Thursday if she could make it by June 1st.
A bit of a scramble, luckily she got all her shots some weeks ago, but the about to expire bank card was more tricky. But, replacement card just arrived this morning as she had to get on the train to the airport.
Hi ask. Safe journey to swimmer. I hope the trip goes perfectly.
Wow, sounds like the new card arrived in the nick of time. I hope she has safe travels – what will she be doing there?
It was sent express and was supposed to arrive on Friday – but nothing then or on Saturday, a bit of worry then.
She will do a 2 month internship here.
That will be a great experience for her.
Definitely.
She was pretty revved up before leaving.
That looks like a great experience – you must be so proud of her!
Certainly!
Also because she was adamant that any internship should be with a not-for-profit organization.
Congratulations and Bon Voyage to swimmer! It will certainly be an interesting, and hopefully, rewarding experience.
looks like an interesting venture – expect she will love it.

Getting ready to head home for a great meetup with the old broads. Happy holiday to all.

Have fun with the “old broads”. We’re enjoying another lovely day at home today, with some more cooking out in the works…
Oops — that was supposed to be “heading home after“.
We had a great time. We enjoyed all the history in Charleston and the ocean and great seafood in Folly Beach.
Not looking forward to the long two-drive home but it was worth it.
You were in Charleston? I am SOOOO jealous, I’ve been wanting to got here for a long while. Maybe spring break next year…
Andi’s on the road so I, the two and a half days away from being retired geezer, will reply for her. She loved Charleston: the history, the food, the architecture, the food, the friends, the food.
She and one of her friends were headed back when one of the rear tires, only one year old, decided to fail. All is well; they’re back on the road. Home tomorrow.
Glad everything’s okay. Only two and a half more days…what WILL you do with all that free time? 😉
The big question is “what will I do with all that free husband?” 🙂
We ended up with a perfect arrangement at Charleston. We couldn’t find anything reasonably priced in the city and ended up renting a condo in Folly Beach — we would go into Charleston in the morning and do the history/tourist stuff for a few hours and then head back to Folly Beach for the ocean (and great seafood restaurants that were much cheaper than in the city) in the late afternoon when the crowds had thinned.
Oh, that sounds perfect! And how about the food? Where did you eat?
We only had lunches in Charleston but both were very good. We ate at the East Bay Deli near the harbor and Henry’s House in the Market area where I had a fried green tomato wrap and got to finish off someone else’s scrumptious mussels. Everybody else had shrimp tacos which they said where wonderful.
All the dinners were in Folly Beach and I had the best grouper I’ve ever had at Grill on the Edge, great scallops and peacake (a black eye pattie that was yummy) at Locklears (where you eat overlooking the ocean) and blue crabcakes at the Crab Shack (natch) to die for. Almost of the fish was local.
Hungry yet? 🙂
Sounds like a great time. Beats my excursion to Cape May a week ago, although we did have some good seafood.
Well I’m sorry to have “beat” you but then again I’m also glad — I prefer to have a great time when I go over 700 miles to get some place. 😉
Heh. I’m glad that you had a great time. I’ll have to get down there at some point.
All this talk of seafood makes me miss my old Florida days all the more!
Oh that looks very yummy.
Its also a major party;-)

Good morning!
Green and fresh image.
What a difference 36 hrs make. Monday pm we were in the high 80s – woke up this morning to mid-40s, breezy and rain showers. No complaints about the much needed rain, but the temperature and wind makes it fall-like outside…
OTOH – I just recalled, we are doing better than HD here since tomorrow is a public holiday (Ascension Day)…
Glad to hear you got that long looked for rain. And have a happy day off from work tomorrow.
T-storms/hail for later on. Hopefully I’ll be able to get out and walk between weather events. Anyone here going to NN?
Ugh. I’ve OD’d on that forecast. I hope it all passes you by.
(No on NN)
Hey, we were discussing NN here, but then thought that we’d rather plan a get-together with our BT friends that wasn’t necessarily NN-focused…are you going?
I am going. Are you guys going?
Time for a photo to go with all that talk my trip.

It looks like a nice spot to hang out ~ love the lighting.
If you’ve got a hankering to see Charleston, I really do recommend the combination of staying at Folly Beach and driving into Charleston. As long as you head to Charleston in the morning (after rush hour) and back to Folly Beach in the afternoon (well after the beach rush hour), the heavy traffic will be going the opposite way.
Blocked! Foiled again!
Just imagine yourself on a beach as the sun is just starting to set. Or maybe you shouldn’t try that while you’re at work since it might make it really hard to do any work.
Heh. I wasn’t concentrating very hard on anything here at work anyway. 😉
Apparently I was so distracted from concentrating, I forgot all about Saturday. But since Jim is all retired now and I’m all but retired, I guess every day is Saturday.
You & Jim are welcome to stop by anytime. If he gets to missing the chaos, you can visit when the grandkids are here:)
Think your grandkids would appreciate being sat down to do math drills? 🙂
Who wouldn’t?
Congrats to Jim! Now he can have slacking competitions with FM.
I doubt that will happen, b2. Too much effort.
🙂
Congratulations, Jim!
He’s in summer mode right now so that means being out on his bike everyday. I don’t think slacking (or that he is actually retired) will really occur to him until September.
Beautiful shot, Andi. Thank you.
I’ll bet the mountains are looking equally beautiful now. Friday Foto Flogging is this Friday and I’m sure we’d all be delighted to get to see how beautiful (the theme is “On the Road” but photos that aren’t even tenuously connected to the theme are always welcome).
Thanks for the reminder! Yes, the mountains are beautiful right now, especially after 2 months’ rain. Very lush, super-green. Magnificent flowers everywhere.
Nice shot. Nothing like hanging out along the coast.
It was really nice because we had ocean, rivers, and marshes all within less than a mile. Among other things, that made for bird watching paradise.
Hello! Just thought I’d fly through real quickly. I’ve posted some new content over at my home blog (NFU) and the one I serve as temporary primary caretaker (ECFS). Perhaps there’s something there of relevance.
I’ll have to check it out when I’m not blocked. 🙁
