Sometimes the hypocrisy is so thick that you can choke on it.
Obama has made some pretty “outrageous claims” on the Republican [budget] plan, Boehner said, lamenting the “demagoguery” in Washington. He disputed assertions that Republicans engaged in similar tactics during the last Congress when they criticized Obama’s healthcare reform bill.
“It’s got to start from the top … there’s a way of disagreeing without being disagreeable,” Boehner said.
Remember when Boehner took to the floor of the House and lied repeatedly about the Affordable Care Act?
If that is disagreeing without being disagreeable, then…
Can Democrats and Republicans agree to raise the debt limit and slash spending without raising any taxes?
No, we can’t.
Hypocrisy the Dem has gotten so old one would think that MSM would have finally caught up to recognize it for what it is…a tool to stop a conversation based on facts where the Rep can’t swim to the surface.
Whether it’s Weinergate or Obama’s birth certificate, neither is an excuse for talking about anything but working on good govt. Damn but it’s frustrating.
You’ve heard of IOKIYAR, right? And there is a reason why it’s called the corporate media.
What Calvin said. “Hypocrisy” is all fine and well in theory, but in practice, it’s meaningless, because the only audience that matters to these people is The Village, and who in The Village is going to call them on it?
It’s all theatre, and all in the moment; any flip-flopping or prior contrary claims or actions are meaningless, because they have discovered that they can say any damn thing they want, no matter how jaw-droppingly ridiculous, with no significant negative consequences. Sure, a few hippies who are paying attention will get their panties in a knot, but who cares about them? They were never going to vote for you anyway. The Republican base loves it, Village media are all about stenography and ass-kissing, and Democrats, starting with Obama, occasionally object, but not too strenuously for fear of scaring off the bipartisan unicorn.
The best part (from a Republican standpoint) is that any neutral observer, watching a dynamic in which nobody is ever held accountable for their misbehavior, problems don’t get solved, and in fact often get made worse by this idiotic behavior, might well come to the conclusion that government can’t work, does more harm than good, and we’d be better off without it. Which is exactly what they want people to conclude.
sigh, agreed 100%. Had such high hopes the first time I saw Olbermann break the mold and then Media Matters, FactCheck.org broke ground and literally did all the work for the MSM.
Now the only hope is Annonymous & Wikileaks
I gather from some ABC footage of the Rethugs coming out of the WH meeting yesterday that Obama may have essentially called them fucking terrorists to their faces but, ya’know, used better language. One Rethug described the meeting as “frosty” so I think we can take from that Obama was icy-cool while he verbally assaulted them. Another Rethug, who claimed to be a psychologist, said it had been a “venting session”. Then we’ve got Ryan and now Boehner claiming to be victims of “demagoguery” and “outrageous claims”. Ah-ha. Ah-ha-ha-ha!
It might hurt him politically but I might really enjoy a leak of whatever Obama actually said to them. Did he give them a variation of the Ned Beatty speech from the movie “Network”?
“You are meddling with the primal forces of nature, Mr. Boehner…We no longer live in a world of nations and ideologies, Mr. Ryan. The world is a college of corporations, inexorably determined by the immutable bylaws of business. If the debt ceiling isn’t raised, the US defaults on its debt, the value of the dollar falls and this country devolves into chaos, I’m going to become the dictator you say I am and line you both up against a wall and have you shot!” BWA-ha-ha-ha!
Along those lines, another possibility.
Here’s what I don’t get: where are the Republicans going with this?
No, I know they’re trying to walk back their vote to kill Medicare. I know they’re trying to spin the Paul Ryan plan into something it isn’t. But what do they hope to gain with all this whining about how Obama and the Democrats are being mean to them?
If there’s one thing Americans hate, it’s somebody whining and complaining that life isn’t fair to them. GOPers should know that better than anybody. So I just don’t understand why they think whining to Obama about “demagoguery” is going to accomplish anything other than make them look like bullies who just got their noses bloodied.
Read this over at Politico. Kinda wish this was on video.
I can actually hear Obama saying this in my head.
The “death-panel-supporting, socialist, may-not-have-been-born-here” president
