I’m really pretty frustrated with our political system which is making it hard for me to get fired up and ready to go for the campaign. But, you know, I’m a political junkie, and nothing is more fun for a political junkie than a presidential campaign. I think this one is going to be interesting. After the right gets done treating Mitt Romney like a pit bull’s dog toy, anything can happen. I don’t know if I can watch all the Republican debates though. How about you?

Republican debates with Ron Paul are always fun.
Remember when he asked John McCain about the Plunge Protection Team, and McCain didn’t know what he was talking about and starting yelling about how long he’d been a senator?
Paul: Senator McCain, what do you think about the Plunge Protection Team?
McCain: DO YOU KNOW WHO THE FUCK I AM?!?
LOL! That was priceless. Then again, the PPT is basically Brian Sack at the Federal Reserve. He’s in charge of open market operations. He’s the guy in charge of QEII(and possibly more).
I love the Republican debates. The first one was actually fairly easy to get through. I’ll be watching the second one from England.
Scratch that. I think I’ll be in Paris when the debate takes place.
Never has the word junkie been so apt.
Because showing enthusiasm for anything Republican, let alone month after month of debates and smear campaigns and their usual unhinged view of reality, is definitely a sign of a debilitating illness.
You have people who care about you. Don’t throw your life away. Rehab.
I learned a long time ago to eliminate all evil influences from my life. If a republican happens to be in a position of power, then I will have to pay attention to what s/he does. At this point I am not that interested in the contest.
There are more important things to focus on than who might triumph in a sideshow, unless that’s your job.
It’s hard to get excited when it doesn’t matter.
As Steven points out, we are increasing the rate of carbon going into the atmosphere and Obama is helping the process, despite all his tough talk about climate change.
Either way the earth is getting warmer and the US government is doing nothing to help and generally speeding the process up. The difference between the rate of change under Democrats and Republicans is like the difference between a 9.0 and 9.1 earthquake. Yes, the difference is real, but in either case the results are catastrophic.
That damn Obama. Next year we’re going to be forced to eat soylent green. Oh dear, where is his backbone? Why can’t he protect me from this tragedy? Where is the ghost of FDR/LBJ to protect me? Why must I be cursed to live in such a world? My goth/emo recordings will soothe my soul for the time being.
You know what Obama should do about global warming?
The Bully Pulpit. That’s right.
And also, too, trying to convince Republicans that he is right is stupid.
Democrats cannot depend on Republicans losing to create a political environment in which a re-elected President Obama can work. Democrats must play to win instead of playing not to lose. In that respect, Republicans are irrrelevant and voters are everything.
Via Sullivan, Howard Dean on Palin:
Excuse my language, but she can’t fucking win. She’s probably not going to run any way. Is Dean off his gourd? I gave him a lot of money too when he ran for President. At least for someone on a fixed income.
So did I, I still wish I lived in a world where he had become president.
I think he’s absolutely right. Voters are apathetic until the end, to the extent that campaigns matter, it’s at the margins. But Obama has to see her as someone who could beat him if she wins the GOP nom or he probably will lose.
She can win if the Democrats don’t show up.
I think that was Dean’s point – no matter how stacked the deck may be, you still need to run a good campaign to win a presidential election.
Obama is a black man with an African Muslim name. I don’t think he will ever take anything for granted when it comes to a still white majority country.
