I don’t think the key to Ben Nelson’s reelection is to assure that he is unloved by people of every political persuasion. Nebraska is a socially-conservative state. I get that. But that makes it all the more important that a Democrat appeal to people on kitchen table issues. It’s nice, if delusional, that he thinks we can cut the deficit without raising taxes or touching entitlements, but that would mean basically eliminating everything else, including the Defense Department. Sen. Nelson need look no further than Blanche Lincoln to see what the future holds in store for corporate Democrats in red states.
