I dropped the political nightmare for a day to go see Furthur tonight. They played well, but the stultifying heat left the crowd, including me, lacking in energy. Did I mention it was hot? I haven’t sweated so much in my entire life. Right now, I’m sitting on my patio in the middle of the woods on top of a hill and there is no wind, it’s still 82 degrees, and we have 78 percent humidity. I fear the weather may be like gas prices. We’ll never get back to the way it was. Philly concert venues need to start buying the kind of misting equipment they use in the South. We are not used to sub-tropical weather. The past two days have been the most oppressively hot days I have ever experienced, anywhere, including in Arizona and Death Valley, California. Regardless of what Rush Limbaugh says, the heat index is too damn hot.

Air Conditioning is your best friend.
Yes. It is a lifesaver.
Here, let yourself sink into this for a bit:
Think about hanging out with a good buddy in blissful coolth:
Ahhh… that’s much better.
Do you not have air conditioning at home?
Maybe you never really needed it before. But you might want to think about how to go about adding it. This may become the norm. Who knows? Weather here in Northern Nevada is actually a bit cooler than usual for this time of year, but we still need air conditioning most days during the summer.
Just make sure not to leave kids or pets in parked cars, even WITH the windows open. That’s illegal year-round here for a reason. It can be too hot or too cold, (depending on the season,) even with the window down. As a result, most businesses let you bring well-behaved pets and even some children in with you if they’re on a leash and can keep from getting into trouble. Otherwise you have to either leave them in the car with the engine and climate control running or tie them up out front in the shade. It would suck to be a kid tied up out front in the shade.

Meanwhile in NC, this is my tenth summer here and they have gotten progressively hotter and drier. Today will be the 6th straight day over 100 degrees with high humidity, but almost no rain in months except for a brief overnight shower. The temps have been staying above 80 all night long. Yuck.
How was the show? I saw Furthur last weekend at Festival in West Virginia. Good Times.
