I just read Erick Erickson’s latest comment on the ongoing debt ceiling debacle, serenely confident that would be the stupidest thing I read all day.

The CBC says that it will vote No on anything but a clean debt ceiling bill. And that means No on the Reid bill.
There are now 40 less folks that Pelosi can help Boehner out with. That leaves 127 Dems still in play. Boehner now needs approaching 76 Republicans to sign on. Maybe more. Hispanics and the rest of the progressive caucuses have not weighed in yet.
Good on the CBC. I hate to say it, but I STILL suspect that Boner’s bill will BARELY pass the House, but just barely, just by virtue of the fact that the WH, Pelosi, and Reid have all said that they hate it. To the petty brethren along with Cantor will vote for anything that will piss off Dems.
I also expect the MSM to report it as “Well, Boehner has done it, he’s held his caucus together, now it’s up to Dems to tank econmy”…forgetting about the fact that Boehner may be “mobile”, but he’s got a million knives in his back and is losing alot of blood.
I predict that 172 people will vote for it, all country club (are there any left in the GOP caucus) Republicans. That means it fails. I wonder how hard Cantor is really whipping the vote.
I can believe that Cantor is not doing the best whipping he has ever done in his life. I’m sure that he is measuring the drapes in the Speaker’s office as we speak, but can he really be that stupid and actually believe that this won’t just blow-up in the GOPs faces. I guess in Cantor twisted Machavellian little mind, it’s a risk he’s willing to take so he has a place to hang those drapes he measured!
This is beneath Frum and I really hope that he was being sarcastic.

The man is a canker sore on the body politic. He’s a scumbag and a fool. He dresses his language up pretty and has figured out how to talk the language of the center-left but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s a scumbag and a fool.
It’s tone-deaf on the part of his usual tactics, but it’s not “beneath” him by an stretch of the imagination. He just hides his obnoxiousness better these days than he used to and this is just the old asshole poking out in a moment of weakness.
Does anyone else remember when a picture came out in 1993 of Bill Clinton holding a big cup of root beer while reading something in the Oval Office, and the Village freaked the hell out? Apparently, having that root beer told us a great deal about Bill Clinton, and it was very, very bad.
