This is the finalized call to action of #OccupyWallStreet as posted at NYC General Assembly | The Official Website of the GA at #occupywallstreet.
Declaration of the Occupation of New York City
Posted on September 30, 2011 by NYCGAAs we gather together in solidarity to express a feeling of mass injustice, we must not lose sight of what brought us together. We write so that all people who feel wronged by the corporate forces of the world can know that we are your allies.
As one people, united, we acknowledge the reality: that the future of the human race requires the cooperation of its members; that our system must protect our rights, and upon corruption of that system, it is up to the individuals to protect their own rights, and those of their neighbors; that a democratic government derives its just power from the people, but corporations do not seek consent to extract wealth from the people and the Earth; and that no true democracy is attainable when the process is determined by economic power. We come to you at a time when corporations, which place profit over people, self-interest over justice, and oppression over equality, run our governments. We have peaceably assembled here, as is our right, to let these facts be known.
They have taken our houses through an illegal foreclosure process, despite not having the original mortgage.
They have taken bailouts from taxpayers with impunity, and continue to give Executives exorbitant bonuses.
They have perpetuated inequality and discrimination in the workplace based on age, the color of one’s skin, sex, gender identity and sexual orientation.
They have poisoned the food supply through negligence, and undermined the farming system through monopolization.
They have profited off of the torture, confinement, and cruel treatment of countless nonhuman animals, and actively hide these practices.
They have continuously sought to strip employees of the right to negotiate for better pay and safer working conditions.
They have held students hostage with tens of thousands of dollars of debt on education, which is itself a human right.
They have consistently outsourced labor and used that outsourcing as leverage to cut workers’ healthcare and pay.
They have influenced the courts to achieve the same rights as people, with none of the culpability or responsibility.
They have spent millions of dollars on legal teams that look for ways to get them out of contracts in regards to health insurance.
They have sold our privacy as a commodity.
They have used the military and police force to prevent freedom of the press. They have deliberately declined to recall faulty products endangering lives in pursuit of profit.
They determine economic policy, despite the catastrophic failures their policies have produced and continue to produce.
They have donated large sums of money to politicians supposed to be regulating them.
They continue to block alternate forms of energy to keep us dependent on oil.
They continue to block generic forms of medicine that could save people’s lives in order to protect investments that have already turned a substantive profit.
They have purposely covered up oil spills, accidents, faulty bookkeeping, and inactive ingredients in pursuit of profit.
They purposefully keep people misinformed and fearful through their control of the media.
They have accepted private contracts to murder prisoners even when presented with serious doubts about their guilt.
They have perpetuated colonialism at home and abroad.
They have participated in the torture and murder of innocent civilians overseas.
They continue to create weapons of mass destruction in order to receive government contracts. *
To the people of the world,
We, the New York City General Assembly occupying Wall Street in Liberty Square, urge you to assert your power.
Exercise your right to peaceably assemble; occupy public space; create a process to address the problems we face, and generate solutions accessible to everyone.

Join us and make your voices heard!
*These grievances are not all-inclusive.

Recommended and tweeted, for what I hope are very obvious reasons.

“We stressed something several times: this needs to remain non-violent. Remaining peaceful helps the overall image of this nationwide movement. If things do become violent, we acknowledge that staying calm only helps the cause. If we have arrests then we will have the footage immediately uploaded. It helps those in NYC by showing that the cops are abusing our rights, and that this thing is nothing like the misleading media says.”
If one thinks this is about “dirty fucking hippies” then it’s their loss. They are just part of the failed machine. The consumers of mass disinformation.

Did you click through to the pic. My comment was snark.
But in general the demographics of the Occupy movement are well beyond the corporate media stereotype. Just ask a NY Transit worker.
Oh yes I did. My comment was not directed at you but as to show my support for this incredible movement. I’m very “tired” of the “lefts” criticsm of Occupy Wall Street. Or anything that doesn’t conform exactly to their own message or ideas. We are not one. We are many.
I think we saw exactly who all were on the bridge yesterday. Us and our children. Our parents. Our grandparents.
.
"But I will not let myself be reduced to silence."
the whole world is watching – Chicago Transit Authority song.
Everyone but our “free press” that is. Most in the US don’t even know of any of the Occupy events.
Idiocracy at work.
I don’t understand the “lefts” criticism of this movemnt… I think the messaging is very clear. Corportae greed has destroyed the USA. Corporations control all. We are not in power at all. We are treated like cattled.
Which was very evident in the pathetic bridge arrests.
The message is clear but it is not the message that Democratic partisans and true believers want. Near as I can figure, unless the Occupy Wall Street protesters are carrying Obama 2012 signs and pledging their support to the Democratic Party (WITHOUT ANY TANGIBLE ASSURANCES FROM THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY THAT THE SORTS OF MASSIVE REFORMS TO THE ECONOMIC SYSTEM THAT NEED TO OCCUR ARE EVER ENACTED), the so-called “progressives” in many cases don’t seem to want to know. It’s motivated ignorance really among the more active and aware sorts of folks that would frequent the various and sundry websites for “leftish politics – whether that motivation is fear, cowardice, prejudice, greed or whatever I am uncertain for now.
I’ve never seen a happy, shiny protest where after a few hours our rights were restored and conditions were met.
Taking back what we’ve given up has always come with… discomfort.
These people are at least “walking their talk”. And it’s a voice of many so there’s several messages, but I still think the main message is crystal clear: Corporations are destroying the country/globe and that the elite corrupt are in power of all.
We’re all phucking peasants. They know it (the corrupt elite) and finally the dwindling middleclass American is realizing it.
It’s no longer about left right – red blue. IT’s about life or death. The right to “BE”.
I still can’t believe that most blogs are suggesting it’s just dirty hippies, the young crowd, the jobless… they are buying into the same BS from the media that sold us into illegal occupations.
I think the Occupiers are saying, “we are no longer OWNED”. America hasn’t been the “free and the brave” it’s been “slaves and cowards” Don’t believe me – look at the faces of those Free and Brave while they get their toothpast squeezed and their crotches scanned. Too afraid to even whistle the anthem while the Homeland Security does their thang.
(((Don Durito))))
The insidious nature of this 100-year-old social experiment called ‘mass media’ is clearer now than ever. It’s been so successful that even those who think they’re immune are not.
Good to see you, DJ.
Shhhh but don’t tell any of the “progressives” who are just waiting for things to magically restore and our rights to reappear – that I’m not even registered as a Dem. I’m an Indy.
Bleeding Heart Liberal. Why? Because I don’t stand by and twiddle my thumbs till the next election while I’m being backstabbed by the very people I voted for. I know that my citizenshipt doesnt begin and end in the election booth.
Pee on me once. Shame on you.
Pee down my throat and then tell me to support it all again in 2012?
There’s a name for that.

H/T to CNNi for its coverage …
