Today has been one of those days when blogging and parenthood have been incompatible. Oh well, it’s not like there are a ton of things I’m dying to write about. Herman Cain is a creep. Big deal. It’s not like he was going to be president anyway. Probably the most interesting thing going on is the acceptance of Palestine into UNESCO, which then triggered an automatic defunding of the cultural and educational arm of the United Nations by our enlightened Congress. But that’s a complex subject that requires a few minutes of uninterrupted thought to discuss intelligently.
One of the weird things about it is that Netanyahu’s government responded by announcing more building in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. The Israeli papers are reporting it as a direct tit-for-tat, as though the new settlements are being built strictly for purposes of revenge.
It’s worse than high school. It’s middle school.
I’ve been surprised that I haven’t found this story on the NYTimes front page (online). I only ran across it on al Jazeera, and that was days ago.
There’s almost a zeitgeist emerging of impatience with approaches that have been ineffective for years, which in my opinion would be a great development.
You’re surprised that the NYT and other US media are fronting for the Zionist cause? Surely you jest. Look who is the Jerusalem bureau chief of The New York Times: Ethan Bronner
I’m not surprised by the slant and omission of pertinent facts that seem common. But I am surprised that I couldn’t find an article that covered the event at all. And in the past couple of years, their coverage has seemed to be not as blatantly one-sided as it used to be.
I would really like to ask Netanyahu how Israel confiscating land is a tit for tat with Palestine asking for recognition. It just seems like spite to me.
By the way there is an excellent interview with Mosha Dayan by the lovely Rula Jebreal over at the daily beast.
Great article. The image of Dayan going to the West Bank alone shows just how different things could be under different leadership. Nothing about the current state of affairs is simply Israel reacting to the behavior of Palestinians.
Cain is not creepy….he is a clown.
Clowns are creepy
yeah, I thought everyone agreed about that.
If my middle schooler behaved like Netanyahu I’d take his playstation away.
