The conservative members of the Supreme Court should be forced to sit in a dark room and watch the entire Deadwood series until they internalize the meaning of especially vulnerable to “continued efforts of corporate control to the detriment of democracy and the republican form of government.” Yes, I know that the show took place in the Dakota Territories and not in Montana. But there’s no difference. Mineral extractors have been in control from the beginning.

TV holds very little appeal for me but I watched every episode of “Deadwood”. Al Swearengen was a complex and fascinating character.
Life according to Al:
When I heard that the first time I was sure he also meant “until then, there’s hope”.
Well, yes. And the last part, “Stand it like a man — and give some back.”
But Al is quite the philosopher:
The evolution of Swearengen’s character is interesting. In Season 1, he was the main evil character. By Season 2, he was a pillar of society, in his own way.
Also fascinating is that in my real job we are conducting a trial involving acute urinary retention, which Al was a sufferer from. When you cannot pee, you are in trouble, very quickly. Today, this is not a serious problem. But, in the past, at the time of Deadwood, it was in some cases a disease that was fatal. Men with bladder stones would often be killed by the treatment, since the stones had to be pulverized, and this sometimes led to medical errors like a punctured bladder.
Or perhaps Romney and the GOP caucus should be compelled to watch the movie “Matewan” about the struggle of workers against corporate interests in control of civil govt.
But I doubt it make a difference.

We just finished watching Season 2, and now we are onto Season 3. After we finish Band of Brothers, that is.
As new South Dakota residents, we are amazed by the series. How things have changed – NOT. Much of South Dakota is STILL Deadwood – Deadwood is in many ways Tea Party nirvana, where no one is in charge, everything is commoditized, and the chinese get rid of all the bodies. If you kill someone, you simply pay a fine, or not.
