With a new cafe to play in…I’m up early enjoying some quiet while the little man is asleep.
Good morning. Did you have the whole house to yourself because the not-so-little men were alseep too?
That I did. 🙂
I’m soaking up my home time this morning, I guess because I have to away overnight on Friday. I’m looking forward to a walk in the sun hike I’m gone, but not to leaving the little guy behind.
How are you this morning?
Where are you going to hike?
Probably more like a stroll, butl along the Hollywood Broadwalk in FL, if I can manage enough time between meeting responsibilities.
Oops, wrong computer…

Very nice!
Good morning,
sorry for not coming around lately. The old laptop finally gave up the spirit a few weeks ago after a long-term ‘illness’, and work has also been hectic.
But this morning, things are looking up. I’ve been busy the last couple of hours setting up and figuring out the new one 🙂
New laptop arrived at curly’s a few days ago and I came in from Geneva last night for an extended weekend.
What a nice way to pick up a new computer. I think I’m going to pick my next one up in Hawaii. 🙂
Hope you have a great visit.
Thanks Andi – you might have to somehow establish a ‘ship to’ address there. I say go for it.
Yay for long weekends and congrats on the new laptop! Maybe Andi can have her new one dropped off somewhere on Kailuana Place.
Hi ID,
Nice place! Yeah, I can imagine sitting under a huge umbrella setting up the new toy.
I wonder if one can be delivered to my vacant lot in Sedona. Perhaps they can leave it under the large juniper. 😉
This (see here for some specific locations) is where I want mine shipped to.
Believe it or not, I have been to the spot where the three top left images were taken (and several of the others). Honeymoon, almost 23 years ago…
I can certainly believe it — it’s a gorgeous place for a honeymoon. It’s also a really great place to hike (Jim and I think it deserves to be a national park).
Here’s Jim’s version of that shot. 🙂
That is a beautiful spot.
Beautiful, but rainy as well:
Spectacular!
Just echoing everyone else-nice way to pick up your laptop! Give my best to curly.
Will you be back in the states more permanently anytime soon?
Hi CG,
curly should be back from work shortly, I’ll show her your comment.
At the moment, it looks like my contract will be extended to the end of the year. And both kids will be in Europe next school year. swimmer is looking into various grad schools and young asklet will spend a year here before college.
Good morning,
Miserable weather. It’s pouring down outside. Good day to coop up inside since curly is working from home today.
Too bad about the weather but certainly great the curly gets to spend the day at home with you.
We’re having a 35 degree drop between yesterday’s high and today’s low (59 to 24). It’s 44 now and the forecast says there a chance of snow this morning so I guess we’re going to lose most of the degrees pretty soon.
Big change here as well – 58 yesterday and only 36 now, though forecast predicts high of 45 later today with rain throughout – definitely indoor day.
Rainy and 36 — that definitely sounds like a great morning to stay inside and snuggle.
Sorry everyone. Never went below 65 degrees overnight here. 🙂 We’re holding your spring weather hostage until the appropriate month.
<Psst! Hey! SN! If you could just keep my blueberry bushes a little warmer than last spring, it might be worth a batch of deep fried biscuits to you, hint, hint, wink, nudge.>
Given that we’re having a 33 degree rise from our low today (20) to tomorrow’s high (53), apparently February is the appropriate month.
Actually it’s not spring we’re having since we’ve had temps like these the whole time. This winter has been one very long November.
I need to pack and get out of here this morning, and, as ask noted, it’s a miserable rainy day…
I hope it’s somewhat sunny where I’m going.
Safe trip to sunnier destination!
My friend in NE FL commented yesterday that it was 82 there so I’d say chances are good.
Have a safe journey.
Have a good visit. Hope you can get in some relax time along with the work.
Snow overnight here! But it’s all melting now with temps above freezing. A reminder that winter is never too far away.
Ah, Florida. It is like summer here! And the swimming pools here are very cool too.
Too bad it looks like I won’t get much time on the beach in – we went to go take a walk on it after our work stuff was done, and it was all locked up. :/
And my day starts early tomorrow and then it’s back to the airport for me…I think BooMan and Finny are missing me though.
They’re locking up the beaches now? Guess I’m not sorry I moved back up north then.
Bummer on the beach walk and weird that it would be locked up.
Safe journey home.
Too bad re the beach, but just getting a couple of days away from the relative cold must feel good this time of year. I guess a late departure is out of the question with all the boys missing you.
Good morning,
OK – I did something yesterday that in retrospect seems highly irresponsible; signed up for a free trial month with Netflix streaming. Already have more that 200 hrs worth of movies and TV series in my queue!
curly and I really enjoyed 3 episodes of “Lilyhammer” – a Netflix exclusive (in the US) TV series – season 1 has 8 episodes. ‘Frankie the Fixer’ (Steven van Zandt) testifies against the mob and has to go into the witness protection program and ends up in wintery Lillehammer (site of the ’94 winter olympics). Complications ensue in the small town as Frankie (now by the name of Giovanni Henriksen) gets to know the locals and finds it hard to live a straight life.
You’ll have to give up some sleep time to watch all of those shows within the month. 😉
Interestingly enough, the b2 boy bought himself an xbox. He can watch netflix through the system. As if there aren’t enough distractions already.
It will come in handy for lonely nights in Geneva. I noticed that various game systems can put Netflix on your TV screen. I notice my new laptop has an HDMI port, which I guess can be hooked directly to the TV – will be tested this afternoon when a friend w/a spare cable will come by (they cost a fortune).
Is he becoming an addict? Young asklet used to spend way too much time with his PS3.
I haven’t dealt with Monoprice.com, but several of the tech podcasts I listen to think highly of them. Here’s a link to their hdmi cables.
http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10240
At their prices they look like they are worth a try.
Thanks Jim, those prices are really low.
We like our streaming Netflix. A lot of the BBC programming we enjoy is available there (mysteries and period pieces).
The volume of content seems to be vast – I hardly scratched the surface while browsing yesterday.
Downton Abbey is in my queue as I missed it here (curly is a big fan).
The term addict does not begin to describe things. If we didn’t redirect his attention, he would likely sit there 24/7.
We saw a discussion about lily hammer yesterday- looking forward to watching it on netflix!
No late departure for me, I’m looking forward to seeing my boys.
Have a good trip home!
Hope you had a good trip home.
Back home again…CBtE picked me up at the airport with his GF last night, and Finny slept through my arrival home. Now to get out for a run/walk in this chilly weather, so I can burn off the crap I ate while away… 🙂
BooMan now has a head cold. Poor guy.
The boys must be happy to have you back.
Poor Booman, hope he gets better soon. Those colds seem quite prevalent these days.
Went to pick up my 6 month old Mazda 3 yesterday at the dealer. Supposedly the battery had been changed. I asked the mgr what would happen if the no start/dead battery problem continued. He assured me that it wouldn’t. Went outside, the car wouldn’t start. The battery was dead, once again. Now I’ll have to get on the phone tomorrow and start yelling at the corporate folks. Sigh. The fun never ends here at Casa borna. Meanwhile trusty 10 year old MM carries me to work each day. Go figure.
How annoying! We’ve had very good luck with our Saturns. Too bad they don’t make them anymore:-(
I’ll be waiting to hear your story on CarTalk, next Saturday morning, 9 AM here, and again on Sunday noon.

Good morning,
I’d like some of that. Lot’s of errands this morning before heading to the airport in the pm.
Hope you had an easy and uneventful trip back.
Blocked! I’ll see it later. 🙁
That’s two bad — you could have had the image of two happy dogs to offset all that legal gloom and doom. 🙂
Happy dog pics, the antidote to legal monotony.
Another sunny day here at Chez Cabin. Finny has BooMan’s cold, and was up from 2:00 to 4:30 this morning watching Thomas and feeling stinky. Poor guy. I can’t believe he’s up again already.
I hope ask had an uneventful flight back, that AndiF and the dogs had a nice walk, and that everyone’s day is off to a good start!
Last weekend’s storm left about 6″ on the level at the farm, with a current snow depth that is more than at any time for this winter. Prior to this there was no snow out in the open areas away from the farmstead.
Now here’s the latest prediction;
Tuesday Night
Overcast with snow. Low of 25F with a windchill as low as 12F. Winds from the ENE at 15-20 mph with gusts to 35 mph. Chance of snow 100% with accumulations up to 9 in. possible.
Looks like there’ll finally be enough for some x-c skiing! Whoopppeee!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, that is amazing. Have fun skiing while it lasts! We’re enjoying early spring here, complete with crocuses blooming.
And just for contrast — our predicted today is 70. Weird, weird winter.
click for larger
Snowing here! But then it will be in the mid 50s by Saturday. Inconsistency is the word for the season.
Just returned from a jaunt to the local post office and its 70 and sunny here! I’m guessing AndiF’s nicely contrasted snow humps above aren’t contrasted anymore.
It was 70 (70!) here yesterday. I went for a walk in a short-sleeved t-shirt … in February. Very, very weird.
70 … 70!
We’ve been getting snow. :'(
Now I feel really guilty. But then again, I can never take a bird photo that is anything close to as wonder as that.
I LOVE the bottom photo – it would make an awesome holiday card.
Nice to see you popping into the cafe. How have you been?
Agreed about the holiday card! My mom would have loved it.
Thanks!
Doing okay other than sick of snow. 😀
I’m usually checking in every day!
Good morning,
Back two days already. Spring in the air.
Nights are still cool (mid-30s), but daytime in the low to mid-60s feels great.
Just back from my periodic colonoscopy. It’s always fun to start the day with hose in one’s butt. But everything is okay. The warnings they give you upon leaving include a directive to not operate heavy machinery and to not make any important decisions. I’ll try not to buy any cars and/or real estate today.
No joy riding on earthmovers for you today, b2!
I’m taking Mrs. ID over to the local hospital for an MRI in a couple of hours. She’s a bit claustrophobic and anxious about it. I told her to pretend she’s in the time tunnel enroute to a happier, more serene time zone. Don’t know when that would be, m’self, but it was the best I could come up with.
In other news, the crocus outside are in bloom. Last year they showed up on Mar. 12, in 2007, Mar. 22, just for historical perspective.
I hope that Mrs.ID is well! It’s certainly no fun staying still for so long. (Even for time travel.)
She’s decided to return to the here and now, at least for this ride.
Beautiful crocus!
I hope Mrs. ID’s MRI went well (and qucikly) and wasn’t anything too serious.
All over and much less scary than she anticipated. She seems to feel much better, now that we’re back home and anticipating a snack and movie.
Glad it all went well.
I was hoping to have some daffs to go with your pretty crocus but they aren’t showing any signs of being ready to open.
The hospital people helped a lot. Staff and techs were just great.
I’ve been seeing a lot of plump daffodil buds here and there, but none open yet.
70º … and crocus! So lovely. 😀
Glad to hear Mrs ID is back home and comfy now, and you too b2!
Thanks olivia! Hope spring arrives soon for you too.
Ouch – I am booking one of those just now.
Had a (minor) vasovagal incidence yesterday morning (recalling your diary entry on GOS last April).
Good thing my employer is hosted by the HQ of this organization. Checked by nurse and EKG within minutes. All is well.
Mrs. ID had similar episodes several years ago, which we were able to determine was a medication that was prescribed in too great a dose. It was an easy fix in her case. Glad to hear you’re ok.
I’m glad that you’re okay. Those incidents are scary.
Glad you’re doing OK.
So, Indiana peeps ~
Your state looks very colorful about now on the radar screen. Hope you’re all hunkered down…
The worst of us has been along the Ohio River this afternoon. I saw a tweet from Reuters a few minutes ago that 6 tornados were on the ground in Kentucky – spooky. Hope those folks are okay.
Our county’s current tornado watch expires at 9:00 p.m. Looks as if a smallish cell will be in the neighborhood in a few minutes, but nothing following it – yet.
Hey! Hope all you folks are OK.
All ok in our area. The nasty stuff was closer to Louisville by 30 or so miles. Speaking of which, I hope Oscar is ok.
Yes. Hope we hear from him.
Thanks for the report! Good news.
We’re all fine here. There were tornadoes in Indiana but they were all at least 50 miles south of us. Sadly there were several deaths.
Glad you are all okay! My ex was driving through Knoxville yesterday and saw one, but it dissipated (lucky for him).
The pictures from the towns in Indiana are heartbreaking.
Glad that you and ID are okay. I saw the footage of the devastation this morning. It all happened in a matter of seconds apparently.
I think that is what makes tornadoes so terrifying — they can appear in minutes and destroy in seconds.
My brother and sister-in-law decided to go canoeing & camping for their honeymoon and wound up weathering a night along Sugar Creek that featured a huge tornado and flash flooding. They were trapped along the creek by steep bluffs, but were able to ride the flood waters safely from their campsite to a landing spot. Memorable quote shouted to them by a resident atop the bluffs, “You’re fools!”
For icing on the honeymoon cake, his old truck’s driveshaft fell out on the ground and I had to travel over there to help him install a new universal joint. Their marriage, OTOH, has survived the years quite well:-)
What a story! Did they holler back an appropriate insult? Did they rechristen their canoe “ship of fools?”
Glad y’all were spared.
Ha! “Ship Of Fools” would be a great name! As I recall, they were too consumed by raw fear of overturning to come up with a snappy answer. The water rose so quickly, they weren’t able to gather all their camping gear and it was lost to the flood water. Truly a memorable honeymoon for them and all the family!
It’s beautiful here! Warm/sunny! Looks like it’s time for a new cafe.
Enjoy while it lasts! Its returned to chilly here today.
The NWS is predicting one of the heavier snowfalls of the winter tonight. We might get blanketed with up to 1/2″.
Ack! I need to rush to the grocery for bread and milk before they’re sold out. We could be isolated for days!
Hah! Make fun all you want but when you wake up, you will find that we were hit with a massive snowfall of about 1 inch!
I think you’re right….new cafe coming up soon.

Either that or nosing around the family tree.
Of finding some perspective about it.
Preparing to leave a “message” for the relatives?
A nice card would have been sufficient.

Good morning,
Your forest looks similar to ours. Another nice spring day here, though cool mornings at around 30.
Big disappointment upon return from NYC last week:
Sorry, Netflix is not available in your country… yet
(I had signed up for a 1-month free trial.)
And then the joys of learning about VPN. No. More. Geographic. Restrictions.
Also handy for BBC’s video library, where access to many programs is restricted depending on your location.
Good that you could find a VPN that works where you are! I was involved in setting one up for the county here a couple of years ago so that some of the workers and vendors could WFH. It took awhile, but finally got it working.
We warmed up 39 degrees yesterday (from 28 to 67) so we’re pretty springlike (except for the lack of green) here too.
Boo on Netflix!
Yum!
🙂
Nice lighting for the YAHD photo! Glad someone gets up early so I don’t have to;-)
Early? That was taken around 9 a.m. You town-folk sure are late-sleepers. 😉
Whatever Mrs. ID lets me get away with. I’m a confirmed night-owl;-)
Is that the slippery slope that I keep hearing about?
