I have the worst head-cold of my life. It’s almost a joke. Now I know what it’s like to be a mouth-breather. I did note that Kathleen Parker appeared on Meet the Press this morning and said (paraphrasing), “I think we are all unanimous that Mitt Romney is a dork. I think we have to think about about him as a doctor. He’s the doctor with a bad bedside-manner. But, in the end, do you care as long as he makes you better?”
Dukakis and Gore and Kerry had their problems “connecting” with the average voter, but they never reduced their advocates to calling them dorks or comparing them to crotchety doctors. I don’t know about you, but I do care if my doctor is a jerk. I’d gladly go see anyone who can clear the mucus out of my sinuses, but that doesn’t mean I’d go back to see them a second time. We have a dentist we stopped seeing because they always made us wait too long. They cleaned our teeth just fine, but they lost our business anyway.
I think most people are agreed that Romney needs to win Michigan or he’ll have a hard time winning the nomination outright. But the way he’s demoralizing the GOP faithful, I’m still not sure that he’s any better than Santorum. I’m vacillating about who I want to win. But I’m rooting for Santorum in Michigan because I want this thing to keep going. I want more money spent by Republicans to attack other Republicans. I want more discussion about how crappy the choices are. I want to see a brokered convention in Tampa, just for the pure entertainment value of it, even though it might allow them to find a competitive candidate.
I want to see a brokered convention in Tampa, just for the pure entertainment value of it, even though it might allow them to find a competitive candidate.
Do you think Mitch Daniels or Chris Christie is going to be the savior of a brokered convention? I don’t. Why would they want to step into that mess?
I don’t know what would happen in a brokered convention situation.
Chris Christie is on the record repeatedly saying he does not believe himself up to the job.
Mitch Daniels made a family decision. It sounded to me like his wife just said ‘no.’ But if people are going to hand him the nomination without him having to do any work, his wife might feel differently. A 60-day campaign is a lot more tolerable than a 700-day campaign.
It’s hard to think of anyone else who be nominated. Jeb Bush is waiting for 2016 and having polite visits with the president in the Oval Office.
Bobby Jindal is a possibility, although he’s too much like Kenneth on 30 Rock.
But it could be someone no one is thinking about.
I wanna see Romney eke out victories on Tuesday and take the wind out of the sails of any “brokered convention” talk. As unlikely as it is, I feel more confident with Obama running against one of these losers. Romney still will have a long difficult path ahead regardless of Tuesday’s outcomes.
Didn’t I read here sometime last year that Christie had to make an emergency visit to the hospital due to breathing difficulties? It’s occurring to me again that he may simply not be in physical shape to undertake something as grueling as a run for the presidency.
After Jindal’s SOTU response from whatever year that was, I’d place his chances somewhere near Rick Perry’s. The GOP seems to think so too, given the low profile they’ve kept him at since.
A few years ago, back before he got teabagged, I thought that Charlie Crist would make a good presidential candidate for the GOP. But I suppose that in a brokered convention situation he actually would stand a chance at the nomination: like Hunstman, he’d have no chance of winning it in the primary.
It comes down to who the delegates are. Are there a lot of teabagger infiltrators, or is it mostly an establishment crowd? If it’s the latter, then they could potentially sneak in any sane candidate they have to hand–I just can’t think of any atm.
I’d prefer Romney to win the nomination, because I worry Santorum would make America look bad in front of the world. Even if he loses (which I assume he would), we couldn’t just dismiss one of the two candidates for the Presidency as just another crank.
Assuming Santorum lost, though, it would be a much-needed wake up call for a lot of very apathetic people.
I don’t know. You might be right. But after Sarah Palin ran, it seemed to legitimize her and the extreme right wing of the party.
Try an antihistamine or zinc lozenges. During a cold take 1000mg vitamin C with some echinacea and zinc, every four waking hours.
And stay away from Ricky, he’s contagious and probably fatal.
Get well soon,
A self-medicating old wife
thanks. I’ve done most of that. I’ve never had a cold that was this aggressive about clogging my nose before.
I fought it off with vitamin c, a neti pot, and sudafed.
Yeah, some of us are a little weaker in the nose area. I tried Arthur’s gargle with cayenne – didn’t work. Now it’s antihistamines for me. Everything changes, and different strokes etc.
Welcome home, Cabin.
I had what you have for about two weeks it seemed. Like I’d try to go to bed and be unable to breathe, wake up and be able to kinda-sorta breathe and it felt like it was getting better, then I’d have a relapse. On-off like that for two weeks. Now I’m fine. Prolly the same thing. I blame it on working with children during the day without building up a “teacher” immune system.

I think it’s just adorable for a Roman Catholic to speak longingly for the religious conditions during this nation’s founding.
Try a SriLankan lamb curry. That stuff’ll clear out any sinus.
the only reason I want Little Ricky to win in Michigan, is because I wanna see Willard have to self-finance.
What do you think he did in ’08? And remember how soon he packed it in there?
this is his last shot, so he’s gonna stick in there.
remember, Willard believes that it’s his RIGHT to be President.
he won’t quit this time.
There’s more and more feedback coming in the polls showing R’s are no longer looking for anyone but Mitt, they’re finally disgusted at the whole pack and won’t even answer the question, who would you vote for? For a group that wanted anyone but Obama, then anyone but Mitt, there’s just no 3rd option.
Santorum, for good or bad, has forced the social card onto the table at a really early stage of the process. Whether that means he’ll fall off the cliff quickly and take the social agenda with him will weigh on whether the powers that be can recycle it to get voters into the booths next Nov or whether it will just fall flat as an enticement.
The stupid in the Republican party runs deep. Santorum aside, who told the leadership it would be a good idea to go after Obama on birth control? These guys could not be more narrow minded.
